Wu Haotian was extremely focused at the moment, his fingers moving at an inhuman speed as he desperately mashed at the buttons of the controller in his hands.
He was seated at the edge of his bed, wearing a pair of glasses that directly fed the game image to his eyes; anyone else would not be able to tell what he was doing if not for the game controller in his hands.
"Hahaha! Stop struggling! You are bound to lose!" the voice of his opponent came in through the communicator in his ears.
"Shut up! I will definitely beat you this time!" Wu Haotian gritted his teeth in anger.
His character's health bar was already at critical level, but his opponent was not doing any better. It was the deciding last moments of the match!
Just then, a flashing icon at the bottom of his lens drew his attention away for a moment.
It was a message that was sent with high priority, yes, but nothing that could not wait a few seconds!
Wu Haotian forced himself to ignore the icon and turn his attention back to the game.
However, within this split second of decision making, his opponent had struck the winning blow!
"KO! You lose!"
"What the fuck! You bastard! Did you abuse the Guild line just for the win, you dirty cheater?!" Wu Haotian threw his head back in rage.
"Hahaha! Stop whining! What Guild line? I don't know what you are talking about! Just accept your loss like a man!" his opponent gloated.
"If not for the message distracting me, I would have definitely beaten you!"
Even as Wu Haotian complained, he did not delay opening the message.
"Oh? It really isn't sent by you?" Wu Haotian exclaimed in surprise.
"Of course not, I am not as dirty as you! But I got the message too. It was sent by the Guild, though that did not stop me from winning."
"Shut up! Next time I will definitely win!" Wu Haotian was still spiteful about the loss even as he opened the message. "An Emergency Hunt Operation eh? Are you accepting this job?"
"Yeah, I am. Beating you all day is getting kind of boring after all."
"Fuck you! Let's see who beats who when we see each other at the Guild later!" Wu Haotian could not stop himself from cursing once again.
"Hahaha! Sore loser!"
After Wu Haotian cut off the call, he put on a comfortable sweater before walking out to the living room.
His apartment was huge and minimalistic with barely any furniture. The full length windows in the living room revealed a great view of the bustling city below, acting as its own form of decoration.
Wu Haotian walked barefooted to a corner of the living room, where a large sophisticated machine was placed, completely not blending into the theme of the apartment.
He stepped into the chamber of the machine and the door closed behind him.
"Final Whisper Guild Room," Wu Haotian said matter-of-factly.
After a moment of silence, a mechanical voice answered him.
"Identity confirmed as Owner Wu Haotian. Destination received. Commencing teleportation."
Knowing full well what was coming next, Wu Haotian closed his eyes in preparation.
A bright light flashed within the narrow chamber, and as it subsided, Wu Haotian had completely vanished into thin air.
---
Another hour has passed since the wyvern started napping, and Yan Bingru was starting to get impatient.
Why were her teammates such cowards?
They had already been sitting there for an hour, simply watching the wyvern nap without daring to move an inch from their spots.
No, if you include the time that the wyvern spent eating, it had already been almost two hours!
Even if they were afraid, surely the fear must have subsided a little after such a long time?!
And as long as the two men remained seated there like dolls, it was her job as a sniper to cover them with her rifle.
Indeed, it really sucked to have shitty teammates.
No wonder they were still considered Low-tier Hunters!
Did they not know that as long as they remain in the vicinity, it was equivalent to waiting for the god of death to descend?
Once the wyvern woke up, who knew if it would get hungry again?
Just as she was thinking that, Yan Bingru saw the wyvern's eyelids tremble slightly.
Shit, did she just jinx it again?
This cursed brain of hers!
And then it really happened.
The wyvern's eyes opened completely and it raised its head up high, looking towards the sky as it roared in rage once more.
Learning from the previous instance, Yan Bingru was quick to react this time, and hurriedly looked up to see a small shuttle approaching.
That must be their ticket out of here!
The wyvern had already considered the skies as its territory, not allowing any trespassers whatsoever.
