Chapter 1 - Prologue

Brandy was always a smart child, some would even call her brilliant. However she was a wallflower growing up, her large green eyes with two small orange freckles painted neatly next to her pupils were always watching, soaking everything in, knowledge, colors, light. Her light red hair would catch the eyes of strangers who would compliment her once in awhile in this little town of Hondo, but she was always reminded to be seen and not heard by her father, and it took it's toll on her social skills. She rarely replied, and if she did she would stare at the ground beneath her small feet and whisper her thanks with a voice that was slightly deep for a girl and quickly shuffle away. Her brother Jack however was her opposite, they were as close as twins could be but he was very outgoing, always talking, joking, and getting into trouble. They resembled each other greatly with the same eye and hair color and similar facial bone structure, though his jaw was sharper, and the dimple on Brandy's chin was deeper and her freckles much for pronounced as her brother tanned much more easily. He was already growing taller, at almost 15 he had a good 6 inches on her 5 foot 2 inch frame and she often wore his old clothes which didn't win her many friends in school. He was on the football team and the student council and she was in track and the crochet club due to their mother forcing them into after school activities so she could pick up extra shifts without needing to keep an eye on them, due to this Jack was burly with muscle and calculating in arguments for his age and Brandy was lean and nimble. He was popular and while he and her teachers all loved Brandy, she didn't have a real friend to speak of, and she was often lonely. But on their 15th birthday, everything changed. And it all started with a snooty girls wish to give her crush the perfect birthday.
