Chapter 49 - Surprise Invasion

"What's going on?" Ivan asked grabbed the shoulder of a nearby person who were in the middle of fleeing.

"It's an attack, if you don't want to get caught in it, you should find somewhere to hide or get out of here as soon as possible," The man answered will desperately struggling to get free and escape, but Ivan's grip on his shoulder was like steel.

"Attack? Who would be attacking?"

"Dunno. Competition, someone who holds a grudge, maybe someone who wants ownership of this here planet, could be anyone. But this is a big alarm, I ain't gettin caught in the middle of the two sides."

Ivan let the man go and turned to look up at the sky. The answer to the question he had previously been asking was quickly answered.

"Scalians? Why are they here in the Delta Quadrant?" Ivan furrowed his brows.

Small black endo-atmospheric ships powered by antimatter flew through the air and began to drop antimatter bombs and fire antimatter beams down from the sky. A massive amount of destruction began to spread throughout the settlement.

Almost immediately as soon as they appeared though, massive platoons of fifty meter battle fighters flew across the sky and began to fire back at them. Even more mechanoids ran through the settlement and started firing back from the ground, ignoring any unfortunate people still fleeing as any who didn't get out of the way would simply get stepped on by the massive human-shaped war machines.

"Fire at will," Ivan commanded the guards returning to the ship with him. "Those who are to remain, protect our store, but don't allow yourselves to suffer any casualties. I don't want anybody else getting their hands on any of your biological data."

"Yes, President," Everyone knelt in salute before taking defensive battle stances.

The Scalians began paradropping their own wardolls onto the surface to eliminate the ground forces while Ivan led his guards back toward the Kraken.

Several wardolls noticed Ivan's group flying back to his ship and turned their weapons toward them before firing small antimatter beams. The Scalians piloting the wardolls however didn't realize the Celestials were actually just below the surface universe in subspace so the small beams did nothing but alert them that they were being targeted.

The Celestial guards instantly retaliated by firing their energy spears back at the wardolls. The Scalians four armed mechanical suits couldn't even react as the white beams turned them into pincushions.

The sound of firing stopped as the wardolls crashed onto the ground on after another, kicking up a storm of dust. The Celestials could see through the fourth dimension, so all their attacks were targeted at the upper chest of the wardolls where their Scalian pilots were located.

The guards shot and destroyed several small endo-atmospheric ships and many more wardolls before they got back to the Kraken.

Within the Kraken's bridge, Ivan sat down in the captain's chair and crossed one leg over another.

"Start up all systems. I don't know why the Scalians have appeared here, but this planet is one of the keystones to the rise of Celestial Trade. This is an attack on us, so we will retaliate with full force."

"Yes, President!" The crew in the bridge echoed in unison.

"Full power to subspace thrusters, bring this ship up to the planet's orbit immediately."

The Kraken suddenly took off from the dock, twisting in a seemingly impossible matter before facing straight up and piercing through the clouds, scattering them across half the sky with a large sonic boom.

The atmosphere around the ship burned up as it ascended to space several fold faster than an asteroid falling on a planet. The four-dimensional material was impervious to normal heat however and didn't even glow red by the time it reached space.

"Radars are picking up signatures of a large fleet of vessels."

"Good," Ivan responded immediately. "That will be the Scalian fleet. How many ships are detected."

"A total of 6,148 vessels."

"Deploy the Gatling energy laser, can the ship target the enemy's engines?"

"Apologies, President, but our ship in unable to detect their engines."

"No matter. Set the Gatling energy laser to manual targeting, I will personally aim it."

"Understood."

Two doors on the bow of the Kraken retracted and a massive energy laser with eight equally massive barrels emerged. A holographic screen with a target emerged before Ivan and he used his hand in the air in conjunction to the target box to aim the laser.

With the pitch-black Scalian warships displayed on the targeting screen, Ivan moved the laser and squeezed his fist shut to begin firing.

The Gatling energy laser didn't rotate like a standard rotary machine gun, it simply fired out of each of its barrels sequentially. The rate of fire was approximately two massive energy lasers per second.

Under Ivan's control, enormous fifty feet wide beams of white light pierced through space from the Kraken and created mass mayhem amongst the Scalian fleet. Their original space-warping defensive barriers proved to be completely useless as the energy beams pierced straight through their warships.

Space was completely silent as rays of white light swept across the Scalian fleet who were making a futile attempt to dodge. The white beams fired in bursts as they passed through ship after ship, all matter being completely erased wherever they passed.

