Chapter 8 - HIT YOU

Yinyang Publishing.

One of the most leading publishing houses in the heart of City X. For years, it is known for its famous authors and best-selling books in the country. Most of its works were even made into television series and movies with good ratings.

The publishing is first headed by Yinyang Corporation Chairman's wife, who is also a great author herself. It was established a year after their marriage and named after the corporation since, 'Yinyang', represents the both of them – as the citizens specualted, but the couple never really explained it themselves.

After thirty years of being the Editor-in-Chief, she decided to retire and gave the position to her daughter-in-law, Min Chu, who quit working at the headquarters for the publishing.

----

Liu Yang has been in the publishing for almost three years now. Back then, it wasn't really her intention to go into being an editor. It was not an easy journey for her to be in the position where she is now especially, because it is not her field of expertise unlike Xu Wan Li. It was not an easy journey for her. Thankfully, the company saw her raw talent and determination, she became an Editor in a span of two years.

And now…

She does not even know if the company made the right decision anymore. Maybe luck was just on her side that time. Can't say that she is talented, can she?

Looking at the computer and at the papers full of scribbles in front of her, Liu Yang sighed heavily. She lays her head on the table and closes her eyes. Maybe all she need is a little break which is, of course, what she always says to herself whenever she is demotivated.

Yes, that's it!

Liu Yang decided to take a short nap when a light knock at the door interrupts her. She immediately straightens her body only to see Xu Wan Li leaning against the door frame and gives out a sigh of relief.

"Slacking, are we, Editor Liu?" he mockingly jokes.

"What now? Why are you here again?" she said, exasperated and lays her head back to ignore him.

"It's already lunch time."

"What?" Liu Yang glanced at her watch. "Why didn't they tell me?" she is referring to her subordinates. She tilted her head to look if the people outside are still working, only to find out they are already gone. "What the hell?!"

Liu Yang looked up at his friend standing in front of her questioningly.

Wan Li shrugged. "Who would approach when brows are knitted this whole time?"

"Oh," is the only reply she could give. She was not aware this whole time? Well, she was not even of the time, either. Strange. Liu Yang robotically arranges her desk, sighing in between.

"Let's eat out and," Wan Li points his index finger at her, "…it's on you today, remember?"

Wan Li eyes her suspiciously at how she is behaving absent-mindedly. "Hey," he softly calls out to her cleaning the messy table.

"Huh?"

Wan Li only purses his lips and decided to stay silent. Maybe she is just starving, is what he thought. "Come on! I know a good restaurant. I'm starving!" he held out a hand to her.

As they are on their way to the elevator, Liu Yang saw a tall man who spotted her and smiled. Being polite that she is, she gave a curt smile back.

"Editor Liu, Editor Xu," the man greeted them as they arrived in front of the elevator.

Liu Yang and Wan Li both gave a nod at him.

Inside the elevator, Wan Li noticed how the man awkwardly takes stolen glances towards Liu Yang. Right now, he hates himself for being so quick-witted as he rolled his eyes out.

'Poor soul.'

"Ahem!" Wan Li clears his throat on purpose making the man flinch a little, surprised. 'Hmp! He should be.'

Wan Li's actions made Liu Yang eye at him annoyingly.

"What?!" he mouthed at her, and earned a grimace.

Just then, the elevator door opens; It's the floor to the building's cafeteria.

"Then, Editors," the man bid them goodbye. He took one last glance at Liu Yang before going his way.

'Why does he have to be so obvious about it?' Wan Li frustratingly protested silently.

"Dear sister, why do you have to be so dense? Or are you pretending not to notice," Wan Li said when the door closes.

"What do you mean?"

Wan Li did not answer and started walking ahead of her towards his car when they arrive at the parking lot.

"What the?!" Liu Yang cursed under her breath, exasperated for being ignored. She slams the door when she arrived at his car while pouting, putting the belt on.

"I think he likes you. No, he does, really like you." Wan Li said with his fingers tapping on the handle. His eyes full of delight as if he discovered some treasure with a grin on his face. "What's his name again?"

"What the hell are you talking about?" Liu Yang is really confused of what he is talking about. She is starving, her head is aching, and she does not understand a thing of what her friend is talking about! She does not know what to do anymore! "Can you please, just be direct and say what you really mean?" she begged with her eyes closed.

"Oh, my bad," Wan Li covers a hand through his mouth as if he really is sorry for it. "I'm talking about that guy earlier. Is it Xiao…?"

"Qiao Lan." She corrects him.

"Ahh, yeah," Wan Li snaps his fingers. He narrows his eyes, "So, you knew he was hitting on you. Why don't you go for it?"

"And why would I do that? I don't date colleagues, it's too burdensome, you know that." Liu Yang harrumphs in her seat. "Are you even my friend?" she adds.

Wan Li shrugs his shoulders, "Yeah, I am your good friend who is helping you get a life. Then, why don't you go on a date with him?"

"I do have a life, duh! Do you want me to hit you instead?" she sighed in defeat. "Can we please just go?"

Wan Li makes face when he realized what kind of 'hit' she is talking about. He starts the car and decided to drop the topic.

"But really…" Wan Li suddenly uttered in the middle of driving.

"Oh, come on, drop it!"

Liu Yang's face is now dark without a trace of being goofy from earlier.

"Yup, shutting up now." Wan Li purses his lips and steps on the pedal.

Liu Yang stops herself from laughing and proceeds to napping.
