Chapter 2 - A Black Cat

The alarm clock ringed incessantly.

My eyes woke up blearily to see a worn out ceiling. I tapped the alarm and the room regained its peace.

I came out of the old bed and approached the windows. As I shoved the curtains to the edges, however, only a dim light seeped through. A wall of a building came into my sight, fully blocking the view.

My expression didnt change as I was already numb to it. I could remember when I was a kid, I always turned up into this window to feast my eyes in the grandiose of the city. Especially when night came as there would be vibrant of colors glowing from it.

However, it was wholly different right now. A shadow was casted instead.

I just moved the curtains to at least lit the interior well enough for me to see everything. It was because I was indebted and lacked money to pay the electricity bill.

I had only myself, as my parents died by accident. My grandparents had already left by long age and my relatives could only send me money.

Even it was a bit, luckily I am already big enough to work. My body was greatly tired from working part time jobs yesterday that I had only slept for two hours.

Languidly attending myself, I took a bath. The water was somewhat dirty. Sometimes I thought I would be sick someday, along with shortage of sleep.

After eating noodles that I boiled, wearing my uniform, and a necessary cleaning; I finally went out to take a long route towards the school with my black briefcase.

It had always been this everyday. It had been a dull life and nothing had ever changed.

As I walked downwards from the residential mountain I lived, it took me a hour to cover a halfway distance to the school.

I only needed to walk as I could not also handle transportation fees. My life had been not an easy one.

Wafts of pollution started to slip through my nostrils and the noises came increasing. Finally, the hubbub was clear and the calm became bustling.

Walking through the main road, a black cat caught my attention. I only managed to catch a glimpse as it entered an alleyway.

Subconciously, I followed it. Even I was baffled by the reason I acted. Curiosity, Interest — I dont know.

As expected, there were many kinds of trashes in there: newspaper, cans, plastics, trash bags. Three types of different colored trashcans situated in the corner where it was jammed full.

As I stepped in the scabrous ground, the cat stopped with its behind facing me. I conceived that it was probably waiting for me— that thought flashed in my head. Its weird but my «intuition» betrayed my rationality. It held a great sway in my state of mind.

I could also feel my loud beatings of my heart. It was as if I'm really eager of something. It was evidenced by my hands that were twitching restlessly.

As if it sensed that I arrived, the cat suddenly leapt to another corner way. This left me in struck.

There was no other way into this alley. It was only straight and a wall ending it. I knew it because I had always properly thrown any trash I saw in the street here.

Although it was eerily strange, my legs unhesitatingly pursued it. When I arrived at the corner way, again, the cat was waiting. After that, it again went into another way.

It still managed to surprise me but after it was constantly repeated, I was finally numbed to it. I blindly followed it for whatever reason that I personally didnt know entirely.

To think I was a fool that I even had to trap myself in this situation. I looked behind and what I saw was a wall, blocking my return.

"I cant go back." I muttered inconceivably. My eyes were wide in great shock.

My body stiffened and my legs were rooted into the ground. My right hand touched the wall beside as I uncontrollably walked my steps back.

I bumped something tough in my back and it seemed it was the end wall. But because of that, I could sense a little presence in my west, staring at me like a demon. The powerful presence it brought to me, came from a little body.

The black cat!

My body shivered as goosebumps assailed me. My head was as if became iced, I could not turn my head to face it. Horror was birthed by my heart. Unknowingly, my body involuntarily shook from fear.

Do I need to face it?! But what if that would be the last moment of my life?

However, I managed to find a thought in my mind that eclipsed my body in calming warm.

Yes, it had made a big effort to lead me here so it had a purpose for me that I can help.

Even though it managed to awake its presence by coming here and maybe it finally had a chance to harm me...

Whatever it was, I need to take a gamble to grasp that hope. I was already stuck in here!

I made a lot deal of effort to move my head, bit by bit. Every second was torturing me. My heart's beats were escalating. My breaths became ragged as I was absorbing breaths in an increasing speed.

Until finally for was like an eternity, I finally laid my eyes to the uncanny being.

What beheld me were two pearly eyes that pierced my soul. The shock I had was enormous.

I finally knew what deeply attracted me that my craving seemed unstoppable.

It was not its black furs that shrouded its petite figure. It was not its little paws nor its long whiskers. It was not anything of a normal cat.

—Its the «galaxy» that resided in its eyes. The vast expanse and its majesty brought a weight of a mountain that shook my entire core.

I could no longer see anything aside from it. The terror within me vanished in an instant.

I could only say—

Have you ever seen something so beautiful?
