Chapter 223 - Is This What We Call A Pregnant Woman's Mood Swing?

Ren went to see the doctor who Tsubaki met, the husband and wife were given well wishes and some precautions on what they should take note of for Tsubaki's early stage of pregnancy. It was a really new experience for both of them. After thanking the doctor, they left and headed back to their hotel room.

It was already close to 3 PM when they arrived so Ren called for room service to deliver their late lunch. He had especially requested for the meals to be prepared carefully and only be consisted of healthy ingredients.

Tsubaki could only gape at her husband's efficiency.

"Darling, when should we tell Grandma and the others?" Tsubaki asked after they had their lunch.

Both of them were sitting on the long couch facing the balcony overlooking the sea. The French windows were opened, allowing the sea breeze to enter.

Ren paused to think for a moment, he glanced at Tsubaki's face and her tummy. He gently placed his palm on it, it was still surreal when he remembered the doctor's confirmation that his wife was really pregnant.

He was going to be a father.

"The doctor said the first three months are crucial for a new mother," He smiled as he recalled the doctor's words. "I want you to be careful and take care of your body. You're only four weeks pregnant now. It'd be too overwhelming if you tell them now."

"But, I don't think it's okay to hide it from Grandma," Tsubaki knew her husband meant well, but they could at least tell their closest family members, right? "Plus, we have a wedding to think of. Our wedding is due in less than 3 months so we need to tell at least Grandma and Aunt Kasumi about it first."

"About that, sweetheart..." Ren closed his eyes once, his gaze was dark once he opened them back to look at her. He sounded guilty when he added, "Why don't we postpone our wedding? I mean, we could hold one once you recover safely after the birth. The preparations would consume our energy and time, I don't want you to tire yourself."

Even though he had never been involved with a wedding before but he had roughly understood how many works would it take to make a successful wedding. When he thought of how his little wife would need to focus on their wedding preparations, he didn't have the heart to allow her.

"Why should we delay it?" Tsubaki asked in confusion. "I don't see a need to postpone our wedding. We could just carry it according to our plan."

"Sweetheart, even before you knew you're pregnant you've already so tired like this," Ren calmly voiced out his thoughts, he caressed her face as gentle as he could. "Do you think you won't be more exhausted once we focus back on our wedding preparations? Aunt Kasumi would plan our wedding but it doesn't mean we could only sit back and watch her do everything. Especially when I know you want to get involve with the process as much as you could."

"But, darling..." Tsubaki slowly shook her head, her hands held his front shirt, her voice was almost pleading as she continued, "I want to include our child at our wedding. It'd be beautiful, doesn't it? I promise I won't tire myself so, please?"

"Sweetheart..." Ren sighed heavily. "You know that I won't usually refuse your request, right?"

Tsubaki's eyes dimmed. Her heart was terribly saddened when she heard his words. She let go of his shirt before she slowly turned her back to him. Her shoulders slumped down as she swallowed down her disappointment.

For once, she felt so disappointed with his decision.

Ren watched her movements with a heavy heart. If he remembered correctly, this was the first time he had adamantly refused her request and the first time she looked so downhearted by it. He encircled her waist, bringing her back close to his chest. Tsubaki wanted to free herself from his embrace but Ren tightened his hug. In the end, Tsubaki could only surrender silently.

"Sweetheart, Tsubaki," Ren gently squeezed her arm while he softly caressing her tummy. "I'm sorry, I don't mean to object to your request."

Tsubaki was still silent, her tears were threatening to drop from her eyes. In her heart, she was silently berating herself for acting like a spoiled child but she just couldn't help it. She was so down when he said they should postpone their wedding.

She had already pictured them on the altar, their wedding outfits perfectly matched them and while he put his arm around her shoulders, she tenderly cradled her baby bump.

It was a beautiful scene to be imagined.

Ren saw how her expression changed after he hugged her. Her gaze was complex but he knew her heart was wavering at this moment. He pressed his lips gently on the nape of her neck, conveying how sorry he felt for making her sad.

"How about this?" Ren suddenly thought of a way for them to compromise. "We'll meet Toshiro and let him conduct a few more detailed tests. If he says there's no problem for you, we would continue with the wedding. But, I want you to be extra careful, is that alright, sweetheart?"

"Really?" Tsubaki turned around, her face brightened as she asked for the confirmation again. "I could do that? Really?"

Ren nodded, he brushed his lips over her teary eyes. "I'm sorry if I sounded overbearing just now."

"En..." Tsubaki shook her head, a hint of remorse glinted in her eyes. She gently squeezed his arms, her gaze trained on his face. "You just want the best for me. I'm the one who should say sorry, I shouldn't act that way. I'm sorry, darling."

