"The bridge that's supposed to connect the two towers of the hotel collapsed. It was still in construction and a few workers have been injured. The collapse happened this morning when the workers have just begun their work. They have been sent to the emergency department."
"How many casualties? Any report on the cause?"
"Five, sir. Luckily their injuries aren't severe. But one of them is still in the operation theater. The initial report stated that it might due to the raw materials used in building the bridge. They are still investigating it."
Hibiki briefed Ren while they walked fast to get to the helipad built on the company. A helicopter had been waiting for them. The loud sound coming from the blades and engines of the helicopter drowned their conversation. They didn't talk any longer as they quickly aboard the helicopter. Before they took off, Ren and Hibiki wore their helmets and seatbelt. A bodyguard was sitting with them.
Hibiki brought out a few pieces of printed papers from his pocket and handed them to Ren. Ren unfolded the crumpled papers. His brows furrowed once he read what was reported there. His fingers that were holding the papers slightly shook in anger.
As the helicopter was slowly lifted from the ground, Ren threw his gaze outside the windows. In his haste, he forgot to inform Tsubaki that he would be out of the city for a moment. He needed to call her once he landed.
Since the weather was clear and there was no harsh wind, after two hours' worth of ride the helicopter finally landed safely within the compound of the construction site. A group of people quickly ran towards the helicopter. Ren had just gotten off when one of the site supervisors greeted him with a grave face.
"President Fuse! We're sorry for letting this happen!"
Ren waved his hand, dismissing the supervisor's attempt to seek forgiveness, There was still important matter to attend to before the session of apologizing began. He needed to know the root cause of what was happening.
"We'll discuss about this later. How're the injured employees? Any news about them?"
"They are still being treated. Luckily most of them weren't heavily injured. But..." The man in a checkered shirt trailed off. He looked hesitant to report about something.
Ren frowned. This wasn't the time to be hesitant. Damage control should be done as soon as possible. "Speak."
"The one who's being operated earlier... the doctor said his right leg might need an amputation. His leg got crushed under the rocks."
The unknown employee might lose his leg which meant he couldn't resume his work. It would also mean a decreased in his survival skills.
"Have the media get any winds on this matter?"
The man shook his head. "There was two articles online but the PR team has suppressed them for the moment. It would be just a matter of time before they hit the headlines again."
Ren nodded slightly. He understood how the media worked. It won't be long before the media would get a hold of this incident. The reputation of Fuse Corporation could be damaged if this matter didn't be handled properly.
"Hibiki."
"Yes, Master."
Hibiki stepped closer to Ren while the latter whispered instructions to him. The site construction workers couldn't make out what their boss was telling his special assistant but judging from Hibiki's stern face, it would do them no good if they overheard.
"Go."
Hibiki nodded. He ran to the pilot while Ren walked towards the shack used as an office for the site. He needed to conduct an emergency meeting. The authoritative figures for the construction took their seat and one of them explained their findings in detail.
Well, Ren didn't surprise to hear them.
"So, our cause might be due to the batch of raw materials?" Ren leaned against the chair, looking at his subordinates' faces one by one.
"Yes, President. It seems like the new batch of cement is in low quality, unlike our previous ones. The supplier said that he just did what our side told him to before he sent the new batch. But, this is impossible! We have never changed our cement."
Voices of agreement echoed in the shack. All of them held integrity as their bottom line. In their line of work, injuries and deaths could happen easily if they didn't pay extra attention to the calculations and materials used for their projects. This was the first time something happened during their time working for the company. Obviously their pride was hurt.
A shadow crossed Ren's face for a moment. He couldn't be rash in reprimanding the workers when this matter hadn't been investigated properly. After all, for such a matter to happen during this crucial time, he couldn't help but felt that someone was warning him.
As if he would surrender. This incident actually could serve as a stepping stone to increase the impact of destroying his enemies.
But, first...
Ren took out his phone from his pocket. His slender fingers swiftly typed a series of messages to be sent to different receivers. After sending them, his fingers paused on the screen when a pretty smiling face appeared in his mind. The cold in his dark eyes dispelled for a bit when he typed a short message to her.
Sweetheart, I love you.
It was the usual words of love that he had always whispered to her but those words weren't due to routine. It was because they had become a part of his life after he met her. He spoke those words because he loved her wholeheartedly, trying to convey his deep emotions when he was at a loss of words.
Him telling her he loved her was because he was afraid if it would be the last time he uttered the heartfelt words to her.
Without waiting for her reply to arrive, he placed his phone back inside his pocket. Ren asked the workers to lead him to the area that collapsed. The group quickly left the small office.