The Scalian fleet began firing back with antimatter torpedos and large antimatter beams, but the Kraken seemed to defy physics as it zig-zagged through space at high speed, avoiding all attacks.

"President, energy containment reserve has fallen to 27%, there isn't enough natural energy in subspace near the surface universe to support the ship's energy expenditure."

"Dive into subspace, open all energy vents and absorption circuits."

The Scalians watched as the Kraken suddenly faded out of existence from right in front of them. They shouted in frustration and fear to find the ship, suspecting it had some kind of cloaking technology.

20,000 wardolls has emerged from the ship and began test firing in random directions, but the strange ship has appeared to have completely vanished.

Deep in subspace, the Kraken hovered between two landmasses where energy was the thickest. Wide vents on the ship had opened and were crackling with electric blue lightning as they rapidly absorbed the natural energy in subspace and stored it within the ship's energy containment chamber.

[Energy reserves are full, President.] An engineer from the containment room notified Ivan over the ship's intercom system.

"Excellent, close all energy vents and all but primary absorption circuits."

"Closing secondary and tertiary absorption circuits now."

"Rising through subspace and returning to the battlefield."

"Combat Controllers, open all Hyperion Ray Cannons and target the bulk of the Scalian Fleet. Gatling energy laser is to remain in my control."

The Kraken emerged in the surface universe as mysteriously as it vanished. The Scalian commanders all received alarms from their ships and focused on immediately destroying the Kraken. What surprised them was four large cannon-like appendages on the sides of the ship seemed to break away from it and float in space around the ship.

The Scalian's naturally couldn't see the arms holding the cannons, so the fuzzy floating weapons at first look like they were discarded, but the way rapidly moved and aimed at he fleet made them realize they were in serious danger.

The Scalian warships and wardolls desperately fired at the Kraken, covering space with torpedos and beams so densely packed they blocked out all the stars behind them.

The four Hyperion Ray Cannons around the Kraken lit up this time with a bright blue glow. The overlapping energy circuits within the barrels rotated rapidly as they converted the pure energy flowing to the barrels.

A blinding blue light lit up from the barrels like four stars in the night sky before they all fired a massive beam of bright blue lightning. The Hyperion Beam Cannons began to turn then as they dragged the twisting and crackling lightning through space.

The further the lightning travelled, the more it broke apart into smaller strands. Any matter nearby also received massive influences as all their electronics were immediately fried before a strand of lightning would break off from the main column and vaporize it.

The Scalian had never seen anything like this and began to do whatever they could to flee from the lightning.

The greatest casualties from this attack were without a doubt the wardolls. Two rays of blue lightning swept over them and eliminated the majority of their number.

"Status report, how many surviving enemies?" Ivan called across the bridge.

"President, there are still 3,647 warships, but only 734 wardolls still remain. Our energy reserve has been depleted to 18% as well from this attack."

"Hmm, I'm going to have to get them design better energy containment chambers when we return to CTHQ. The current chambers can't sustain heavy combat on the surface universe and it is a pain to have to dive into subspace so often just to replenish our energy."

"Valeria, make sure to make a note of that."

At Ivan's word, Valeria pulled out a SubNet Tablet and began to make a note of it for Ivan to review later.

The Kraken continued to repetitively dive in and out of subspace replenishing energy in between launching attacks at the Scalian fleet. The subspace ship moved in an impossible manner that made it impossible for the Scalians to hit with their weapons. If they ever got close, the Kraken would simply move through subspace and escape elsewhere.

The Gatling energy laser and auxiliary energy cannons tore through the warships. What surprised Ivan was that the Scalians seemed to have given up on retaliated. Instead they focused on firing bombs and launching any remaining forces down to the planet's surface while using themselves as meat shields.

The Scalians were truly war like and refused to retreat or surrender. Because of this, Kav'sall suffered much more damage than would otherwise have occurred. Ivan commanded to Kraken to shoot down as many support troops and weapons being sent down to the surface while annihilating the fleet, but there was still a moderate portion that got through their defences.

The fleet in space was taken care of after a long three hour skirmish, but the battle on the planet's surface was still ongoing. Ivan simply took the Kraken back down to the planet's surface and had all the guards spread out through the city where he set up his Celestial Trade branch store, and eliminated all remaining Scalian forces in the vicinity.

Ivan naturally wasn't concerned with the rest of the cities on the planets surface as they were the problem of Northern Star Mining Co. He had already removed the threat in space so they should be able to handle the rest at least.
