Chapter 117 - I took his first kiss

Kai Xin sat up as she listened intently to the childhood story of DX.

He barely talked about his childhood. Then again, she barely talked about hers either.

"So, did he succeed? What did he do after that?"

Layla grinned, "That idiot joined the club and practiced daily. Every first week of the month, he would challenge to a sparring contest. Obviously, I can't let him win so I kept practicing hard as well."

Kai Xin asked, "Did he win in the end?"

Layla frowned, "Hey, you traitor! I'm your mentor. Do you really want to see me lose?"

Kai Xin glanced down sheepishly.

Sighing, Layla said, "He won when we were fifteen. But that was after five broken bones and two fractured arms."

Kai Xin winced when she heard the pain that DX went through to win against Layla, "Can't you be softer against him?"

Layla grinned. Her little protege had definitely fallen for her stupid friend.

"Hey, even though he is the heir of the Du Family, I'm also the heir of the Rong Family. I have my family's reputation to protect."

Kai Xin rested her head on the pillow before saying, "It is surprising how you guys managed to be friends."

"Right?" asked Layla, "At first, I only thought of him as this annoying and short little bugger, but over time, I realized that despite his bossy nature, he was quite a nice guy."

Turning to Kai Xin, she asked excitedly, "How was his kissing skill now? Is it still sloppy and wet?"

Kai Xin blushed and she turned away, "I don't want to-"

Then she glanced at Layla and asked, "Why would you ask that? Did you..."

She realized that she spoke too much and after a moment of silence, Layla shrugged, "Guilty. I took his first kiss."

Somehow, Kai Xin felt a pang of jealousy when she heard that.

"What?"

When she saw the look on her protege, Layla raised her arms and said, "Nothing else happened after that. I swear. It was just a teenage kiss."

Kai Xin looked at her with a look of disbelief but the thing happened a long time ago, so there was no reason to think too much into it.

They chat for about an hour more before Kai Xin called it a day.

....

Late that night, when everyone else had been asleep, a black Lexus SUV arrived at the driveway of the orphanage.

A man dressed in a suit stepped out from the car.

"President Du," Han Ye came out of the car, "Do you still need me here?"

"No. Pick me up in the morning."

Glancing at the orphanage, he asked, "Are you sure you don't want to stay at a hotel? It would be more comfortable."

"She's probably asleep. There's no point moving her around now. Go."

Han Ye nodded and got back into the car.

Once he drove off, DX walked around the compound of the orphanage.

When Layla told him that Kai Xin and her would be staying at Zi Han's Orphanage, he remembered that Kai Xin spoke of the name before.

He thought that it was a coincidence, but decided to check it out anyway.

Furthermore, he did not trust Layla and her big mouth. Only God knows what she would be saying to Kai Xin!

Once he circled the compound, he ended up standing near the maple trees.

Just as he was about to knock on the backdoor, a movement near the trees caught his attention.

DX turned and saw a little boy playing around underneath the biggest tree with a red ribbon tied around its trunk.

When the boy saw him, he skipped over and asked cheerfully, "What are you doing here?"

DX ignored his questions and asked with a serious tone, "It's almost 2 am now. Why are you not in bed?"

The boy smiled as he replied, "I couldn't sleep. The moon is too bright and beautiful today."

DX looked up at the moon and he agreed with him. It was indeed bright and beautiful today.

The boy glanced up at him and asked again "So, what are you doing here?"

Still ignoring his questions, DX scolded, "You shouldn't be talking to strangers."

"But they can't hurt me anymore."

DX frowned, "What?"

The boy shrugged. He took DX's sleeves and pointed at the trapdoor that would lead them into the basement, "Here."

When DX looked at him, the boy explained, "The door here is unlocked. You can go into the main house through here."

DX frowned. He was frustrated with this child's lack of awareness.

With a tough voice, he scolded him, "You should not tell strangers about all this. What if they are bad guys and kidnap you and your friends?"

The boy pouted and looked down at his shoes, "Are you a bad guy, sir?"

"No, but..."

"You are here for the pretty lady right?"

"Do you know which room she's in?"

The boy nodded, "First floor. Second room from the right."
