Chapter 1 - The Giants Walk the Earth

Listening to the thunderous footsteps move past his hiding spot, the barbarian held his breath and dared not to move. He needed to go unnoticed this time. His goal was more important than tangling with the monstrosity passing him by.

Boom.....

Boom....boom...

Listening to the heavy footsteps move away, the barbarian decided to peek out to obtain an understanding of the situation. As he pulled himself up over the pile of rubble, he spotted the enemy.

There stood the giant. Little over 10 feet tall and claded in thick heavy armor. The monster stood there staring at a large empty building that was half caved in on itself. The giant swerved it's head around as if searching for something. It groaned everytime it moved, producing a mild grinding sound of rusted metal.

A Golem. More precisely an Executioner Golem. A giant born from old technology as a war machine. Equipped with a basic Artificial Intelligence, AI for short, this beast was the smallest of the Golems with very basic functions.

Kill all humans it could find.

A war machine born out of evil to bring the downfall of humanity. Hundreds of years ago these Golems ran rampant across the world near the end of the 4th Great War. Humans unsuccessfully fought back with no hope. They struggled for decades against these giants and managed to thin out the numbers of these beast.

Now, roughly 400 years later, one stood before the barbarian. Though this one seemed heavily damaged. There were signs of it having been in heavy combat. Large fractures and gashes in its outter armor left exposed wires sticking out here and there. Part of its head had been partly dented inward, having its optical targeting sensor greatly damaged.

The barbarian took note of the damage just incase. He didnt want to tangle with the Golem if he didnt have to. He just laid there on top of the pile of rubble, observing.

The Executioner turned its head in all sorts of directions, trying to get a fix of its surroundings. Though it could only partially map out the area infront of it, the golem began to move forward once more with no clear direction. The barbarians guess was that it was trying to find its way to a repair base. Though it looks like its been attemping this goal for a long time based on the amount of rust on the broken parts.

The barbarian let the golem move away for another couple of minutes, then he began to climb back down the pile of rubble. Step by step he carefully moved, not wanting to make much noise. The quiter, the better. As he climbed down he let his mind wander a bit. He was contemplating on the path he needs to take incase there are more golems ahead, for they usually move in groups as a unit.

Clack, clack..clack....

The barbarian was brought back into the moment. He looked down and saw a small stone the size of his fist, had become unlodged from the rubble and tumbled down the side of the pile.

Clack....clack....

Boom. Boom. Boom. Boom.

The barbarians eyes had widen with fear.
