Chapter 72 - It's ok to be scared

When DX heard her, he choked on the porridge and Kai Xin reached over to lightly pat him on the back.

He glanced up at her in disbelief while she merely shrugged and with an embarrassed look, she mouthed, "Oops?"

Clearing her throat, she turned to the twins, "Yeah...So, please don't ask me about my voice again. It's a sensitive issue."

The twins' jaws dropped when they heard that. Who is this guy?! Why was he touching their father so intimately? Why was their father looking at him in such a gross manner?!

DX quickly regained his composure and chided his sons for their lack of manners,

"Close your mouth. It is impolite to stare at people with your mouth open."

Jack pointed at Kai Xin and blurted out, "He said balls! At the dining table! Why aren't you scolding him?"

"Because I like him."

Lyle dropped the spoon he had just picked up and stared at his father with a dumbfounded look.

Speechless, Jack merely slumped back onto the seat.

Maybe it was a twin thing, but they both shared a thought, "What is wrong with dad today?!"

Lyle thought of something and took out his phone to Google about the party yesterday.

When he saw the picture of his father and Kai Xin kissing, he sputtered, "W-What's this?"

Hearing his brother's voice, Jack leaned over and when he saw the picture, he glared at Kai Xin, "What have you done to our President Du!"

"Don't speak that way to K, Jack."

Lyle realized what had happened and he angrily glared at Kai Xin, "YOU! You are the reason grandma stuck me with those girls for the rest of the month!"

She looked at them innocently as she took another bite, "I didn't do anything."

Pushing his chair back, Jack stood up, grabbed his brother's phone and shoved it in front of her, "Look at this! Why are you kissing my father!"

Then he turned to DX and asked angrily, "Why are you kissing a man! I thought you are courting the woman who is to be our future mother?"

This time, it was Kai Xin's turn to choke. When DX reached over to pat her back, she glanced at him angrily as she mouthed, "What the hell!"

What did he tell the twins? She had not agreed to anything yet!

DX pretended not to know what she was mouthing about as he turned to his son and in a serious manner, he placed his utensils down and said,

"Jack, should I send you to your grandmother for another class in manners and etiquette?"

Jack shuddered and quickly shook his head before sitting back down quietly.

He would rather die than go through another session of those classes. He barely made it through the last round.

Once he saw Kai Xin placed her spoon down, DX asked softly, "Are you done with lunch now?"

"Yeah."

Purposely ignoring the confused and angry looks on his boys, he took her by the hand and led her back into the mansion.

Glancing back at the twins before they entered the mansion, Kai Xin mumbled, "You know, people are going to gossip..."

DX scoffed, "I think people already started to gossip when a certain man stole a kiss from me yesterday. How are you going to compensate me?"

Kai Xin blushed, "I-It was the wine!"

DX tousled her hair before leaning down to tease her by saying, "I like it when Young Master K kiss me in public. Let's do it again."

She rolled her eyes and pushed him into the mansion.

Since they just ate, they sat down on the couch to rest while waiting for the food to settle.

As he went through some of his paperwork, Kai Xin went through her emails as well.

Once she was done replying to her clients, she leaned against him, "He looks more like a twin now..."

With his eyes still glued to his work, DX replied, "In terms of his physical growth, the doctor said that his height and weight had surpassed Jack."

....

Little Lyle had refused to eat properly when he first came home. He was scared of everyone and he basically spent most of his days on his father's arms.

DX had been so worried about him starving that he took Little Lyle along with him everywhere, even to the meetings.

At first, Little Jack was understanding about the matter.

His grandma and Old Mo had explained to him and told him to be patient. He knew that his brother was scared.

However, after a while, he started to feel jealous of the attention that DX was paying to Little Lyle.

Once, during dinner, when DX went out to take a call, Little Jack had stuck his tongue out and made funny faces at Little Lyle to taunt him.

He wanted Little Lyle to talk to him but the latter never spoke a word to him.

No matter what he did, Little Lyle would just stare at him blankly. Angered, he took a slice of apple from his plate and threw it at Little Lyle.

When the latter still stared at him blankly, he took a few more slices and threw it at him. Old Mo tried to stop him but he was afraid of hurting the young master.

When their father came back and saw what Little Jack was doing, he scolded him as he picked up his eldest, "Jack! That was naughty of you! How can you throw food at Lyle?"

Feeling wronged, Little Jack started wailing, "Daddy bad! Daddy bad! Lyle bad! Lyle bad!"

When he heard Jack's accusation, Little Lyle trembled and he grabbed DX's shirt tightly as he kept whispering, "Lyle not bad...Lyle not bad...Don't hit Lyle..."

DX glanced down and saw the big fat tears falling from the little one in his arms. He patted Lyle's back as he comforted him, "Lyle's not a bad boy. Jack is wrong. Lyle is a good boy."

Little Lyle looked up at his father and with his teary eyes, he pleaded, "Don't hit Lyle... Lyle is good."

DX closed his eyes to calm himself down. He knew what they did to Lyle.

When he found Lyle, not only was he severely underweight, the boy's body was covered in scars and caned marks.

Even though the physical scars were gone, the memories were there and Lyle could still remember everything.

DX told himself that there was no point in getting angry. What's done is done and the most important thing was to get Lyle to open up.

He told Old Mo to take care of Little Jack as he carried Little Lyle out to the garden and sat with him on the swing.

He waited until Little Lyle stopped crying before saying,

"Lyle, Jack did not mean to hurt you."

Little Lyle just looked up at him without any response. DX gently patted his back as he explained, "Lyle, Jack just wants to talk to you. He misses you, his big brother."

When Little Lyle frowned, DX continued, "Yes, big brother. Do you remember? Jack said that you would always give him candy when he cried."

Little Lyle cocked his head as he searched through his memory bank. He seemed to recall giving a half-eaten candy to a smaller, dirtier looking Little Jack.

DX glanced down and chuckled when he saw the tiny lines forming on Little Lyle's head as he tried to remember.

When the little one nodded, DX continued, "Jack misses his brother. He wants his big brother back."

"Lyle is big brother..." Little Lyle said, pointing to himself, seemingly in awe.

He had always thought that Jack was older since he was bigger and stronger than him. Since Daddy said so, then it must be true.

"Yes, Lyle is the big brother."

Little Lyle suddenly looked sad as he glanced down at his tiny fingers and mumbled, "But Lyle is scare...Big brother don't get scare."

"It's ok to be scared." When Little Lyle looked up to him, DX continued, "Daddy gets scared too."

"Really?"

DX nodded, "When Daddy found out that Lyle was in danger, I don't know what to do. I was so scared that I would lose you."

Little Lyle placed his tiny hands on his father's cheek, "Daddy save Lyle...with Mummy."
