When both of them returned to the old house, it was slightly over 9 PM. Grandma had been anxiously waiting for them since the last call she made to Ren an hour ago. Once they got off the car, Grandma quickly ran to them, followed by Old Yuuzo and her two personal maids.
"Why did you just come back now? Don't you know I was worried?" Grandma raised her right hand and hit her grandson's chest. Her face was frowning in anger.
Ren didn't stop Grandma from continuously hitting him. He chuckled as he said, "I'm sorry, Grandma."
"You'd better be! Humph!" Grandma then turned to Tsubaki who stood beside Ren. "Are you okay now, Little Tsubaki? You looked so pale when you left the hall earlier."
"I'm sorry for leaving you alone, Grandma," Tsubaki said guiltily. "I'm okay now. Please don't worry."
"How could I not worry? I should teach this ungrateful brat a lesson! How dare you to make me and your wife overly worried about you! Don't blame me if I hit you with my walking stick!" Grandma was clearly furious with Ren.
"Okay, okay, anything you want to do, Grandma." Ren tried to pacify his Grandma yet it only brought scorn on her face. Ren laughed as he held Grandma's hand while the other held Tsubaki's. "Let's go inside. The night is cold. You could get sick standing outside for long."
Grandma could only begrudgingly follow her grandson inside the house. The three of them sat inside the lounge. Old Yuuzo instructed the maids to prepare their supper. They immediately left to handle their tasks.
"Matsuzaki told me that old fox Sagara couldn't be bailed out due to the extent of his crimes. Since when did you plan to oust him from the company? Why you didn't tell me anything?"
Grandma started to throw questions to Ren as soon as her grandson sat on the couch. Tsubaki obediently sat beside him. It didn't escape Grandma's notice the way her precious granddaughter in-law was looking right now. She still looked a bit pale. After having their supper, she would immediately urge her to get some rest.
"I started to be wary with him since the start of me taking office years ago," Ren said truthfully. "But, I was being careful since I didn't have any evidence against him. It was clear that he wanted to control me in order to take over our company, that's why I insisted to bring our company to the next heights within a short span of five years."
Grandma knitted her eyebrows. "Because he couldn't control you, he wanted to harm you?"
Ren nodded. "I thought he just wanted to topple me but since he also planned to take part in Z-Tech by buying the loose shares during Wada Natsuo's reign, I was certain his goals weren't simple. His company's internal affairs are in deep conflict since the beginning of last year. Maybe that was what made him desperate."
Grandma Fuse sighed. She had known Mr. Sagara since her late husband's years in Fuse Corporation. She was certain he wasn't a man of greed but, time had indeed passed. So did a human's heart.
"Enough, just have supper first and then quickly return to your room to rest." Grandma finally responded when the maids and Old Yuuzo had arrived with their supper.
Old Yuuzo and the maids efficiently laid down the supper on the table in front of them. It was a simple chicken soup and bread. Old Yuuzo brewed a pot of flower tea for them. They ate in silence.
"I'm planning to bring Tsubaki for a honeymoon in a few days," Ren said after he was done. He looked at Grandma who was still finishing her soup.
"A sudden plan? Well, it's good for you two." Grandma felt that it was a good decision. So many things happened within a short time. It was understandable if the couple wanted to have a time just for the two of them. "So, where are you two going? Venice? Or Paris?"
"We haven't decide." Ren turned his head and looked lovingly at Tsubaki who returned his gaze. "Or, maybe I shouldn't call it as our honeymoon. Basically, it's only a short getaway in the country. We'll go to our honeymoon after our wedding."
"Wedding?" Tsubaki was slightly startled. She stared at him in confusion. "What do you mean by our wedding?"
Ren smiled. "I haven't told you yet but I have plans for our wedding. We just held a simple ceremony five years ago and you didn't remember any of it. Even though I am late by five years, I still want to present you with a wedding. We could hold it in a small or big scale, it's all up to you."
"Ren... but... it is necessary?" Tsubaki was a bit hesitant. A wedding ceremony had never crossed her mind. After all, they had been married for so long.
"Of course it's necessary! It is a must!" Grandma exclaimed excitedly. All of a sudden her stern face from earlier being replaced with a bright smile. "You need to, Tsubaki! A wedding is every woman's dream. Of course you should do it!"
Seeing Grandma's excited face, Tsubaki chuckled. She looked at Ren before returning her gaze to Grandma. Her mood improved gradually when she could sense the happiness radiated by Grandma and the love of her husband.
"Okay," Tsubaki smiled as she nodded. "I'll do it. The wedding, I mean."
"Yes! Yes! Grandma would help you! The wedding should be done with extra care! It's one and only experience for us!"
As Ren watched her wife's eyes brightened at the mention of the wedding, his lips curved up. He couldn't wait to see her in a white wedding dress. For her, he would do anything.
It was already close to 12 AM when Grandma finally retired to her room. Her original plan to let the couple rest sooner after having supper had vanished instantly as she excitedly told Tsubaki about what they should do and prepare for the wedding. She even brought out the albums of her wedding with Ren's late grandfather from the library.
"Why did you suddenly want to hold a wedding?" Tsubaki asked when the two of them cuddled on the bed.
"I've always have the intention to hold a wedding ceremony for us. But, since I told you to think it over before you properly accepted me as your husband, I do not want to rush into anything. It might sound sudden, but I think this is a good time to prepare for the wedding. "
Tsubaki couldn't contain her joy any longer. She looked up and kissed her husband's chin. Her eyes brightened as she looked at him.
"Thank you, hubby."
Ren laughed. He returned the kiss, aiming for her lips. "Let's spend the rest of our lives together, en?"
Tsubaki nodded. She immediately buried her head in his chest as warmth enveloping her heart.
It was so good to be with him.
