Chapter 21 - Forbidden Ability: Event Strings Tugging

-Forbidden Ability: Event Strings Tugging-

"Martial Technique?" Jiang Jie wondered after seeing these old men getting excited when they talked about bronze level martial technique and how long it would take them to reach something called minor success. He knew what are those from Old monster and Jiang Chao's memories. But what they knew was a sharp contrast to each other, it's like, if Jiang Chao's knowledge about martial technique could be compiled into a book of 12 pages, then even 1 TB of HDD won't be enough to store Old monster's experience.

It made him confuse.

"That illusion of moon, it's just a compilation of kinetic energy, mass, and gravity mixed in an odd ratio. Its powerful no doubt, but is there a reason for them to create a moon illusion? Its just plain waste of psions." Jiang Jie already deduced the essence of the technique used by Jiang Tao. With just a casual look, he concluded what others would take decades to find. If the powerhouses of the world know about this, they sure would desire to end their life by chocking on their own saliva.

Sitting beside him, Hou'er who was absorbed into the fight taking place, turned her head towards Jie and looked at him with her big watery eyes, wondering what he just spoke. Shaking his head, Jie signaled her towards the virtual screen with his chin. Nodding her head, she returned to her 'show.'

Waiting to see what this so-called martial technique could do, Jie stopped useless thinking and returned his eyes at the screen.

Back in the hall, the moon had already appeared in front of Fang ZhiLing, casting its silvery glow above her face and body, accentuating her beauty even more. At that time, everyone had an illusion of seeing a light fairy looking at the moon.

When the moon was just a few centimeters away from her, she moved. Raising her left hand, she created a semicircle arc anticlockwise, and with her right hand another semicircle clockwise. White lines created when her hands moved and when the arch formed by her left hand connected with the one created by the right hand, a transparent mirror appeared within the now full circle.

It took just a scant of second to create the mirror, and the moon just appeared when the mirror finished its formation. Without any resistance, the moon entered the mirror, creating ripples on the surface, like how a stone creates ripples when entering to a pool of water. In front of everyone's astonished eye, the 'moon' fully absorbed into the mirror created by her. Not even Jiang Tao understood what happened.

Although he didn't use his full strength, it still contained more than 60% of his total qi. How can the attack he spent countless hours of blood and tears to master, just vanish like that? Widening his eye, which now turned red from both surprise and despair, he looked at the ever-cold girl that didn't show a single emotion. Its as if blocking his attack was just as natural as breathing for her.

But he wasn't given enough time to lament, as the 'moon' that just entered into the mirror, suddenly came out towards him with speed double of last time. Before he could make heads or tails of everything, the moon appeared in front of him and slammed directly to his chest.

"Guha!!" making a weird noise, he sent back flying by the power of his own attack and fell to the ground a few meters away from where he was standing. The sword in his hand sent flying as it circled in the air before falling a down near Tao's head. Tao spun in midair a few round and fell down. Froth came from his mouth, even before he landed, as his eyes rolled back. He was unconscious.

ZhiLing spared one last glance at her defeated opponent before turning around and walk back to her seat. The moment she defeated her opponent, nobody saw Yun LingLing nodding her head at the display of ZhiLing's power.

The whole hallway was so silent that, one could hear a bee buzzing somewhere. Jiang Tao, obviously the most talented one among all Jiang clan disciples, who had reached the 1st level of Soul Tempering layer, was defeated in just a few seconds! That too with his own attack?

"Wow! As expected of our young lady."

"God bless young lady. Hmph! A toad aiming to eat swan meat, overestimating oneself. He deserved what he got!"

"In just one move! Our lady had grown even stronger than before."

"Isn't that technique is the same one Elder Yun gave her before she left last month? She had already reached such a level in just 27 days?"

"Genius! She is an absolute genius!" all the Fang clan members cheered, with some discussing her skills. Especially the last person, who purposefully said the number of days ZhiLing spent to master this skill.

Contrary to the jubilant Fang family, the Jiang family elders were making a face like they just ate a bitter gourd. Not only a genius of their family was defeated in one move, but the move was also his own. How embarrassing was that? They just wanted to find a hole and bury themselves inside. A few also felt anger and indignation at the talent of the small girl, giving birth to some less than savory thoughts in their mind.

The fight was so quick that even though Fang family patriarch felt it was good, he still couldn't say anything. He just sat silently while stroking his beard. On the contrary, the Jiang family patriarch just sighed and looked like he had aged a few years in an instant.

Back in his room, Jiang Jie smirked as he looked at the defeated Tao. His eyes were glowing as he savored at the defeat of his enemy. He wasn't Chao, why should he take the crap from these people. Back when Tao came to his room and threw his weight around, Jiang Jie already marked him as a target of revenge.

It has to be known that even if one's comprehension taken was beyond godly, without proper knowledge and enough practice, one couldn't master a bronze level martial technique in just 27 days. Then how did ZhiLing do it? Is her talent beyond godly?

No! of course not. It only happened because, when Zhi Ling started to cultivate, she coincidentally entered into a sense of selflessness, where she mastered this skill given to her by Elder Yun. This matter was known only to a few people, namely Elder Yun, Zhi Ling's grandfather, and Yun LingLing. This sense of selflessness had another term, ist called enlightenment.

Enlightenment was something that couldn't be sought after, it could only happen coincidentally.

Back then, when Jie marked Tao as a target of revenge, he had already changed his fate. Life is a game with multiple endings, spurred by one's choices. Each and every choice one does, no matter how minuscule it was, affect the future. Taking parallel theory into account, in infinite possibilities, there were unlimited results.

When Tao intruded upon him and insulted him, Jie used his power to calculate more than a million possibilities out of unlimited ones. Among them, he found one of the worst possible outcomes and linked Tao's fate into that one possibility.

Although nobody can see it, a person is connected to his past and his seemingly infinite future through a thin string. Jie called this [Event String]. In the various religious text, people called this string as [String of Fate].

All he did was tugged on Tao's [Event String] pulling him towards one of the worst possible outcomes. And the rest happened itself. The final result was that Tao was defeated by his own attack, in just a few seconds. Of even if Jie hadn't interfered, Tao would still have been defeated, only it wouldn't be so miserable. In fact, there was also a slight possibility of him wooing the young girl, who couldn't help but fall for the valiance of Tao.

Unfortunately, he had to go and piss off Jie, who could be called a God-like entity.

Of course, this move of Jie came with a price. He couldn't use this particular [Event Strings] ability for the rest of the month. And if he uses it by force, he would experience a backlash. Messing with the universe would always come with a price, even the so-called gods and primordials were not barred from this rule.

Jie had marked it as one of his top 5 forbidden ability. From his birth to now, it would be his 3rd time using it. For sounding more cool, he named it;

Forbidden Ability: Event Strings Tugging!
