Chapter 69 - You Weren't A Coward When You Wanted To Kill Me

After reaching a decision, Tsubaki quickly got inside the wardrobe and changed into a simple black dress. She didn't want to wear her usual light colour dress to the detention center. The butterfly sleeves draped to her elbows. She chose a pair of black shoes with comfortable soles.

Most of her new dresses and accessories in the wardrobe were chosen by Grandma Fuse. The designs were low key yet they actually came from Old Madam Fuse's personal team of designers and seamstresses. The old lady had really spoiled her.

"How's your foot?" That was Ren's first question once Tsubaki stepped outside the wardrobe. He too chose a set of black suit, making him looked extra brooding.

"Feels much better." Tsubaki looked down and stared at her bandaged foot. She really needed to teach her husband to not over worry himself over her affairs. He might turned bald earlier if this continued endlessly.

"Don't overexert yourself." Ren smiled in helplessness. He handed a clutch to Tsubaki. Her mobile phone and cards were inside. "Let's go. Hibiki is waiting downstairs."

Grandma Fuse supported Tsubaki's decision to meet Madam Kitaoji. Even though she felt livid and wanted to tear that woman apart for trying to harm her granddaughter in-law, she still believed that Tsubaki knew how to handle the matter. If not, she won't agree to meet that wretch woman.

"Whatever you want to do to that woman, grandma will support your decision. Don't worry about anything!"

Grandma Fuse frowned in displeasure. Tsubaki laughed because she felt that grandma was being so cute today. It looked as though grandma was the one who was wronged by Madam Kitaoji, not her.

"Okay, grandma. I know what to do." Tsubaki reassured the old lady. "Besides, Ren is with me. You just need to stay calm and continue watching your drama, okay?"

"Alright, I'll believe you." Grandma Fuse sighed.

Ren curled his lips hearing what his wife had said. Yes. As long as he was with her, he won't allow anything bad happening to her.

Madam Kitaoji was being held in a detention center located south of the city. It took them almost one hour on the expressway before they reached the center. The director of the center and Lawyer Furukawa were already waiting for their arrival.

"President and Mrs. Fuse, welcome." The director shook hands with Ren. Tsubaki nodded with a smile.

"Where is she?" Ren didn't bother to exchange formalities. He just wanted this matter to be solved as soon as possible. The gloomy atmosphere in this place was something he dislike.

"Madam Kitaoji has been notified of your arrival, master." Lawyer Furukawa nodded to a direction. "She'll be escorted inside the room in a moment."

"You could wait here." Tsubaki looked up to her husband, eyeing his worried expression. Before he could object, she added, "I won't be long."

Ren nodded albeit hesitantly. Tsubaki caressed circles around his knuckles before slowly letting go. A fond smile graced her face. She turned around, following Lawyer Furukawa. He watched as his wife's figure disappeared inside a room. He felt uneasy but he restrained himself from charging inside the room and pulled her back to him.

She had asked him to trust her, right?

In the end, Ren took a seat on a bench near the room. He crossed his legs and leaned sideways on the seat. The director felt chills on the back of his spine when he caught a look of the man's darkened gaze.

He would never want to cross this man in his entire life!

The guards led Tsubaki to a room at the end of the corridor. The was a table and two chairs inside. A sturdy glass wall had been built to separate the middle section of the table. Lawyer Furukawa waited outside as per Tsubaki's request. Tsubaki sat down and calmly waited for the woman to be brought to face her.

A few minutes passed, a female guard escorted a woman clad in a prisoner uniform inside. She looked wan and sallow, unlike her usual bold image in flashy designer outfits. The uniform was loose fitting, adding 10 years to her appearance.

Tsubaki straightened her back, assessing the woman. Madam Kitaoji locked eyes with hers. Countless emotions flashed in her eyes, notably fear and regret. Her lips trembled, unable to speak.

"Please sit, Madam Kitaoji." Tsubaki nodded to the chair beside the woman. "I believe we have something to talk about."

Madam Kitaoji had no choice but to sit. The delicate young lady before her was so calm. There was no hint of her thoughts on her face. She couldn't read why the lady wanted to speak to her and why she agreed for this meeting.

Minutes passed by but neither of them talk. Tsubaki just looked directly into Madam Kitaoji's eyes. The atmosphere turned heavier as her action made the older woman felt uncomfortable. Madam Kitaoji's eyes darted to left and to right.

She didn't expect this frail looking woman could oppress her without even speaking!

"Madam Kitaoji."

Finally, Tsubaki broke the silence. She felt that the older woman would break down if she didn't speak any sooner. She too wanted to end this quickly. She didn't want to spend extra time with a woman like her.

"Ye... yes?" Madam Kitaoji stuttered.

She clenched her fists. Even though she was born in a wealthy family, she was weak at heart. She only knew how to trample on the poor and flatter the rich. Fuse Family was totally different from her and her husband's family! She couldn't speak carelessly to the young lady before her.

"I don't think that when you hired the men to kill me, you were as coward as this." Tsubaki leveled her gaze to the woman's pale face. Her little face exuded coldness, chasing away the warmth that had always been radiated. At that moment, she looked as if she was an ice queen.

Madam Kitaoji gasped, didn't believe that this woman who she had always saw as a weak person could make her froze in fear. Her lips trembled, her thoughts went numb.
