Today was one of those rare days the weather had remained unchanged into the early afternoon, naturally more people indulged in outdoor entertainments, cafès put down their unbrellas to allow people to enjoy the sun on their backs, students who truanted from school opted to go to amusement parks instead of arcades and parks filled up with people who could afford to work outside offices.
A plump grim faced man had been enjoying a bit of gossip alongside his box of doughnuts when a vintage bug made its way to the gates of his workplace. Turning to his colleague who had travelled all this way to share the news during his break he made a quick remark about penniless people trying to make their way into such a place before heading off to shoo them away, squeezing through a small side gate he made his way to the passenger window of the car and tapped loudly twice only to be greeted by sound of a window rolling down the opposite side.
With a humph he made his way to the drivers side, slightly leaning down to peer into the vehicle and felt the words he was about to say stuck in his throat.
"We heard this was the place to be when in town and looking for some fun, but we get here and have to wait an entire 35 seconds to get the bloody gates open" a brown haired boy who looked fresh out of his teens remarked as ge peered at his watch, his friend, who's face carried a look of boredom despite almost half of it being hidden behind dark glasses, remained leaning cheek to fist with no reaction to what was happening.
"Forget it" the brown haired boy took a phone out of the compartment in-between the seats, the action sending warning bells to the security officer and startling him out of his shocked state.
"Um, these two young masters must be new in town, my apologies I didn't recognise you. I'll open the gates for you, my colleague who works inside happens to be nearby, I'll ask him to direct you" without remorse at shoving these difficult rich kids to his colleague he ran to the small security box and pressed a button that opened the gates.
"Who's in the car?"
"Listen Phil, I need this job so just do me a solid and escort these kids- I mean young masters to the reception". The young masters in question shared a smirk before alighting from the car, stunning the man who instantly pegged them as some sort of heirs though unlike the scared man beside him, he felt nothing but joy since he knew large tips would be awarded for anything deemed a good service, especially in cases of passerbys like these two.
"Good afternoon sirs, if I may, would you prefer I drive you two to the reception where you can take a look at our various offered entertainments, I have a golf cart here with me, I'll have someone come and take your car to be parked as well."
"That's more like it" security heard the brown haired boy remark after some silence from the place he'd holed himself in.
"Will the grim faced fatty be taking care of our car till then? "
"Of- of corse" finally daring to show himself he fatty mentioned offered, his eyes momentarily meeting the golden brown ones of the young man before looking down again.
"Then here" his hands reacted quickly enough, catching the keys to the car before signing in relief. The bored golden boy slid his glasses down his nose and gave him a onceover before turning and following his friend to the golf cart, leaving the man staring at the car like a simple blink may cause it to disappear.
"And you are?" Kai asked as he took a seat, his ankle crossed over his knee.
"I forgot to introduce mysepf, Phillip sir"
"HeyPhil, I'm Kai. So what do you do around here? "
"Well I'm mainly stationed around the reception area to help welcome guests and guide them through our different entertainments as well as dealing with various complaints, sort of a jack-of-all-trades as needed"
"Oh so we don't need to go to the reception then, we'll just take you" Kai offered half a smile, causing the young man's nerves to slightly tense.
"Well sirs if it is company you're seeking then I could arrange some-"
"We want a tour of the fields, a round of golf then some drinks- with you" Kai said with finality, having the same thought as his friend whom he knew shared the same hunch he did but maintained his air of boredom as he propped his chin on his fist, staring fixedly into the distance.
Phillips's complexion turned rosy at the flirtatious tone of the young man but he changed course steadily, directing the cart toward the open fields in the distance.
"So Phil how long have you been working here?"
"Since I graduated high school Sir, I've worked my way from mopping floors to get to a uniformed position" a hint of bitterness escaped in his tone as he spoke. A short silence ensued in the cart and Phillip could tell he had overshared, a lump formed in his throat.
"Well Phil, today we just need a friend to complete our little party, how about it?" Kai grinned mischievously, chipping away at the defences of the young man.
"That... should be ok... Sirs".
"Kai".
"Um... Kai"
