Chapter 2 - Knowlege Ain't Free

I opened my eyes slowly as I gazed at my surroundings. After entering my avatar, I immediately set off through the portal. I gazed briefly around me noting how I was in an isolated area with thick foliage surrounding me. The environment is the same as earth, apart from the fact that the chlorophyll was purple making the plants look toxic.

I turned my attention to my new body, I decided to set it to random average because its exciting not knowing what your going to look like, I can still modify it hopefully. I created a full-length mirror before me and realised I wasn't wearing any clothes, thankfully I left the gender as permanently female because I don't feel comfortable in male bodies. I've spent 75% of my total experience as a woman, not changing it now. I created a plain white cotton dress to cover myself up along with some under garments before continuing my inspection.

I had green eyes and ginger hair which was very short and spiky. I attempted to pat it down but to no avail. At least I don't have to worry about a hair-brush. I had quite a tall slender frame with freckles all over my face and arms which contrasted my milky skin. I felt the freckles were a bit excessive, but I couldn't be bothered to change them.

While contemplating to wear shoes or not my system interrupts my thoughts.

"Hello master, I am your AI here to assist your every needs"

I thought before replying "Call me Domino" it's a name I used excessively in my past lives online and as an alias. The AI has quite a genderless voice with zero personality, that's about to change. I placed a hand on my hip before continuing.

"You are now known as Aloe, female AI with a random personality"

A sarcastic drawl hit my ears "Yes master"

I rolled my eyes, why did I even program this personality, just why? Not remembering that Aloe can hear me I received a mind jolt as a reminder. It stung like hell, but I deserved it, I did say random personality.

"Proceed with protocol"

"Retrieving necessary data from archive can I proceed?"

"yes"

I calmly sat on the ground not bothering to go to my space as I warped the light around me rendering me invisible. Information about the planet its culture and politics flowed my brain.

Kellvera is a currently a peaceful world with seven gods looking over their respective races. It's a planet specialised in magical engineering and magical artefacts with dwarves and faries being the dominant race.

Everybody is vegan as the beasts are tamed by the beastmen tribes and they are sacred to them, most plants carry the necessary vitamins for a healthy diet. Only the beastmen eat meat as they have a pact with the other tribes for unknown reasons.

I growled in frustration realising this was the only information I got. Information from the archive is only restricted based on what planet your on. If I wanted to know about the next planet over I would have full access, If I haven't been there I can only view it and not download it into my system. When on a planet the information accessible via the archive is extremely limited because it would defeat the purpose of going if you already knew everything there was to know. Surprisingly this is a global law made by the earth itself showing how our innate abilities are connected to the planet.

Our aim is to have a completed archive of the universe and it's a feat to experience an entire planet. My aim in life on this planet is to fully archive and analyse the magical technology as its my chosen field of research I mean who doesn't want to study tech and magic?

"Me" Aloe's sarcastic voice cut through my thought process which annoyed me a lot. With an already fed up sigh I lift my self off the ground and pull up a mental map of the area. It was then I realised that the coordinates given were off as I was exactly at the opposite side of the continent. Well done archive, that just means that information I was given was old and nobody has been here for a long time, or more likely forgot to record their progress to the archive as that tends to happen sometimes. Often people store up the information and forget to automatically send it back up.

I decided to go with the flow and began to walk toward the forest in an easterly direction because the sun was just rising, the sun rises in the east here as well. I began to walk through the purple undergrowth scanning everything in sight and sending up to the archive. This earned a few complaints from Aloe.

"What's the point of repeatedly sending it up? Just let me store it."

"We can't do that because the planets records are out of date and I need the experience" I snapped back at her. After walking for several more hours my eyes were beginning to hurt as I'm in an organic avatar and they can't handle innate abilities so well. I noticed that the trees were beginning to thin out and made a beeline for the exit as I saw the sky getting darker overhead.

Upon reaching the end I realised it was a massive clearing earning a sarcastic chuckle from Aloe. I ground my teeth in frustration. I wasn't allowed to look at the map again and was only left with a semi filled one showing the area id covered, which was a lot. I could see faint ghostly outlines on the map showing what I had committed to memory the first time I'd seen it.

The knowledge restriction really made me want to blow this planet sky high, however resources were fortunately unrestricted. This meant that while I rested I could start crafting a mode of transport within my space because the next blink of civilisation isn't within the next 50 miles. Turns out I landed in a place called Eternal forest known as the final resting place of the elves, that's all I know.

As I got ready to settle in the nearest tree to begin crafting a sudden commotion arose nearby. In the clearing a dozen metres away from me I could see two elves fighting a chicken… I guess the elves weren't dead like I just thought, they were hibernating? Besides the point they were fighting a chicken, no wait…

Upon closer inspection I realised the tail feathers were actually snake tails.

Aloe snapped "It's a cockatrice you dolt"
