While she was on the way back from AVENGE, Kai Xin thought about her first meeting with Ghost 10 years ago.
At that time, she had been feeling incredibly lost. It was the first anniversary since she made the hardest and cruelest decision in her life.
Unable to take the pressure of her own guilt, she had lashed out at her mother and ran away from home. She had no direction and no will to live.
All she had was anger, pain, and an indescribable feeling of despair, like the entire world was plotting against her and laughing and pointing their fingers at her.
Filled with so much negative emotions, it was hard to breath at times. Nightmares haunted her when she closed her eyes and she was unable to get a full night of sleep.
Her chest hurt everytime she thought about what she had lost and what was taken away from her.
Lost in her thoughts, she had been walking aimlessly for hours and by the time she realized it, she was standing dangerously on the ledge of a bridge.
She heard the cars driving past from behind her. The wind generated by their movement threatened to push her over.
As she was looking down at the river, thinking whether or not she should just end the endless torture, she heard the noise of a can being popped opened.
'Pop! '
When she looked to her left, she saw a boy so beautiful that she was unsure if he is a human or a genie who came for her life.
Laughing inwardly, she thought, "It should be a Death God who comes for me... not a pretty boy."
She glanced at the boy who appeared to be not much older than her, drinking a can of beer while staring straight ahead. His dark greyish hair was messed up by the wind but that only served to enhance his beauty in a wild manner.
"His eyes..." Kai Xin thought they were intriguing. She had never met anyone with such eyes. They were of different colors. One black and one appeared to be...grey?
His mismatched eyes held a familiar gaze. It was the same look that stared back at her every morning from the mirror. It was the look of someone who held terrible sorrow and terribly painful secrets.
He glanced at her and after a second, he passed the beer over, "Have some."
She stared at the beer that was offered for a minute before accepting it. She took a deep breathe before drinking everything in one shot.
"Urgh," She stuck her tongue out and complaint, "This is so gross."
He laughed, and Kai Xin thought that his laughter sounded angelic.
Confused at what it could be that he found funny, she asked, "What are you laughing at?"
"Didn't your parents taught you not to take things from stranger?"
She looked down at the river. With the bravery provided by the alcohol, she muttered, "It's not like I have not suffered before."
It was the first time that she had admitted to anyone that something bad had happened to her.
He looked down and whistled. Then he said calmly, "Are you thinking about jumping? The water looks cold. There could be crocodile in there."
Kai Xin did not reply him.
"Do you think everything would end by jumping, Zhen Kai Xin?"
Upon hearing her name, Kai Xin turned to look at him. She had never met him before and she knew she did not tell him anything about herself.
Afraid that he might be sent by someone, she moved away from him slowly and got dangerously close to the edge.
He raised a brow and said, "If you move any further, you would fall."
She glared at him, "Who are you?"
"My name is not important." He stretched and yawned before turning to face her again. With a stern look, he said, "If you jump now, that's it. The living would twist the words, and the dead can never defend themselves."
Tears welled up in her eyes, she snapped, "Then what can i do?! Living or dead, I am powerless!"
She wiped off her tears. "Every time I closed my eyes, all I can see is what happened back then! I want to forget about it and move on, but it's so hard! HOW CAN I FORGET ABOUT IT WHEN I KEEP SEEING IT?!!"
