Chapter 45 - Chapter 45

She sat in her executive chair staring at the ceiling. She was playing with a pen in her hands. The desk she sat at was empty except for a computer which sat dead on it. The tapping of her feet and the rotation of the chair indicated her unrest. Her hair was short above her fair-skinned face. Her small mouth seemed like she was pouting. Her hips on the chair bulged bewitchingly. It was clear, even if she didn't stand that she had a charmingly curvaceous figure.

"Why are they not coming?" She asked, throwing the pen on the desk in anger. Then there was a knock at the door, which was followed by an impatient "Come in"

In came Anna and an old woman with a face highly wrinkled. Anna closed the door behind her before bowing as deeply as she could, just like the old woman.

"High Priestess."

"There is no time for pleasantries, please rise, my children."

The two rose with revering nods. The lady in the large office was looked to be slightly older than Ann, but they seemed not to care that she called them her children.

"Have you deciphered the prophecy, Margaret?" The beautiful lady asked as she gestured for the two to sit on the two chairs before her desk.

"Yes. In three days' time, he will definitely die." Margaret, the old woman nodded once she was comfortably sitting on the chair.

"Do you believe so? According to the prophecies, he is probably the last mage. We need him." The woman leaned on the desk with a grimace.

"Anna received one yesterday, High Priestess. It gives us hope."

"What does it say?" The lady asked.

"The Celestial Witch's harvest time is here. If the mark is not removed from him, child, his freedom will be for naught. If he dies, Woodland dies with him." Anna repeated the words of the prophecy she had received.

The High Priestess lowered her head in contemplation. It brought an unnerving silence in the office. In a minute, a sad moan left her mouth and a tear rolled down her left cheek.

"Are you okay, High Priestess?" Anna stood on her feet and hooked her hand under the High Priestess' arm. The priestess pulled the arm and nodded that she was alright. Anna had to sit down to wait for her to calm down.

"Hope, what hope is there, Margaret?" After she was done contemplating, she looked at the old woman.

"The second part, High Priestess, says that 'if the mark is not removed from him, he may die and Woodland may die with him. Mother, this shows us that he can be saved and that gives us hope."

"Maybe you are right," The priest smiled, a sly smile before scowling, "but if that is the only consideration you give to it, then you we are as good as dead. The first part tells us that the witch's harvest time is here. Even if we save him, somehow, she will still be harvesting. Besides, the full moon is almost upon us. Those who serve the beast are not just interested in his death. They only kill him because he will probably stand in their way. The prophecy tells us of Woodland dying with him, but doesn't tell us what will happen to Woodland, if it lives."

"High Priestess, what do you mean?" Anna asked.

"Those who serve the beast are part of a scheme that is probably going to destroy Woodland. Eddie may survive, but until he finally rids Woodland of the witch and those who serve her, we are in trouble."

"Does that mean we shouldn't rescue him?" Margaret looked over with wide eyes.

"If he dies, Woodland dies with him. You are the prophets, not me. You are a powerful prophet, Margaret, you should not have such a condensed way of thinking." The priest gave Margaret a disapproving look. There was a little smile, laced with a little anger but the way it brought dimples to her cheeks bewitched even the two women.

"I understand, High Priestess." Margaret nodded with a slight bow.

"We have to go to Cursed Town. I need to prepare the Tekra. We need to be prepared; in case he is saved." The priestess rose and waved at them.

"Mother, are we not going to save him?" Anna asked, her eyes widened in trepidation.

"We will do little to help him. I have already sent people to help him, If they can." The priestess walked out of the office and urged them to follow her, for time was not on their side.
