The young man froze when he heard that name. It took him a while before he replied, "Shangguan Xing. The Police Commissioner's son?"
Rin nodded as she continued, "Father had been thinking of getting a political ally for years. Shangguan Re Dong had actually asked for me but my sister cannot bear it so she volunteered to take over my place."
Looking at her feet, Rin gripped onto the dark blue Burberry shawl that she was wearing over her light blue dress as she said softly, "This is all my fault…"
"No, it is not." Naomi scolded her gently.
The young man cocked his head to one side as he asked, "Can't you just say no?"
"Young Master K must have parents who cares about you. For girls like us, while we have the best of everything, we never have a choice. Responsibility towards the family comes first before anything else."
The young man looked at her and his heart ached for this woman. Of all the men in the world, she had to be engaged to a sick bastard. When he saw President Du appearing at the stairs to greet the guests again, an idea struck him.
Looking at Naomi and Rin, he asked, "If I can help you get out of the marriage, what can you do for me?"
Rin and Naomi exchanged glances. Before Naomi can stop her, Rin excitedly asked, "If you can do it, I will do anything for you!"
Naomi immediately pulled her sister back, "Rin! Never make promises like that!"
The young man laughed, "Don't worry. I won't ask you to do anything hideous. Thank you, Rin Nakamura. Let's shake on it."
Rin ignored her sister and took his hand. Naomi was more careful. Even though this man appeared friendly, she knew that behind every smile, there lays a dagger.
Naomi realized something was amiss and asked, "How did you know our full names?"
K gave her a sly look and said cryptically, "I know what I have to know."
Rin was less careful. If there is a way to get her sister out of the marriage, she would agree to anything. Having known that there is a possibility, she asked excitedly, "How would you dissolve the marriage agreement?"
The young man winked at her, "Don't you worry about it."
From the top of the stairs, Old Mo announced that the party is about to begin and everyone started making their ways into the garden. As they were walking in, K told Naomi, "Not only would I help you with the dissolvement of the marriage, I will also grant you a wish."
Naomi looked at him curiously, "A wish?"
"Think of me as your fairy god-brother." K smiled as he took both the ladies hand and led them towards the garden. "I can grant you a dance with anyone you want."
At the end of the sentence, he pointed his chin at the direction of President Du who was giving a speech at the front.
Naomi gasped, "No way. There is no way you would be able to get him to dance with me! President Du does not like strangers!"
"Trust me."
"What's the condition?" Naomi asked suspiciously.
K maintained his smile and with a sad tone, he admitted, "There would be no other condition but I'm afraid that this would be your one and only dance with him."
Even though they barely knew each other, K can tell that the Nakamura sisters were both kind people. So, he wanted to do whatever he can for them.
Naomi thought about it for a moment before agreeing, "He'd never like someone like me. If you actually managed to get him to dance with me, I would be thankful with just this memory alone"
K nodded.
"How are you going to do that?" Rin asked curiously as she watched Song Qiao standing right beside President Du, "Especially with her there."
"A sage has his own ways of doing things." K laughed and walked away with his fingers interlocked behind his back.
