Chapter 119 - Tournament's End

The tournament continued that afternoon, and the next four matches would all happen in arena 1. The spectators packed the stadium from top to bottom. Every row was filled in anticipation of the final bouts.

The first match was Tia vs. Mia. The two twins were pitted against each other. Mia the next Head princess and Tia, her twin sister, held nothing back while they fought. The trident and twin swords clashed. Eventually, Tia won surprising everyone.

The second match was similar to the first β€” Brick vs. the unnamed Bear variant. The two bear beastmen fought wildly. Brick tried to use his skill against the other beastman's strength, but the other bear variant was too powerful. Brick's shield and spear were broken, and he pummeled into submission. The bear variant seemed almost mad that this beastman chose to live in Lankani City instead of with its people.

The third match was utterly one-sided. Kieya faced off with Dur-dar. His attacks overwhelmed her so quick that she didn't get to fire a single arrow. Isabella felt sorry for her but realized at that moment that even if she were in Kieya's place, she would have lost too.

The last match of the evening was Abella vs. Helias. Helias didn't win this match so easy as Alice and Sect Master had trained Abella in a soul defense art. Even without the enchanting mind attacks the blunt force of the sound attacks penetrated Abella's defenses and knocked her out.

In the end, the top 4 finalists became the descendants of the four races that invaded earth. This would also motivate Unity College's students for many years to come.

After the four matches concluded, Leo, Pedro, and Isabella headed home. Instead of resting both of them started to cultivate their bodies as soon as they got settled. This tournament lit a fire within them and now gave them something to strive towards.

While they were cultivating, Shadow showed up to talk to Leo.

"Hey, Shadow."

"Leo." Shadow nodded at him. "How are they?"

"They're good. I think this will make them better warriors." Leo then looked at her and said, "I don't think I could beat the kids out there at their age."

Shadow looked at him and laughed. "Leo, you pulled off miracle after miracle. You also fought for your life. These kids are only fighting for their pride."

Even though Shadow was a level ahead of Leo and defeated him in most sparring matches, she wouldn't ever make an enemy out of him. She had seen for herself that in those situations his true skill shines.

Eventually, Pedro and Isabella grew tired and turned in for the night. Shadow and Leo stayed up talking and discussing life and cultivation. The morning came fast and the final day of the tournament was upon them.

Shadow, Leo, Pedro, and Isabella headed towards the arena one where the last battles would ensue. Many airships floated above the stadium to capture the final four fight.

"Welcome! Welcome, everyone to the final day of the tournament. The first match today will be Dur-dar vs. Tia." The crowd cheered loudly especially the draconians. Since none of them made it into the top 32 most cheered for Dur-dar.

The draconian and mermanian squared off and erupted with a flurry of attacks right out the gate. Dur-dar body and scales proved to be formidable. After receiving several attacks, Tia couldn't deal a lethal blow, because the flame arts burnt her badly. The fight ended quickly once collasped from the pain, so the judge deemed her unable to carry on.

"The winner of the first semi-final match is Dur-dar." Aarav announced to the crowd as they cheered. "The next semi-final match will be bear variant vs. Helias."

The two warriors entered the arena one holding his harp and the other stretching. As soon as the battle began, Helias started to play the harp. The music attacked the bear variant and almost defeated him until he used Bear Release. This berserk mode didn't allow the music to affect him and in one swift Paw Strike Helias was defeated.

"The bear variant is moving on to the final match. We will allow each participant two hours to rest and we will hold the final bout."

Everyone in the stadium started to get restless. So Gladier proposed that the two semi-finalists, that lost, fight for 3rd place. The winged humans and mermanians in the crowd agreed and cheered for the fight to happen. The two youngsters were the pride of their race, and each side wanted to know who was stronger.

So Helias and Tia met in the arena to face off against each other. Both barely had any time to heal up. Tia wasn't confident in defending against Helias' music, but she decided to fight it solely with her own will. As soon as the match started, she dashed towards Helias when the music reached her ears she stopped in her tracks. Tia tried fighting the music attacking her soul with her will. She took three steps forward and collapsed. The music was too powerful to confront this early as a cultivator. Aarav announced Helias as the third-place winner and Tia for fourth-place.

With the loser bracket fight finished, it was time to find out the winner. "We have arrived at Unity College Tournament's final fight. Dur-dar, the draconian noble warrior, vs. the bear variant, representing the beastmen race. Are both participants ready?"

The warriors nodded their heads and Aarav announced for the fight to begin. The two warriors had strong and fierce bodies, and in their first clash, they blew each other back several paces. It was apparent the beastman was the stronger of the two. Dur-dar leveled the playing ground when he started to use his fire techniques. Burned and scorched, the beastman kept fighting, but in the end, his wounds grew worse, and his movements became sluggish. Dur-dar finished the beastman with a claw strike and claimed victory.

"We have our champion. In the first ever Unity College Tournament, Dur-dar the draconian noble took first place. Can we get a round of applause for the victor!"

As the crowd started to applaud the draconian, a blast went off in the masses in the arena. The explosion instantly killed hundreds of people. Lankani City had its first-ever tragedy.
