Chereads / The Gatekeeper / Chapter 4 - Wrong

Chapter 4 - Wrong

While I was sitting I started to imagine why the Emissary wanted me as an apprentice. I couldn't stop thinking about why, my mana capacity wasn't that great, my control of mana was lacking, and worst of all- I was still an Initiate at 13.

*sigh*

"Gother," A hollow voice called my name. It was the Emissary, he drifted into the chapel- he still had his attire on but this time he was carrying a black book. The book was glowing, it definitely was an artifact.

"Follow me." He said to me. I stood up and followed him out of the chapel. Outside was dark, but the moon and stars glowed brightly giving off a very pleasant atmosphere.

"The celestial bodies celebrate in my findings." The Emissary laughed. It was very eerie and unnerving.

"You truly are a gift to me." He says "Do you know how many years I searched, how much I have striven, and what I sacrificed!" He laughed again.

"But finally, I found you!"

"Your honor...what do you mean." I work up the courage to ask him.

"Let us not talk here" He raised his free hand and all of a sudden our surrounding weren't that of the chapel courtyards. The place we were at was the sky, on a mass of land that was floating in the sky.

"Let us go inside." the Emissary said as he gestured for me to follow him. He led me deep into the floating island, as we walked I saw a massive waterfall, but water wasn't pouring out.

"Yo...you...your honor is that mana." I mustered the courage to ask the Emissary if what I saw was real.

"Indeed it is, but let us not dwindle on such matter young man." He said dismissively. With that, we kept on moving. Up ahead I saw a massive castle, it was made out of stones and gears that moved and with each movement, the castle changed shapes.

"Young apprentice, welcome to your new home." The Emissary chortled.

"New home....but your honor, I...I...I am but an apprentice, I swore to the thr"

"No need for that." He interrupted me.

We entered the mysterious building, inside the building we were greeted with a wide space that was illuminated by a large golden orb that was floating up above.

"Listen well young apprentice." he faced me. "You are now under my tutelage, and you will obey every word from me." he continued "You have three rules that you are to follow while you are within this land." he raised his free had showing three finger.

"First - You are to never eat of any fruits you see on this land. All your food will be prepared for you.

Second - Everyday, drink this brew." he sternly told me as a small bottle materialized on his free hand, "This will be found on your study desk in your room." he then gave me the small bottle.

"Third - You must never remove the ring on your finger."

"What ring ri." I said as I looked down to my hands, on my right hand on the middle finger was a black ring with tiny golden engravings they moved in weird patterns.

"When," I whispered to myself.

"Now that you know the rules, I have another thing to add." He told me.

"The ring allows you to enter rooms that I have marked for you." The Emissary then waved his free hand all of a sudden black doors appeared from thin air. There were seven doors in total and each door had an oppressive aura to them. The Emissary then opened one of the black doors, it had a design of a lion drawn in white, he entered and I followed after him. Once we entered the room, the door behind disappeared. The room was mostly empty except for a bed and a desk with a chair. The Emissary placed the black book on the desk and pulled the chair away from the desk and sat down.

"Sit down." He says and points to the bed, I move to sit on the bed.

"Boy, what do you know of the mages?" He asked me

.

"The mages, they are...." I was about to answer his questions, but he interrupted me.

"All that you know of the mages, throw them aside and forget of them."