Ren stifled a laugh. He couldn't help but laughed softly. "Does this what the doctor said about a pregnant woman's mood swing?"

Tsubaki giggled in glee, her eyes carried a hint of teasing as she replied, "It seems like you have an additional job to do, darling."

"Yes, it seems like I need to polish my coaxing skills. Well, it's okay, anything for my sweetheart and our little bean," Ren pulled her into his embrace, he rubbed her head in a comforting manner. "So, you're not angry anymore with me?"

Tsubaki smiled, she wrapped her hands around his neck and pulled him down slightly. Her breath was warm when it blew on his lips, "I'm not angry with you."

Ren shot an eyebrow upward, he pecked her lips softly.

At 5 PM, two concierges came to their room with two big boxes in their hands. Tsubaki raised a questioning gaze to Ren who instructed them to place the boxes on the table. Once the concierges left, Tsubaki quickly went to his side.

"Darling, what are these?" She stared at the boxes, somehow they reminded her of the boxes of dresses that he had sent to her before. "Clothes?"

Ren nodded. He glanced at her face, there was a faint smile at the corners of his lips. "They are for our date tonight."

"A date?" Tsubaki smiled brightly, Ren felt like he was seeing stars in the pools of her eyes. She looked genuinely excited. "Where are we going?"

"Open the white one," Ren urged her to unseal one of the boxes. "I think you'd love it."

Tsubaki obediently followed his request. Her slender fingers untied the ribbons, letting them fell apart. She carefully lifted the lid, a surprised gasp escaped her lips once her eyes saw what was inside the box.

It was a yukata!

"Darling, this is..." Tsubaki was speechless, she stared at her husband with anticipation in her bright eyes. "Don't tell me..."

Ren nodded once. He opened the black box beside the white one, revealing a yukata for men inside. He turned his head, meeting her eyes. The corners of his lips curved up into a fond smile.

"There's a summer festival tonight at the beach," Ren calmly explained to Tsubaki about their sudden date night. He stretched his long arms and wrapped her shoulders, his voice was so low by her ears. "We should take a stroll together and wait for the fireworks display tonight."

"A fireworks display?" Her excitement was overflowing, she practically jumping in his embrace. "I want to go and see it!"

Ren laughed freely, he got infected with her happiness. He did one of his favorite things in the world, leaning his forehead gently against hers.

It brought him a different sense of intimacy, more than when they were kissing.

"It's going to be a beautiful fireworks display, don't worry, sweetheart," Ren lowered down his hands along her arms until he held her delicate wrists. "We're going to have a great date, alright?"

"Okay~" Tsubaki giggled once again, she looked so happy as she tiptoed and kissed his chin.

The husband and wife got ready for the festival. Besides the light blue yukata with a floral pattern of blooming camellias, Tsubaki got accompanying accessories together with it. The drawstring bag and the hairpin were in the camellias theme too. She styled up her long hair into a bun, a few strands of her hair fell at the sides of her face. Tsubaki completed her look with a cherry-pink lipstick.

"Sweetheart, could you help me?" Ren's voice came from inside the wardrobe. He sounded distressed.

Tsubaki's lips curled up, she immediately went to his side. "What's wrong, darling?"

Ren looked so depressed as he stared at the smiling Tsubaki. A silver yukata sash was in his right hand. Just by seeing it Tsubaki had already known what had caused the stress to her husband.

"You don't know how to tie the obi, right?" Tsubaki took the silver colored sash from him, the material felt soft under her touch. "Let me help you."

Ren smiled helplessly, he nodded. "Thank you, sweetheart."

Tsubaki peered at her husband's appearance. The navy blue yukata looked so good on his tall and slender frame. He had tied the cloth-strings around his waist properly, he just needed to tie the obi next. Well, it was quite difficult for a man who rarely wore it.

Tsubaki placed the obi around his waist, even though it was quite hard considering their difference in heights but she didn't sweat too much while helping her husband wore the sash. She had done it multiple times before for Satsuki. In no time, Tsubaki had made a nice knot for the sash.

"It's done," Tsubaki smiled, she patted the unseen dust from her husband's chest. Her eyes were carefully taking in his dapper appearance. "You look handsome, hubby. Please don't go around and break innocent maidens' hearts, okay?"

Ren laughed lightly, he gently placed one of his palms on a side of her head. The red camellia hairpin matched well with her yukata, it appeared as if the flower was truly blooming from her bun. Ren dipped his head in and pressed a soft kiss over her lips.

"I'm only responsible for your heart. Others don't matter."

Tsubaki pursed her lips. He could be so cringy!
