Chapter 15 - What happened...

Instant Time Mage 15

Sensing the perplexity on my face, Vice president showed an embarrassed look but nonetheless said.

[The last one I used to kill that spider turned to dust after one use... So, this is a new one I got forging from a stone.]

She said, giving the kitchen knife a good grip and twirl. Ah, I was right all along. She was a pro with a kitchen knife.

[Forge?]

This time, what she said actually made me interested. So, I had to ask her what she had done back then. What did she do with the chair and how did that sword kill off that spider?

She gave a thoughtful to me for a moment before saying.

[It's actually complicated... But basically, it's my magic... Or that's what the numerals told me. In other words, I can turn things into other things like effective weapons.]

[Numerals?]

I raise my brow hearing her mention those things back in that dark place as my interest pique. She nodded at me then said.

[At first, I was scared when I saw that huge thing... But then I suddenly heard a voice out of nowhere, calling out to me and telling me that I could help... It was so weird at that time as the voice kept instructing me all the way.]

[So, it was that voice.]

I gave a nod of understanding and then ask.

[Was the voice telling you to make a sword from a chair?]

[That's right. It was ridiculous so I didn't believe it at first. But as it continued to urge me, I was able to do what it told me to do and made a large kitchen knife from a chair...]

She then recounted her experience with the voice. How she had heard it first time after Red girl was killed. How it appeared as Roman numerals floating in the air. About how time had slowed to almost a halt as it kept talking to her for almost an hour when only a second had passed.

By the way, it was actually a long kitchen knife? Not a sword? She confirmed my bewilderment.

I was intrigued more and more as time passed slowly. But because danger was lurking everywhere, we dared not to sit by like sitting ducks and continued to walk.

On the way, I couldn't help but feel annoyed. No, I wasn't particularly annoyed talking with Vice president. In fact, I wholeheartedly enjoyed it. However, I can't help but feel bothered that she's the one holding a weapon.

Don't get me wrong. It's not like I feel threatened or anything. But it's more like I failed my obligations to protect her.

[Something in your mind?]

Vice president asked as she saw me pondering quietly. I looked at her and she looked at me. I thought for a bit on how should I say it...

[I'd like a knife, too...]

[Huh?]

She gave a pondering look in her kitchen knife and shook her head slowly.

[As your senior and Vice president, I have an obligation to protect my juniors from troubles they're facing. And to see my junior holding a kitchen knife is a bit...]

She paused there and look away from me. With no intention to discuss any further, she walked ahead.

I was a bit dissatisfied really. But because I knew that a person like her was bound by responsibility as fellow senior student, I wanted to respect that.

So, to adapt the situation even for a little, I picked up a few stone pebbles and broke a long stick from a tree branch.

Vice president saw what I was doing and frowned a little. I tried to explain myself by saying.

[No knife, no problem. I'll use this instead.]

I showed her the long stick I'm holding that had a really pointy tip. It looked like it could hurt someone if I'm not careful. But because I'm a very careful man, I'm confident that I could assure her that nothing will go wrong.

She sighed with a downcast look and looked at me biting her lower lips before saying.

[Okay. Give me the stick.]

I have no intention to disobey her and gave it. She gave it a glance around in her hand and nodded as she muttered.

[Good enough... Forge.]

Like a flashlight, the stick in her hand lit up brightly before dimming into another form. It was a kitchen knife, entirely made out of wood but with a blunt edge and the only threatening part about it was its sharp tip.

[Here.]

She held it in front of me for me to take. But somehow, seeing her holding two kitchen knives with a serious expression reminded me of a certain Yandere.

I sincerely hope she not one of those...

[Thanks.]

With an amazed look, I took the knife from her. I gave it a look and stab the air in an unprofessional way. It was commendably crafted; the weight was good and I feel safe holding it. But just to be sure, like the idiot I am, I tried pricking my fingertip on the knife tip...

[Ah!]

It was just a little prick but it slightly hurts. My fingertip that I pricked spurted a little amount of blood before bleeding a trickle of red fluid. I was stunned. This knife exceeded the sharpness of any kitchen knife that I ever knew.

[You... Can't you be a little careful about yourself?]

She drew near me and grabbed me injured hand. She hovered it near her face to take a closer look. The trickling blood dripping made her frown and without hesitation, placed my fingertip in her small mouth...

[Hik?!]

Ah... What are you doing?!

Panic could be seen in my face as she gently sucked the fluids using her... Oh God, I could feel her wet tongue...

[St-stop, stop, stop! What are you doing?! That's dirty...]

I didn't want to enjoy this perverted act any longer. For now, let's stop her using germs as an excuse.

It seems she finally came to her senses when I reminded her. She paused, her cheeks blushed instantly and backed away in a fluster.

[I-I'm, I'm sorry, I-I, I didn't mean to--]

She shook her hands in front of me, trying her best or hide her expression, backing away step by step.

Then, she began to run.

[H-hey--]

I was darn glad that I wasn't as exhausted like before. As quick as I can, I grab her arm to restrain her before she could get away, but due to her feelings(?) confusing her so much, she tried to shake me off.

[Don't go running off your own. It's dangerous.]

I told her so. Serious and concerned. And made her face me in the eyes. She looked away in a fluster. And I sighed bitterly.

God, that was close.

What the hell would I do if she had gone without my protection?

Such worrying thoughts made me mad and anxious. But I shook those thoughts aside and linked her hand to mine.

Feeling the tethering between our fingers, I use every processing power I had to weave the words in me and said rather affectionately.

[From now on, we sho--]

Splat!

I wasn't able to finish.

As death came from above, I was stabbed to death by the same thing that killed Red girl.

I had no time to react nor time to scream as I feel myself burning from death begotten injury. My mind rapidly grew hazy as the noxious scent of my blood beckon the reaper to claim my soul.

My eyes died open wide, looking at Vice president and her visage slowly contorting into horror. It made me feel sorry for her as I die, feeling my body as if it was agonizing in flames, and watch the whole turn black.

§

[...]

I open my eyes.

I blinked once. Blinked twice.

Blinked furiously until everything I see came clear. Unfortunately, nothing could explain to me what the fuck just happened...

[Are you okay?!]

Yet...

I look at Vice president. Her glistening eyes trickling with tears. Not knowing how I should respond, she was saddened enough to sob without me not knowing the reason why.

I finally took a look at myself. As always, wearing my school class-fitted for me, untarnished and unblemished just like my body. Fine without a wound to be seen...

Wait... Didn't I just die?!

And that's where it struck me. All along, I didn't know what happened to me after Vice president knocked me unconscious. And now I didn't know what happened after being killed off by the impalement from above.

All I did know was that the pain hurts so bad that I wanted to die as quickly as possible but somehow, it ended up with me waking up without a death related injury along with the empty sense of exhaustion as if I just ran a death marathon and passed out.

[What... happened to me?]

Somehow, I just had to ask...
