Chereads / The Bodyguard System (Dropped) / Chapter 5 - Calm Before the Storm

Chapter 5 - Calm Before the Storm

Ren, having gotten ready for his duty, decided to check out the complex. He hadn't had any time to check the flat out the last night. He opened up his door, peeking his head out a crack, reflexively checking for safety before entering.

"Yo!" Dimitri said, casually waving, "You gonna teach me martial arts? If so, not right now. We have to get to school, you have to register as my bodyguard, and enroll you."

Having heard a few things last night, he understood that the schooling system had changed drastically from what the U.S. had before. Nowadays, the school system was divided into two grades, primary school, and college, both of which were as expensive as the old college.

The difference was preferential treatment, and scholarships were as easy to get as a ticket to the tram. Ren disliked this, as it made self-schooling more popular. Most people were smart enough to understand student loans counted towards scholarships.

There was, in fact, an underground of schooling for non-wealthy people. The government turned a blind eye, as they paid quite a bit of their own revenue out of pocket. This made it, so the schools actually lost money each year, causing them to slowly shut down.

Dimitri was just above the line to be able to afford primary schooling. He was currently ten, and, in grade 7 (He skipped a few classes) had more than a few bullies. The only friend he had often made fun of him, but kept it on the low side, not daring to do it in front of Dimitri.

"Fair enough, let's go then." Ren replied, nodding with a knowing smile, "Don't worry, I'll protect you from bullies and such, just as long as you can't defend yourself."

Dimitri shook his head, "No, I don't want protection from bullies, but if it is detrimental to my life, then intervene. I also won't let people bully you, as they'll think you're we-"

"No need." Ren cut Dimitri off, "I have my dignity, but kids that are years younger than me cannot upset me. If they could, then I'd have died long ago." He looked off, far away in memories, "Yes, very dead."

"Alright, anyways! Let's go!" Dimitri cut Ren from his reverie, turning away to the door, "Wait, you have a license right?"

"Yep." Ren flatly said, nodding, "Why in tarnation wouldn't I?"

"Okay let's go." Dimitri nodded, turning to the door and avoiding the last question. Ren followed him off, not bothering with the door. (It automatically locked.) He soon overtook Dimitri, leading him to the garage where his Lamborghini sat.

"Yo, you aren't going to steal a car? Are you?" Dimitri said as Ren walked over to the Lamborghini, "That person will be seriously pissed..."

Ren grinned, pulling out his keys and unlocking the door, "Yep, stolen, totally." He hopped in his seat, close the door, and started the car up.

"****!" Dimitri swore, "Wait, don't tell mom I swore! Please!"

Ren looked at Dimitri, grinning, "If you don't get in then I will, otherwise sure." Dimitri complied, buckling in the passenger seat. He looked about excitedly, eyes wide like a kid in a candy store.

"Aww, sick!" He cried to this and that, "It's like the batmobile!" Ren smiled widely, igniting the engine, and driving off to the entrance. "Yep, sick is right!" Ren remarked, exhilarated, "Your classmates won't make fun of you now!"

"Hah! You wish!" Dimitri replied enthusiastically, "This is my dream car!"

Ren drove off, after checking through the gates. People on the sidewalks stared, many watchful gazes were drawn as well. In no time at all, they arrived at Lord Farkwad's Academy of Dope, Dimitri's school.

A few kids had already arrived, ready to have another dull school day. When Ren's Lamborghini showed up, a small crowd formed, all of them wondering who the kid was.

Ren opened the door, walking out in his Kylo suit. Dimitri made a smaller appearance, barely noticed by anyone.

"Oh ****! That's Mother****in Ren!" Screamed a 6th grader who wanted to join the military, "**** I'm gonna pass out!"

Needless to say, he did, causing the crowd to pull out their phones to check the news. The silence ensuing was quite awkward, Ren scratched his head. Soon, many kids had found the article, as it was still trending.

More screeches were thrown out of fainting kids. Ren let out a chuckle, it was like watching a herd of fainting goats all fall down of fright. Dimitri looked about, scratching his head, "Hmm, maybe you shouldn't wear that suit to the principle... He may have a fit too."

"You'd be right... I didn't know kids like the military... Must be a new trend." remarked Ren, melding Kylo back into his skin. In place was a casual set of clothes. He looked just like a hip (ughh) teenager.

"Register time." Ren said, looking at his watch, "Let's get going." He set a brisk walk to the front entrances building, only after calling a few medics to take care of the kids.

Ren reached the entrance to the school, letting Dimitri lead the way; the school's layout was uncharted territory for Ren. After following a complex pathway that was more like a maze, the two finally reached the registration office.

"Yo Dimitri!" Said the dean, "Who's this?" Looking curious at Ren, he kept on guard as Ren's face told of countless life and death battles.

"He's my bodyguard! Can you sign him up?" Dimitri beamed, "You might want to ready yourself, he's famous...." The dean giggled, shaking his head.

"You're such a joker! Anyways, what's your name sir?" He asked.

"Ren." Ren looked at the dean, no emotion in his eyes. The dean's head turned red like a beet, "Sir, either you're joking, or I heard wrong. What?"

"Ren." Ren said again, "Look, I'm Ren, I don't have any last name."

"Nah, you're joking. Ren is a hero, look, I know you have a complex or whatever..." He trailed off as Ren showed Kylo, "Nevermind, sir, please wait a moment. I have to make an I.D."

He walked into the back room. After a few moments, he came back with an I.D. for Ren. He stared weirdly at Ren but didn't say anything more.

"Thanks." Ren said, grabbing the card, and stowing it in his wallet, "Means a bit."

Dimitri stood back, leading Ren to his first class. "So, first up is homeroom."
