When Jenny woke up, she found the courage to tell Layla and Kai Xin what actually happened on the day of accident.
While the rest were having dinner with the occupants of the orphanage, Layla took the opportunity to call Inspector Ding, the inspector in charge of the case to come over to record the statement.
They locked themselves in Jenny's room so that they could have some privacy.
With Layla and Kai Xin there for the moral support, Jenny started talking.
"Mum had followed the traffic rules. She would never speed or jumped the traffic lights when I am in the car..."
Similarly, on the day of the accident, she had been driving carefully.
"I remember seeing the lights turned green right after a car passed by us. Mum started to drive out of the intersection when another car came out of nowhere and bumped us..."
Jenny frowned as she recalled back, "...i screamed so hard when the car went spinning..."
"I saw him," said Jenny. She was badly injured when the car landed upside down but she recalled being conscious and crying for her mother.
Clenching the bottom of her dress, she bit her lower lips for a while before continuing,
"He came down to check on the car, and..I-I think he didn't see me in the backseat. I heard him talking to someone."
She took a deep breath as tears started to well up again, "He said that he made a minor boo-boo and told the person to send over a car and to settle it as soon as possible."
Layla and Kai Xin exchanged glances before the former pulled out a series of photo depicting different but similar looking men and placed it in front of Jenny,
"Do you recognize him from here?" asked Layla.
Jenny nodded and pointed to the photo of a blonde young man, "It's him. I recognize him..."
Pointing to her left temple, she said, "He was bleeding here. I think he was cut by the glasses."
Turning to Kai Xin, she asked, "D-Did I do well?"
Kai Xin nodded and patted her head, "You did great. We will get definitely get him."
Layla smiled and said, "Kai Xin, can you bring Jenny out first? I need to have a talk with Inspector Ding."
Kai Xin looked at the inspector before she pushed Jenny out of the room.
Once the door was closed, Layla turned to face the inspector.
With a poker face and her legs crossed, she said bluntly, "I believe that the people from the Liu Family have given you a visit."
Inspector Ding gulped as he thought worriedly, "How could she have known? She wasn't back in country yet."
Glancing at his expression, she chuckled softly, "You must have wondered how I know since I just got back to the country."
Pulling out her phone, she sent a series of photos to the man sitting opposite her.
The photos showed the meeting between the man and the secretary of the patriarch of Liu Family, and one of the photos showed him receiving a suspiciously thick envelope.
He stammered as he went through the photos, "T-that w-was not money..."
Layla glared at him, "I did not say that it was money."
Wide eyed with fear of his reputation being destroyed, he asked fearfully, "W-What do you want?"
Layla looked at the pathetic man in front of him, "I want you to keep what you find out today a secret until I call you as witnesses."
"I-I..."
"I can end your entire career faster than the Liu Family," threatened Layla.
She knew that reputation meant everything for this kind of man.
Layla pressed on, "With what happened to Shangguan Re Dong, I'm sure the people would like to clean up the legal force. "
"I can't go against the Liu Family."
"And you think you can go against the Rong Family?"
Inspector Ding wiped away his sweat as he thought hard. There was no way out of this!
Layla felt bad for the man who was sweating like a pig and she offered him a way out,
"Find an excuse to hand this case and the investigation over to Inspector Yu Jian Hao."
When Inspector Ding heard that, he agreed immediately.
As long as he did not have to deal with either the Liu or the Rong, he would be glad to handover anything.
Before he left, Layla warned him, "Inspector Ding, the truth will always prevail."
