When Jack came back from practice, he saw Quinn lying down in the garden with Kai Xin and DX watching over her nearby while having their afternoon tea.
He wanted to bother Quinn and he tried to tiptoe over to give her a jump fright. However, before he can jump on her, DX warned him with a glare.
"Tsk!" tutted Jack. He then sat next to his father as the three of them watched over Quinn, "What happened to him?"
Placing his coffee down, DX explained, "He was upset about something. Don't bother him."
Feeling bad about his earlier intention, Jack took a piece of candy out of his pocket and walked towards Quinn.
"You alright?"
Quinn squinted her eyes at him. When she realized that it was Jack, she turned away and gruffly said, "Go away..."
He sat down next to her and offered her the candy, "For you. Cheer up. You are a man. You cannot simply get upset. It can't be that bad."
She glanced at DX before turning back to Jack. Pushing the candy away, she cried,
"What do you know... You have a dad with you."
Jack picked up the candy that was dropped and said, "I don't know what happened with you, but I don't always have a dad."
His revelation captured her attention and she sat up to listen to him.
"For the first 5 years of my life, I thought my dad abandoned us. That's what our mother told us."
"But you have Godfather now..." sniffed Quinn before glancing down at her fingers and continued, "...and I'm right! And my dad doesn't want to admit that he's my dad."
"Did you meet him earlier?"
She sobbed, "He talked to me and laughed with me, but he did not seem to want to admit that he's my father."
Playing with the grass, she said sadly, "He must be embarrassed by me."
"What did your mother told you about him?"
She paused for a second before replying him, "That my dad loves me very much but for my sake, he had to stay away."
Jack smiled and wiped her tears away, "Then she's probably right. He probably stayed away for your sake."
When she heard that, she sobbed again, "Why can't he be with us? Daddy, me, Mummy and Mama. We can be a happy family!"
Jack exchanged glances with his father for a second before answering her,
"Adults have their own problems just like we have ours. Who knows what was in their mind. I don't know why your dad chose to stay away..."
He shrugged before continuing, "...just like how I don't know why my mother can be cruel enough to sell Lyle to bad people."
Quinn gasped, "She did?"
"Yeah. A long time ago. But dad saved him," answered Jack sadly as he thought of his mother's cruel actions.
Being separated from his older twin was the worst year of his life.
Since there was no record of their birth, everyone told him that Lyle was his own imagination.
Even his mother lied to him and said that he was dreaming about his brother.
Only his father, who had just known him for a few months then, believed him and searched the world for Lyle.
Jack smirked as he patted Quinn's back,
"Since your mummy told you that your father loves you very much despite your brattiness, I'm sure he does. You should believe that he did whatever he did to protect you."
Quinn glared at the subtle insult in his comfort and pushed his hand away.
"How do you know that? How can you be sure?" sighed Quinn.
She grabbed a strand of her white hair and murmured sadly, "Maybe he left because I have a defect."
Jack thought about it before admitting, "I can't be sure about it."
He took her hand and placed the candy in her little palm, "He treated you kindly earlier, didn't he?"
When she recalled their conversation earlier, Quinn finally smiled, "He said I'm beautiful."
Jack frowned, "Odd choice of description for a boy, but to him, he probably believes that you are beautiful. Don't think too much over it now. Just pester Aunt Layla over it when she comes and pick you up."
Quinn thought over his words. He was right. There was no point thinking over it now.
No matter how upset she was, the person with the answer was not here.
To Jack's horror, she wiped her tears and snots away on his sleeves, "Fine."
Dusting herself up, she ran to Kai Xin and hugged her, "Godfather, Godpapa! I'm feeling better now. "
To DX, she whispered, "Your stupid son can be nice sometimes."
DX raised an eyebrow at her description of his youngest beloved son.
Then as he glanced at his son who was frowning in disgust at the snot on his sleeve, he thought,
"Yeah, he can be a little stupid sometimes."
....
It was peaceful for about 30 minutes before they started arguing again.
No one knew what was the trigger but they just started shouting and throwing the snacks around before rolling on the ground.
Kai Xin laughed as she watched DX trying to separate those two energetic kids who were going for each other's throats.
In the end, both of them were exhausted and fell asleep on the grass.
The moment they fell asleep, DX sat down on the grass and murmured to himself, "Daughters...Just daughters... No more sons...I can't deal with this everyday."
Kai Xin heard him and laughed.
She sat down in his laps and said, "Quinn is a girl you know."
"And she's cuter than my boys. Even when she was shouting her lungs out. We will have girls."
Without saying anything, she leaned back against him.
As a child, this was what she wanted.
If things had gone as planned, by thirty, she would have at least two children. If that had not happened...
She shook her head to get the thought out.
Today was a great day and she refused to let her memories destroy the rest of the day.
The low rumblings from the sky indicated that a thunderstorm would be arriving soon.
The adults quickly prepared to go back into the mansion.
DX picked up Jack and asked Kai Xin to pick up the lighter Quinn.
As they were about to ascend the stairs, DX asked Old Mo who was directing the servants,
"Where is Lyle?"
"Young Master Lyle came back an hour ago. He said he was tired and went to bed."
DX turned to Kai Xin and explained, "Maybe it was because of the trauma, he often felt tired during days with thunderstorms."
Kai Xin nodded in understanding, "Should we placed the children in the other rooms?"
DX thought about it and agreed, "Give Quinn to me. I'll put them in the West playroom. It's warmer there and it has the best soundproofing. Please help me check on Lyle."
Also, it was furthest from his room.
Without suspecting anything, Kai Xin carefully placed Quinn in his arms before running towards the twins' room.
Old Mo who heard DX knew exactly what was in his mind.
He sighed at the fact that the perfect man that he helped to raise since birth now had nothing but perverted thoughts in his mind.
