Yun Bei Fen grabbed Mei Chao Bing's sleeve and evaded his gaze. "Alright, I'll tell you. But you have to promise that you won't laugh."
Mei Chao Bing raised his brows. "Why should I laugh?" He really couldn't imagine any reason that would have made Yun Bei Fen fall in love with him that would make him laugh. Wouldn't he be laughing at himself if he did? After all, the person this was about was him.
Since his senior martial brother had promised, Yun Bei Fen didn't mind too much anymore. He was sure that Mei Chao Bing would never break any promise that he had given him. He wasn't that kind of a person. No, Mei Chao Bing was a man of his word!
Thus he looked back up at Mei Chao Bing and started to explain. "You know, when Master took me in, I was still very young. By that time, my parents had both died. My mother … she had long been dead. I actually don't even remember her much. As for my father, he was outside to work and running late even though he was normally always on time. That day a huge storm had hit the place where we lived and the group my father was traveling with must have taken shelter in some cave. People later told us that lightning must have struck. The cave had collapsed and everybody was dead right away."
Mei Chao Bing's heart ached at hearing this story. His little bunny had actually been forced to live through something like that. And even at a time when he had only been a child. He sighed and patted Yun Bei Fen's head. "That must've been hard."
Yun Bei Fen nodded his head. "It was."
Mei Chao Bing leaned forward and hugged him, hoping that the warmth Yun Bei Fen got now might make up for it a little bit. "I'm sorry. So you were alone since then?"
Yun Bei Fen shook his head. "No. I lived with my uncle's family then. But my uncle and my aunt had lots of things to do and they also had their own children so they didn't have too much time. And it was very different from how it had been with my father.
"You know my father always liked to joke around. He also had things to do but he always tried to spend time with me when he could. And he told me lots of things. He also said that …" Yun Bei Fen tugged at Mei Chao Bing's robe and made a pause. He really didn't know how he should say this.
Mei Chao Bing brushed through his hair and gave him a smile. "If it's too hard to speak about, then you don't have to say anything. We can talk about something else." He was kind of curious what all this had to do with Yun Bei Fen falling in love with him though. It sounded like a completely different story.
Yun Bei Fen shook his hand though. "No, it's alright. It's been a long time since then. And Master agreed to be my second father. So it's alright."
Mei Chao Bing almost laughed out loud. Elder Baili had agreed to be his second father? He really wondered how that happened.
"Well, anyway, my father often told me stories about my mother. According to him, she was a very beautiful person. He always said when he saw her for the first time, he already knew she was the best person around and that he didn't want to marry anybody else but her. He was still young back then but he never regretted it even though they didn't have much time with each other in the end. He said that … if he could, he would have married her even sooner so that I could have been born earlier and lived with her a while longer. So he told me that I shouldn't wait too long before I decide whom I want to marry. If I see somebody and I think they are a good person and don't look too shabby, then I should definitely go for it!"
Mei Chao Bing's eyes widened. Excuse him? He wasn't too sure if he had understood that right. The story of how his father met his wife was actually the reason why his little bunny had fallen in love with him? So in Yun Bei Fen's eyes, he had chosen his wife back then? That was a little hard to imagine.
Yun Bei Fen looked up only to find Mei Chao Bing staring at him in a daze. "You … You don't like it? I'm sorry. It's just that when my Master brought me over to the Teng Yong Sect, there was that competition going on and I saw you fight against the outer sect disciples. You were looking really great! You were handsome and you knew how to fight and I was very impressed. So I thought of my father and how he had talked about when he saw my mother for the first time and I thought that maybe this was the same. And my Master told me before that my parents probably called me Bei Fen because of the black warrior of the Teng Yong Sect in the North and that that might mean that I should become a cultivator. And you were also a cultivator as well so I thought that … I should become a cultivator like you."
Mei Chao Bing had no idea what to say at all. So this was really how his little bunny had fallen in love with him? This sounded too strange. He couldn't just keep quiet though. Yun Bei Fen's big eyes were slowly turning watery and he really couldn't bring himself to say anything bad. "That's an adorable story. Just as adorable as you." He leaned forward and kissed Yun Bei Fen's forehead. "I'm very happy that you knew this early on that I was going to be the person at your side. It's a pity you always ran away though. Why did you do so? Since you had decided on me then shouldn't you have wanted me to see you so that we could get together early?"
Yun Bei Fen looked down and pursed his lips. "Isn't that also because of my father?"
Mei Chao Bing raised his brows even higher. He really wondered if the story could get any more bizarre than it already was.
