Chapter 33 - The waiting game

A week went by in the blink of an eye. During this week, the various gangs were doing their proposed surveillance hourly. Nightfall came, and the sounds of the city could be heard all around. It was filled with excited voices as they interacted on the streets.

However, some individuals could be seen eying the crowd every now and then. They all wore different coloured clothing as they surveyed the swarm of people out and about.

"When did we become the rodent patrol of the city? Are we now pawns that have no choice in our own life? Our gang is nothing but a complete joke at the moment."

A disgruntled feminine voice was suddenly heard from one of the many people seemingly ensuring to engrave the faces of all the passersby.

This is such a waste of our time. We all know Mouse only can be found when he wants to. We all know his character to inflict pain without blinking an eye. So why are we now fish bait to be devoured?

"Aren't we just setting ourselves up for a bad or worst-case scenario? where we are the losers."

She continued, and the more she spoke, the more upset she became.

"Will you shut the hell up before you get us all killed, you idiot? Who knows what techniques that senior may have employed to ensure our task is complete. We are just one of the gangs on the lookout for him, so our odds are not that good anyway."

A man dressed in yellow and white rebuked as he looked at the young girl who spoke her mind.

"The Mouse is one to be feared, as he is brutal in nature when inflicting his pain, but we all know he will not kill any of us. We have never seen him beat anyone to death's door, as he apparently has a line he doesn't cross.

The senior, however, is a different case. We have all witnessed how evil of a person he is. Without blinking an eye, he would kill all of us and then have a cup of tea afterwards."

As the man spoke, dread could be heard in his voice as he mentioned the senior. The girl who had spoken realized her mistake and started to look around in a panic.

Suddenly, a group member shouted out in alarm, startling everyone present.

"It's him, it's him!"

He pointed to the street close by where a teenager walked without a care in the world.

"Are you sure it's him?"

The man dressed in yellow exclaimed as he looked across the street.

"There is no mistaking it is him for sure. That fiend has haunted and plagued my dreams every night since I last encountered him. I know his face better than my birth mother by now."

An agreement was heard from the previous disgruntled girl. She subconsciously rubbed one of her arms and butt as she remembered his deplorable acts.

" Quick, you three go and inform the senior immediately."

The man dressed in yellow and white had a smile plastered over his face as he thought of his incoming award. Obviously, he would not take the offer of pills due to what happened to Bishop. Seeing their reluctance toward the drugs, the elder had agreed to offer gold coins as the reward.

"The rest of us will track him by a small distance to ensure he does not know he is being tailed.

🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

"So he has finally appeared after all this time. I actually thought he would be hiding in fear within some gutter."

The elder in black grinned while sitting in his chair as the three people before him shook in fear.

"Take me to him before he spots one of you wastes following him."

🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

A youth with dreads could be seen walking through the crowd, seemingly unperturbed by his surroundings. He had a slight smirk as he walked nonchalantly. A distance behind him, the individuals following him could be nothing but the opposite. Sweat flooded some faces as they made sure to keep their distance apart.

"How can he be so oblivious to his surroundings at the moment? knowing fairly well that his head is being hunted."

The man in yellow could not bear to question as he looked on the youth before him with a curious gaze.

" This guy is a definite madman; how could the normal understand such a person? Would a normal man dare to do such acts as he has done? If there is not a screw loose in his head, then the moon is just a giant shining a lantern at us from space."

The discussion continued as they made their way until the streets became less and less occupied. Soon no one could be seen as they reached a low traffic area in the city's west. Before them, they saw an old abandoned large factory that seemingly went through the centuries.

Cracks could be seen on the walls, and the roof above looked old and withered. The whole building looked like it could collapse at any given moment. Taf then made his way into the unstable structure to the surprise of the prying eyes behind him.

"Why is he entering this old godforsaken factory at this time of the Night?"

They all looked at each other as the question was brought up.

"Who knows? Probably this is his hideout and the reason we could never figure out where he is from. After all, who would think anyone could live in this place."

The man in yellow and white interjected as they stood outside the building, not daring to enter.

"He truly is a rodent, as only a rat could live in such a place. Does he not fear living in a dump like this."

The previously disgruntled girl jumped at the chance to put down the Mouse. She really hated the sight of him with every fibre of her being.

Suddenly they felt a presence appear before them dressed in black with a haunting smile plastered all on the face.

"Is he the one I just saw entering the building?"

The question was posed by the elder to the startled group. They looked at the man dressed in black and behind him were a large group of people they were far too familiar with. Gomorra, Brent, Stefan and other leaders of the different gangs from the city waited with varied expressions.

Gomorra looked expectantly, while Brent and Stefan showed signs of someone who did not want to participate. How could they not though knowing how despicable the man before them was?

Inside the factory, the Mouse was sitting on a brick with his eyes closed.

' I'm truly hoping you won't disappoint me, dear old senior.'

He grinned as he thought.
