The road that led to the Feng family's home was the same one that led to the Nian family's home, but the Feng family home was nearer than the Nian family's, about ten miles from the city. It was a traditional-style Chinese house with a courtyard and a small pond in it. A few ducks were swimming in the pond. When they arrived, it was already dark, but the yard was well-illuminated.
Nian Xi arrived early. She and Ji Chuan stood side by side by the gate to welcome the others. Seeing Nian Junting, they both made fun of they way he dressed.
"Feeling better?" Nian Junting gave Ji Chuan a punch without mercy.
Ji Chuan stayed as motionless as a statue and responded with a smile, "Much better. Just got in. My mom prepared the food herself, because she knew that you'd be here for dinner."
