Chapter 1 - Chapter 1

"Mom for the last time, I'm not coming to the stupid event!" I searched through my closet, searching for a decent outfit for school.

"We have to let the public know about you! Even people at school don't know that you are the sole heiress of the company!" I rolled my eyes eventhough she doesn't see it.

"Again, I don't care if the people around me knows me or not. Also, once I tell people that I am from a wealthy family, I would have a hard time knowing who is a real friend and who is not! It's really a big disadvantage for me!" I finally picked up a black halter top, a plaid black and white skirt, some denim jacket and combat boots.

I removed my oversized hoodie and put on my halter top. "Do you even have friends?" My head snapped at mom's direction. We are actually facetiming.

"Uh, excuse me!" I lowkey laughed, because she was right. "I have Samantha!" I complain while putting on my black lipstick.

"Oh, right. I never see her anymore, invite her to dinner some time. I know how much she loves my Steak!" My parents have always treated Samantha more like a daughter than they do to me. I can't blame them, Samantha fills up the role of being their daughter much better than I do.

"Whatever mom, I have to go to school. Bye!" I zipped my bag and ended the call. I didn't bother eating breakfast. It has become a habit of mine to not eat breakfast because I always find myself late and rushing to school.

I run downstairs, whistling to a song I heard but don't remember while spinning the keys to my car on my finger. What I didn't tell my mom that I have more friends than she think.

I don't tell her that because she'd be hyped about me having friends again. I shouldn't be dwelling in the past if I want to continue living n the present. The story of me having no friends for a long period of time is a story for another time.

I open the big garage door and hop on in my new car. To say that my parents' house is big is an understatement and to say that it is a mansion is an oversimplification. I guess we belong to the top 1% of the people who have complete dominance to the economy. I don't like bragging all these stuff to my friends. Only Samantha knows about me being a 'rich kid'.

Also, the 'wealth' that I should brag about is not mine, it's my parents'. I didn't put any effort into the empire they have built. I confess that I am not as involved as I should be in the family business but managing a big Hotel Chain is just not my forte. I don't even know where heart belongs. I haven't discovered my depths yet. I haven't tested my limits yet.

I park at the most hidden place in the school's parking lot. I gather my stuff and get out. I tie my hair up into a messy bun and walk on as my bag dangles on one shoulder.

"Lulu!" Someone jumped from behind me and slung his arm around my shoulders. I looked at the guy and it was Alexander.

Stop being so touchy or else I'm going to have to call the police and have you arrested for stealing my heart.

"How have you been?" He said in a cheery voice.

"Alex, we saw each other yesterday." I rolled my eyes as we walked into the entrance pf the school, his hand still hanging on my shoulder.

"Does is bother to ask a friend how she's doing?" He smiled as he removed his hand.

"Yeah... a friend." I laughed awkwardly.

That's the best he can ever hand over to you. Being his friend.

I said hi to Sam and Adie (her whole name is Adelaide but it's just so long that we had to give her a nickname. Thus, Adie). They are the only Girl Friends I have and probably my best friends.

While Alex and Tristan, another friend of mine, did their not-so-secret secret handshake, we, the girls just hugged.

"Ugh, my mom wants me to go to the stupid event again." I rolled my eyes.

"What stupid event?" Adie asked. It makes me feel bad that Adie doesn't know about me being an heiress but in some ways, I doing it for her.

"Uhm... you know..." Sam started.

"My mom wanted me to go to a family gathering. And to tell you the truth, my family isn't that great. I mean, my cousin George even has a dog named dog!" I complained. All I said was true but it isn't the whole story. I left the our business is involved in the music industry (well, more like the epitome of the music industry).

We hold this competition annually to discover talent in music and they want me to sing in front of the audience, in live tv broadcasted throughout the coutry, for the opening act!

I mean, I can sing but to have my face displayed in every part of the country is too much to handle. I don't even know how those contestants handle being seen in tv without having a panic attack.

I only attended once and that was it, difficulty in breathing before my act was too much to handle.

"OMG, a realization hit me!" Adie said. "We'll be Seniors after the ball!" How could I forget about the ball!

There is this kind of traditional Junior Senior Ball it's like a Prom Spin-off but more fun! The ball is on Friday which was two days from now and I still have not a gown to wear.

"Oh, speaking of the ball, do you gals have dates already?" Tristan asked. I subconsciously looked at Alex. Stupid Girl stop it or he'll notice!

"I'm probably coming with Gabe."  Samantha said nonchalantly.

"Gabe? You mean that stupid college guy that doesn't even know how to open the car door for a lady?" Tristan whined.

"You make him sound bad! He may be like that but he is loyal!"

"Pft. Loyal my ass."

The whole morning went on with the two fighting again. We're already so used to this that we can even subconsciously blocked their noise.

"So, Wanna come with us?" I raised my brows, curious as I jotted down notes. "Samantha and I are going to the mall to buy gowns. Wanna come? it's after school."

I looked at Adie and smiled as I nodded.

The whole day went on a blurr. After buying our dresses for the Ball I put on my baggy obersized jacket and microwaved some popcorn. We don't have to attend school tomorrow since the Student Council needs to prepare the whole school and the field behind it because that's where the ball is being held.

Can you even imagine girls wearing heels and walking on grass? That's why I decided to just wear my favorite combat boots. It kinda matches with the maroon cocktail dress with black highlights I have on. I am also planning on wearing black fishnet stockings just so that my combat boots won't have to be missing in action.

You may have noticed now that I like dark things. I'm an emo kind of girl. An emo mixed with urban kind of girl.

The phone in the living room started to ring as I waited for the popcorns to pop. We're already in the digital age but we still have a telephone, like literally the vintage phones. Our house has this vintage-y vibe. From the furniture down to the wallpaper. The house itself IS vintage. This house is from the 1800s, we renovated it to replace the foundation but everything else was kept intact.

It is kind of ironic how I grew up in a vintage-y house but grew up to have an intimidating emo urban girl.

"Hey ladybug, I have to remind you about the Competition. It's on Friday. Don't forget!"

"Wait, dad I can--" then he hung up. I love my parents but they are just so persistent into motivating me to go out to the world.

And for the first time in a long time, I have an actual acceptable and reasonable reason! The Ball so happens to be in the same day the event was set to be.
