"What?" He mouthed when she did not say anything after a long while.
Out of nowhere, she asked, "Why are you not fat?"
He was taken aback by the random question and after a second of silence, he laughed.
"Would you like me to be fat?"
A yawn caught her when she was thinking about his question. As she rubbed her eyes to get rid of the drowsiness, she said in a drowsy voice, "Not really. I like you like this."
He chuckled, "Thank you for your compliment." He stole a quick kiss from her lips before lying back down and enveloping her into his embrace, "Honestly, I thought of letting go. It was hard to maintain my figure when I was pulling in long hours."
"Why didn't you?" she asked as she nuzzled against him.
He smiled sadly as he explained, "I am from the founding family of a major international conglomerate. I cannot look soft and cuddly, appearance or otherwise."
He looked at her for a moment before saying, "Another reason is because I don't want to wait any longer when the right woman comes along. I want to sweep her up and marry her immediately."
After a moment of silence, she whispered, "Have you found the right woman?"
"Yeah, but she kept rejecting my advance." He said softly, his eyes forlorn as if he was hurt.
She looked downcasted as she replied, "Maybe she's afraid that you would find her inadequate."
"Never." He reassured her. With a husky voice, he added, "I'm willing to wait for her."
She drew circles on his chest and thought about what to say to him. After a while, she asked with all the seriousness she can summoned, "Since it is our 'second date' do you want to exchange a secret?"
"I already knew you are dating a gorgeous 40 year old man." He teased her and it successfully gotten a smile out of her serious face.
To avoid getting sidetracked, she quickly turned the smile back into a scowling face. "I'm serious."
He thought about it for a while before counter-proposing. "Alright, let's exchange one, but only if you tell me a secret that you have never told anyone."
She thought about it for a second before nodding in agreement.
Pleased with her decision, he agreed to be the first to start.
He placed an arm behind his head, and with the other holding her, he started.
"My father, he was a great man. He loved me and spoilt me senselessly. He listened to everything my grandparents said. He exceeded everyone's expectations and expanded the fortune of the Du Family beyond what was deemed possible during his time..."
He sighed while absent-mindedly stroking her arm, "But he was not a good husband."
Kai Xin looked up to him. This was the first time he talked about his father. Seeing his sad face, she kissed him gently on the chest as he continued.
"My parents' had a marriage of convenience. The Du Family was having trouble expanding and at the same time, we have an internal strife where the branch family is attempting to take over Du Corporations. My grandparents knew that in order to keep the company, we needed stronger political backups and they set their eyes on the political Ye Family who needed the financial assistance to help with their campagins."
"So, my grandparents forced my parents together. My father was understanding. He knew that my mother had no choice. She was barely 18 when her parents forced her to marry a man that she barely knew anything about. Thus, he always treated her kindly. Whatever she wanted, he would give it to her. My mother eventually fell in love with him..."
He squeezed her shoulder for comfort, "...but he never returned her feelings. He had someone in his heart. A person that he loved yet destined to forever be apart. When that person died, my father was devastated. He found that person's orphaned child and took him in."
DX thought about the expression that he often saw on his father's face. Du Jin carried around a huge burden and he would often portray himself as a cold and callous person. However, whenever he was at home, he had this melancholy look on his face. It was as if he was thinking about someone that was very dear to him.
Kai Xin knew who the child DX was talking about. His only sworn brother. "Callum."
He nodded, "Callum thought that my father was in love with his mother who passed away when he was young. What he didn't know was that my father was actually in love with his father, and that Uncle Shenlong was the only person my father ever loved. But, despite his feelings, my father chose his responsibility towards the Du Family over the man he loved."
He closed his eyes as he thought about his parents for a while before continuing his story.
"Growing up, I often saw the longing and desperation in my mother's face and the sadness in my father's. I don't want to be like them. My wife must be someone I very much love and cherish. When my father passed away, I swore that I would do everything I could to strengthen the Du Family's empire so that I won't have to marry anyone for their power or their money."
"You achieved it."
He nodded, "From the time I first met you, I have been working even harder so that no one can ever shake my position because of the woman I love."
