Chereads / Knox The Quiet Knight[Failed Project] / Chapter 6 - Slimes Part 1

Chapter 6 - Slimes Part 1

After loading in, Knox noticed she was still in the exact spot she stood before.

A message floated above her that announced that she was online.

"..."

'Welp there goes the plan to lay low' she thought to herself as she turned around to observe the area around her in more detail.

Small medieval style village huts lay in a little row in front of her.

Noticing that the players that she had met earlier were not coming up to swarm her just yet, she sighed with relief. She needed to find out how to control her character better and other in-game knowledge before confronting those people again.

Afterall, she was a football fanatic up until recently in real life. So she never cared for virtual reality and 'nerdy' stuff. But now things were different. She couldnt become a world famous football player if she couldnt even use her legs now could she? Ahaha....

"Man, this quest sucks. Why does this NPC say that slimes are the easiest and also the best to level up on? I've already died 4 times!

Lost two sets of armor,. countless..." A player about 20 feet away from Knox shouted out in frustration about his experience in the game thus far.

Swiveling her head to look at him, she was surprised that she... couldn't see him? No wait, she could only see a player name.

Oh wait, there was a tiny person hovering around belly button height on her about the size of a cellphone.

[Reginald Whoo]

What an odd name...

As if sensing someones gaze upon him after a minute or so of her staring, Reginald turned his head to shoot a glare towards Knox.

Knox, of course didnt like this. She couldn't help herself and shouted out.

"Excuse you, but what is there even to stare at? Hmm? Bobblehead boy..."

Swiftly running up to him, Reginald thought she was going to try and attack him.

'Hmph. this is a protected zone, they cant do anything to me.' Reginald said in his inner monologue inside his head.

Just before Knox was going to crash into him she pivoted slightly and on her right foot before doing a cartwheel around him and arriving in front of the NPC that was now behind him.

Shock coarsed through his body. What the heck? Weren't they futilely attempting to attack me? He thought to himself as he also turned towards the NPC behind him, and subsequently towards Knox aswell.

Ignoring the ' almost invisible' player, Knox initiated contact with the NPC after a moment of trying to figure out how to activate the NPC's interactive dialogue.

Dunkirk the Informed spoke to Knox.

Dunkik: "Hello adventurer, if you looking for information I'm the man who can help you out ."

The NPC Dunkirk the wise had spikey dark brown hair and small elf ears. Slight wrinkle lines appeared on his mildly handsome face.

Garbed in a traditional villagers outfit he had dark brown leather boots with tan colored pants and a green tunic that went down to the middle pf his thighs that looked quite faded from consecutive washings.

Knox: Do you know if I can change my class?

"Oh, so this young one is adept in the mind magic field, very well. So you wish to change your class huh?

Let me take a closer look at you here."

Dunkirk leaned in closer towards Knox and took a triangle shaped magnify glass out of his tan trousers back pocket before putting it up to his right eye.

[NPC Dunkirk the Informed is examining you, your level is to low to resist.]

This message popped up in front of Knox and she was slightly alarmed but decided she had asked for this to happen so why should she panic?

Dunkirk the Informativive looked at Knox for about 30 seconds before exclaiming in shock.

"Young adventurer you are blessed with a rare class and even rarer race."

Reginald wasnt able to see to hear this dialogue line but he saw the shock and appreciation appear on the bothersome NPCs face.

Why does this stinky NPC look so shocked? Hmm?

Knox calmly waited for Dunkirk to recover from his sudden stupor.

Dunkirk quickly collected himself and tried to explain to Knox why she should keep her current class.

"You know young one. If you keep your class as it is, and if you work diligently and hard enough, I, Dunkirk the Informative believe wholeheartedly that you will be a monsterously strong adventuruer. "

Hearing these words from the brown haired Dunkirk, she couldnt help but try to think it over.

She knew she needed to think things through more since she tended to be overly excitable.

Well, atleast she was in the past anyway...

Deciding to probe for more info, Knox asked a few more questions of Dunkirk.

Knox: How does my class work?

"Your class is very bad at the beginning but the more you level up and acquire stronger skills the more powerful you'll become.

Depending on what you want to summon, it might not be so difficult for you at the beginning if you party up with others."

Thinking about it for a little Knox asked him to elaborate further.

"Your race is also to your advantage, you see, Angel's can be considered a Holy Race and because of this can have attacks or abilities that roll a higher chance of having a miracle happen. In other words, you can say that your race has abnormally high stats in the luck department compared to other races at the beginning."

Knox: Pardon me, but if luck is a stat what else is?

Dunkirk looked flabbergasted before he let out a sigh as if defeated before rummaging around in his pocket and retrieving a small pack of scrolls tightly bound together with golden colored twine.

"Here take this, it will save some poor soul alot of heartache and words in the future when talking to you."

[NPC Dunkirk has given you an item. You were unable to decline this transaction.]

[Item Obtained, Starter-up Scrollpack.]

Knox pulled up her inventory, and then clicked the scroll pack. She knew how to do at least this much in-game.

[Open Item: Startup Scrollpack?]

[Yes] or [No]

Knox proceeded to select yes feeling abit curious as to the contents of this item.
