An island exist with races and classes of people. At one point the island was at peace and in harmony, people claimed there was a balance. Today, the island is occupied partial by a tyrannical and evil emperor. His reign has lasted three centuries over people and nobody sees an end in sight.
The empire runs well from slave labor from the Kaians, who is a race of people with simple minds. Yet, all Kaians are immensely strong. Kaians are ruled by Queen Rousha who oversees everyday affairs of her people. Queen Rousha is known for outbursts and bad temperament, but the Kaian territory presses on despite her incompetence.
After all, an empire needs a slave force for resources such as weapons and material harvesting. Kaians are seen as nothing more than odd looking creatures, not people. Ghostly white skin, frail and tattered blond hair, and a small frame might not look like much, but Kaians produce more than races twice or three times their size. Interestingly enough, they are useful because their ability to handle back breaking labor while smiling. Overall, their strength and docile demeanor is highly sought after. Oddly, Kaians can make exact replicas of themselves. The copies have no name and share the same qualities of the original Kaian. The copies have the signature Kaian appearance of blue eyes, blond hair, and a small frame. Docility defines their race, but the replicas are even more docile. The empire has good furniture in Kaians, meaning furniture is something which is to be used and manipulated.
The Kaian people are slave force for the empire and imperial forces. A Kaian person can make an exact copy of themselves, so in sense when an owner purchases a Kaian they are getting two slaves for the price of one. What more could one ask for when wanting to exploit a people?
Queen Rousha awakens on a typical morning in her palace. One could argue it is a palace in name only. It takes one with a vast imagination to see the palace as a fitting place for a queen to reside. The palace rooms are vast, yet terribly dusty and drafty. The Queen sees her position as a high one, for she sets policy for the lands of the Kaians. However, an imperial adviser is always present as she sets a policy. The adviser can overrule her decisions at anytime, since the adviser really is a mouth piece of the empire. Queen Rousha doesn't need much minding from the adviser because she knows how to toe the line. Her policy always is inline with imperial will, and her policy always is to make her life easier. The emperor's policies towards the Kaians is to keep them working so that the machines of the Yagers can be fueled and materials can be mined for weapons. Queen Rousha is sure that any uprisings or hints of uprisings are reported to Yagers stationed throughout the Kaian lands.
Queen Rousha muses over her position, her palace, and her place in the order of things. The Kaian monarchy isn't like most kingdoms, because the monarch is chosen by the emperor. She is highly replaceable at anytime. Rousha recalls receiving her title and position when the last monarch failed to enforce the most basic imperial laws and to reduce the black-market trades. It's legal to buy and sell Kaians, but imperial forces frown upon Kaians themselves profiting. She received her promotion to Queen and her excitement was endless. Once she was granted the perceived privilege of unlimited wants filled and a dusty palace to reside in, Queen Rousha made it to the top position a Kaian will have. More exact, Queen Rousha realized she made it to the top position a Kaian will ever be allowed to have.
As Queen Rousha reads over a report about growing prostitution within Kaian capital, She over looks the slums of her capital city in her kingdom. "Fools toil for me", she lets out a slight laugh as she eats a berry, "they are only useful so I can maintain order." She can see Kaian overseers in the distance leading children to slave blocks with foreign on lookers bidding on the best looking Kaian slave workers. Most of the people purchasing the Kaians are the Yegars. The Yegars need miners to extract coal and precious material for their mechanized parts of their forces. Also, the emperor often requests a set number of slaves to be added to his workforce in the Imperial territory. It's Rousha job to ensure everything runs well enough to keep the emperor and Yegars happy.
Queen Rousha's thoughts are suddenly interrupted by a servant as he hands her a report. She reads the report as she devours berries. "I wonder why the emperor is cutting my allotment of berries, doesn't he know I live and work for these." As she cackled she swallowed a berry incorrectly. Rousha grasps her throat and her pale skin turns red suddenly. Gasping for air a thump suddenly fills the room.
Dust settles about Rousha's room and a naked figure emerges slowly from the ground.
An unknown person says, "Who are you? Where am I? Mutters a voice familiar to Queen Rousha. Why am I covered in goo?"
Why am I staring at a ... a... copy of myself. Horrified the queen realizes she did the unthinkable. She made a replica of herself. This must of happened as she choked on the berries and receiving the bad news of a reduced ration.
Queen Rousha shouts, "This is for commoners! For the filthy Kaians! I am a Queen for god's sake!"
Rousha's copy stares at her and the Queen stares back and then responds saying, "What is a commoner or a Queen?"
Queen Rousha had never produced a replica, for someone of her station should never do so. The queen thinks to herself about how this copy is bad for several reasons. Making copies is seen as an activity for the regular Kaians, and this copy could speak. A speaking copy is unheard of and there is an imperial order to report unusual Kaian activity such as a speaking copy. Mostly copies are docile, do as they are told, and never speak.
Suddenly, shirking is heard through the corridors of the Kaian castle. Queen Rousha is having one of her nervous fits. Usually these fits are over not getting an indulgence no other Kaian will ever get. As Rousha shirks loudly, the mysterious replica of the queen dashes quickly through a open window into a pile of rocks and dust.
