At 40 years old, this would be the first time DX had voluntarily went to meet someone's parents. He had never cared much about the other girls much less their parents.
They were mostly nuisance, flies who merely sucked up to him.
Up until now, his mother had to resort to various methods to get him to appear for a meeting with a prospective Mrs. Du.
Her methods ranged from coaxing and blackmailing to kidnapping. Thankfully, with the arrival of the twins, she no longer interferes with his love life. After all, the heir and the spare are already in existence.
"Brrrrrinnnnggg…."
DX rang the bell twice. He had to do this properly. Kai Xin was not like the others. After all, the little minx loved her mother dearly and her mother's opinion of him mattered most to her.
As he waited, he checked his reflection using his phone to make sure that his appearance was nothing less than proper. Call him vain, but first impression matters.
The door creaked and out came an older woman with warm brown hair that curled up at the end. Other than the crows feet that was radiating outwards from her tired looking eyes, one would be hard pressed to believe that this woman was nearing 60 years of age.
If DX had met her outside, he would have guessed her age to be around the late forties. He was impressed with how this woman managed to care for herself while raising two children.
After all, he had heard enough stories from Kai Xin to know that the woman standing before him did everything by herself and has never once asked for help or rely on anyone.
An Qi Yan frowned when she saw a ruggedly handsome stranger standing in front of her with a bouquet of roses with the deepest shades of red that she has ever seen in his hands.
From the way he stood with his back straight and with his determined eyes, all while wearing the darkest than dark three piece suit that probably cost thousands of dollars, she could tell that the man standing in front of her came with a purpose and that he did not lose his way.
Somehow, she has a bad premonition about this.
"Who are you looking for?" She asked gruffly as she looked down at the bouquet curiously before looking up again.
He was surprised by the tone of her voice as he was told that she was an amiable person.
"Ms. An, I believe that this is the first time we have met."
He held out his hand but she merely raised an eyebrow. From her demeanor, he could tell that she had no intention of shaking it. Taking back his hand, DX smiled as he thought to himself, "They are so alike!"
When he noticed that the woman standing there was glaring at him impatiently, he quickly cleared his throat and clarified, "My name is Du XiAn. I'm here for your daughter, Kai Xin."
She frowned and looked at him as if he was nothing but a pesky fly, "I know who you are talking about. I only have one daughter, but why are you here for her?"
"I would like to take her out on a date, and I'm here for your permission."
"Mum! Why are you standing at the door for so long?" Kai Xin's towel bandaged head appeared from behind her mum.
When she saw her lover standing there and acting all innocently, as if he had not just gave her a heart attack, she gasped.
Silently, she cursed at him, "That idiot! I told him to wait downstairs! How am I supposed to explain this?!"
Panicked, she pulled her mum back and slammed the door in his face. DX merely chuckled at her flustered action as he stood there waiting for the door to open again.
Meanwhile, behind the door, An Qi Yan calmly turned to face her daughter as she waited for her to give her a satisfactory explanation pertaining to the middle aged man standing outside the door right now.
"Erm…..." Under her mum's intense gaze, she suddenly felt like an 8 year old again. Her eyes were darting left and right as she tried to think of something to say.
"You told me you are going out with a friend."
"He's a friend...?"
"He said he's here to take you out on a date." An Qi Yan narrowed her eyes at her daughter as she folded her arms together.
"Erm, yeah. A friend-friend sort of date."
"He has a bouquet of flowers."
"I saw that."
"How long has this been going on?"
Kai Xin scratched her nose before sighing. There was no escaping her mother's sharp eyes. "A while."
"When were you going to tell me you had a boyfriend?"
"He's not...my boyfriend."
The older woman opened the door and asked directly, without an ounce of shame, "What's your plan with my daughter?"
