Chereads / Mika [HIATUS] / Chapter 9 - Nine

Chapter 9 - Nine

"I think I just died," I muttered dejectedly, staring at the last page.

How could they do this? It's inhumane!

My head dropped to the desk loudly as I try to accept the death; but really, how? You can't kill him! He's the only one keeping the main character together! It's just cruel!

"Mika, do you wish to share something with the class?" I looked up to see Harrison looking at me with a raised eyebrow, the rest of the class – except Connor and Farida – just staring back at me. "They killed him off, it is inhumane." I ignored the strange looks from everyone as I made eye contact with the teacher, completely serious.

"Ignore him, he's upset about his manga," Zira decided to announce, making me glare at him. He wouldn't understand.

"Shut up, Zee! Just because you're an apathetic bitch doesn't mean I can't be upset about it!"

I was too worked up, and my magic was already haywire from the sugary energy drink, and I am working this all out too late. Fuck! My control slipped and suddenly objects started to float up and fly around the room.

People were only just deflecting them but I could feel my magic rising, the objects moving faster. I need to focus on my magic, not just let things go haywire! What the fuck am I just sitting here for?

Pressing my hands as hard as possible against the table in front of me, I closed my eyes and put all my effort into containing my magic, struggling too much for anything to be effective. A book whizzed past my ear, the commotion from everyone distracting me too much. Shit.

"Stop that!" Someone yelled, stressing me more out more. Before they were just shouting in shock but the words were starting to be directed at me. Not important, stop getting fucking distracted, dipshit! I should have just looked to see if there was a sugar free drink instead of picking up just any can. "I can't see!" A guy shouted, panicked.

"Everyone, stop using sight! Mika's aura is too strong at the moment!" Harrison yelled clearly above all the mess. He knew how to siphon my magic, why wasn't he helping me? "Should we make the room no-mag?" Zira asked but no one answered. I think I could only hear him because he was so close to me. At least he sounded calm.

I need to stop paying attention to everything! I should be trying to stop this, I am so much fucking better than this shit! But the usual method of visualising my magic level dropping slowly was doing shit. Come on, Mika, new ideas…

Oh, what if… nah, way too risky.

Fuck it! It's better than nothing.

Opening my eyes, I tried to use my magic instead of stop it. Everyone started to slowly lift out of their seats, powerless as they rose towards the ceiling. This isn't enough. Looking over the class, I settled for Calico Meters, he was so built that he was the least likely to get hurt. With more effort than I had ever put in before, I tried spinning him 360. "Don't pick on me! What'd I do to you?!" It was slow at first, but he eventually spun until he was back in the same position.

Yes! I didn't kill him!

Everyone and everything dropped suddenly, me getting glares from everyone, which I just blew off. They should be happy that no one burst into flames or anything. It was a bad habit of mine, even without losing control like that.

Harrison sighed, standing up and rubbing back through his suit. "Lexis was right, you really have gotten worse. It's been a month since an episode like that." His voice was a little bitter, like a mutter. Bitch should have siphoned if he didn't want to land on his ass.

Zira sat down and dropped his head back, sending me a lopsided, apologetic smile. I just smirked back and scoffed, showing him I was more than fine. Well I was exhausted but otherwise fine.

"What the hell is wrong with you? How could you lose control over a stupid picture book?" I recognised the voice as Calico. Wait, did he just call it a picture book? Like hell he can sound pissed after insulting me like that!

No, calm. I let out a long, controlled breath. Not making the same mistake twice.

"You nerds spend your free time studying and practicing magic you know, you wouldn't get it." It was true, Zira is by far the most normal of this lot and he doesn't get shit.

Harrison decided that was enough chaos for now. "Everyone, quieten down. We all knew it was a matter of time until this happened. In all honestly you need to get used to it because how you guys reacted was disappointing. There are Firsts who could stay calmer and come up with something useful. The same way Zireno did."

Zira almost immediately started saying he didn't do anything exceptional, me rolling my eyes. Why does he always put himself down? It makes people think he's humble but he is just insecure for some reason.

Slowly, everyone else started to sit down and I looked up at the chalkboard to see a few short sentences of Japanese, immediately confused. "Why the fuck does it say 'I'm an idiot' on the board?" I asked. Seriously, what is this lesson even?

"You're an idiot if you think that is what it says." I turn and made eye contact with Maria Silveno, the speak of the very rude comment, aka a total bitch. Also, it was a very wrong comment.

"It says, 'I am an idiot. Soba for life. Blossom is falling.'"

The bitch clearly didn't believe me, like most of the class. "Gilipolas," she muttered under her breath in Spanish, me glaring at the cocky bitch. Now hse was just asking for it.

"I'm not an idiot or an asshole so don't call me one. I may not do school and stuck up bitches but when someone who just lost control over manga told you what the Japanese said, you would be better off shutting your big mouth and listening. Bitch."

Before I could through a few insults in there, Harrison stopped everyone, looking at the board and sighing. "He isn't wrong. And while he is a fluent Japanese speaker, this class is meant to be full of the 9 cleverest minds of your generation of mages. Do you want to spend the next 3 years being corrected on your MFL by s guy who's failing high school? Especially on basic, simple sentences." The entire class bowed their heads, except the kid sat next to me – cocky bastard.

I looked around the room, noticing everything was back to normal. There wasn't even a sign that the room had been in a complete mess. When did that happen? Fucking mages.

"Well, seeing as for the first time all day, I have the attention of the two in the back row, I may as well talk about the trip," Harrison announced, apparently giving up on the lesson. "The no magic weekend trip has been made compulsory for the class, you will all be expected to attend." That doesn't sound right.

"Don't I already do that?"

"As I was about to say, excluding Mika seeing as it is a pointless exercise for him. However the Elder is extremely adamant on your presence."

That was the biggest pile of bullshit I had heard in a while. "Lexicon refuse to let me stay on my own?" I ask straight up. Harrison just sighed, nodding understandingly at my pissy behaviour. My face twisted into a grimace. "Stars, I could actually kill them."

"Mika, calm down." I clench my fists tightly under the desk and just sent Zira a flat look at his attempt. "I've told you already, those two would be dead without me looking after them. The two will be as good as dead by the time the weekend arrives."

"Don't plot innocent people's death, Mika!" The door opened as Con walked in, chiming at me. I just glared at her.

"Lexicon is not innocent in any form. How can you not trust someone who has been living alone for 3 years for a single weekend? It's you I would be worried about." Connifer just frowned, clearly understanding before I was not going; I would rather spend my weekend doing homework than go spend a weekend with this sorry lot of over-privileged mages. Apparently that wasn't going to stop Lexicon from trying though.

"Anyway," she said, dismissing the topic completely, "you guys can have a 10 minute break while I prep for Art." I looked at the clock, it was 11. It has only been 2 hours?

I am fucked, royally fucked.