As before, a bright golden light started gathering within its open jaws as it prepared to fire off another breath attack.
As if I would let you do that again!
Yan Bingru's actions were smooth and fast.
Even before a split second had passed, her eyes had returned to the rifle scope and her finger decisively pulled the trigger.
Despite her hurried actions, Yan Bingru did not miss.
The bullet cut through the air, landing right on target as always, striking the underneath of the wyvern's neck where it seemed the most vulnerable!
On top of that, she had aimed for the joint between the neck and the head, so as to deal the greatest damage possible!
By doing this, Yan Bingru risked drawing the wyvern's attention to herself, but that would still be better than letting it do as it pleased.
"Eh?" Yan Bingru could not help but exclaim out loud as she saw what happened next.
The wyvern had completely ignored her shot.
Heavens! What kind of protective scales are those?!
Her rifle was actually too low-grade to even hurt the wyvern!
It was a sniper rifle! How could it not even have left a scratch on it?!
Did she need a nuke to damage the wyvern or something?
Yan Bingru's shoulders slackened in despair as she realised the futility of her actions for the past hour.
She thought that she had been covering her teammates, but that was just her being in her own world.
Now, Yan Bingru could only watch helplessly as a bright ray of golden light fired out from the wyvern's opened jaws, heading straight towards the approaching shuttle.
Just as she thought that this shuttle was done for, the ray of light suddenly split into two and dissipated harmlessly, as if it was cut open right through the middle.
Unable to believe her eyes, Yan Bingru could only blink in astonishment before she finally noticed a figure in the air, standing between the wyvern and the shuttle.
At such a far distance, the figure had appeared so small and minute as compared to the huge burst of light that she was only able to see him because of her keen sniper eyes.
But when Yan Bingru finally managed to make out the features on the unknown person, excitement swept over her as she instantly realised who it was!
It was a figure that she had seen on television and online videos so many times that there was no way she would fail to recognise him.
What's more, in his hands was his signature long sword that was completely sky blue in colour – the Sky Reaper.
With that, Yan Bingru knew that there was no mistake!
He was the man known as the number one Hunter, Sky Emperor Wu Haotian!
In an age where advanced weaponry was all the rage, he had single-handedly balanced the trend by displaying the power of a traditional weapon – the sword.
Since then, many Hunters have reverted back to using the traditional sword, all in hopes of reaching his level.
Of course, no one ever did.
Since his emergence, Wu Haotian had always remained as the mountain that could never be toppled, standing firmly at the top spot in the Hunter world!
Such a person was actually part of their rescue party?
What more was there to worry about then?
Enraged by how its breath attack was completely neutralised by the other party, the wyvern rose to its feet at long last.
With a mighty flap of its huge wings, the wyvern created a gust of wind that even caused the trees to bend slightly from the pressure.
It took off straight towards Wu Haotian, firing off another breath attack even before they met!
Wu Haotian was fully focused as he raised the Sky Reaper up high before slashing down in one swift motion.
It was as if the sword had magically extended itself.
Even though the Sky Reaper did not come into direct contact with the breath attack, it was still as though the ray of light have been cut into two as it dissipated just like before.
At this moment, a laser beam fired out from above the shuttle and directly struck the wyvern on its left wing.
Unlike Yan Bingru's shot, the beam caused a small explosion that knocked the wyvern back a little, completely halting its advance.
Wu Haotian did not hesitate and flew straight towards the wyvern like a shooting star.
He weaved agilely to evade the wyvern's gigantic jaws aiming to clamp down on him, and pierced the Sky Reaper right into the underneath of the wyvern's neck.
Yan Bingru had tried to attack the exact same spot earlier, only to fail miserably due to the wyvern's tough exterior.
On the other hand, Wu Haotian's Sky Reaper cut through the wyvern's protective scales like a hot knife through butter!
That was not the end of it.
Wu Haotian left the sword embedded within the wyvern's flesh and dragged the sword all the way down as he flew towards the wyvern's tail, creating a wound that stretched from its neck to its tail in a single slash!
