Chapter 7 - A Boring Lesson With Mr. J

"Wrong! What do you mean it's used to poke a dead beast!?"

Riiight, that is Mr. J's voice. Just now, he was asking me what I know about wands, and he said there are two things about wands. At first, my answer was, "It is the main weapon of mages." And yup, I got that right.

However, I was struck because I do not know what the other use of wands is. I mean I just got here and the world of mages is just very new for me, so there's no way I would know the other uses if I haven't seen the other uses of it.

So I come up some random stuff that I used to do with sticks. My answers are usually, 'It is used to scratch a mage's back.' 'Used to poke some beast's dung on the road in the farm and country roads, to create a magical explosion of crap.' I mean, that's a cool magic for me, but what I received from Mr. J was a kick instead than a thumbs up.

"Uhh… I think it is used to poke your nose? And wazaam! Clean nose!" Annnd, I've invented some crappy answers.

"No. No. No! What kind of trash common sense you have? These answers are preposterous!" Mr. J slapped the table hard, oh damn, he's really angry but he couldn't release it to me… Cause I'm important. Well, not really, he could really slap me because he already kicked me earlier.

"Uh, Biodegradable?" Again, I accidentally said it, I didn't mean to but well, I had already said it.

"Oh! I see, biodegradable you say? No wonder you have a rotten common sense!" Ouch, that hurts.

He continued, "So, Mr. Rotten mind, I'll give you a tip what is the other use of wands. You see, us mages could use the spell without using wands, however, it is extremely volatile to use and difficult to master because it could practically hit anyone in your vision. Now, Imagine a river flowing and you want to water your specific plants, however, it's very far away, Using buckets isn't convenient and it takes a lot of time. Therefore, you came up with an idea, 'how about using the flow of the river to directly water the plants?' So, you did that. However, you have a big problem, do you know what is it?" Mr. J Asked with his brows arched upwards.

The answer is simple since he explained it like a parent explaining how to wash your bum after taking a crap.

I raised my finger and when I was about to say, 'He was too bored to do that, so he asked his brother to make a river for him.'

Annnd, that was a stupid answer… Mr. J would literally turn me into a dust if I messed up.

I closed and lowered my hands again and started pondering about it.

So, if you want to water a plant not just a plant but a specific plant using the river flow would scatter the water and affect the entire plant field and that would be a problem cause it could destroy the entire plantation… Not only that, the strength of river flow would really destroy the plant. And that is the problem I guess.

I looked at Mr. J and he seems happy for making me pondering about it, he noticed me, "So?"

I explained the problem I come up with, and every detail I come up with, Mr. J will nodded meaning I got that correct and let me continue. I finished the entire problem about constructing and using a river to water plants.

"Good, now what is the solution to that problem?" Mr. J leaned his body on his chair as he asked.

Solution huh…

Since digging out a river is inefficient since it'll take out most of your time, the plant would dry. However digging a canal is a problem too, since the path could be steep, rocky, or might as well get clogged by leaves and some beasts may step on it, disrupting the water flow. So… The solution to that is to use a tube with a small hole on the center to reduce the strength of the water flow once it is connected to the river.

I guess a wooden pipe could work. Right, a wooden pipe could work, since it's stiff enough to transfer water on any flat ground and would work on hills when the wooden pipe is angled down flowing the water downward without scattering the water. It is also hard enough to the point that small to medium size beasts couldn't disrupt the water flow since it is flowing inside the wood. The first problem solve.

The smaller hole the water pipe can get, the weaker the water flow it could produce, meaning it could or somehow had controlled the strength of the river water. The second problem is solved.

Since it's a pipe, and it's small enough, you could directly point the pipe and the water on the specific plant that you want to water. I guess that's it?

Unless, if some idiot decided to kick that, everything would be destroyed.

I looked at Mr. J once again and explained what I came up.

And surprise!

It's

Correct!

"Heh, I think I'm too intelligent for this." I strike a pose as I snapped my fingers.

"Oh please, even a young mage at the age of five could answer simple things. Don't flatter yourself too much." Mr. J rebuked. Well, I'm just messing around, anyway.

"So, basically a wand is used to channel your mana to centralize or pinpoint the target much more efficient than using your hands which is volatile and dangerous. Not only that, using wands could make spells more accurate and potent… For example, the magic word 'Pus' if you only used your hands to cast that magic spell on the certain object, it would only get knocked out and had a dent on it." I explained and hearing this, Mr. J got intrigued, leaned his body forward, and puts his elbow on the table while hearing as I explained.

"However, if you used a wand which can make spells more accurate and pinpoint it to some target object, the spell 'pus' could make a hole on it, and as you had said, the strength of the spell depends on your mana output and it's up to you if you want to destroy the object or just knock it out… Simply put, a simple 'Pus' could actually kill a person, much less a 'Fus' that could knock a mountain. Such a scary weapon indeed." I explained as I realized the dangers of using wands and spells.

"You. Are. Correct, Mr. Magnus… That is why, wands maybe a piece of wood or stick that could be used by your nonsense ideas, it is still a terrifyingly powerful weapon." Mr. J's eyes squinted as he observes me. I guess he is testing and probing me if I am innocent or not.

Well, there's no way I could have an ill thought or intention about wands and spells with that dangers. I'm more glad that my biological mother hesitated to use full power against father, or else if she used the maximum strength of 'Fus' father might have been long dead with his organs ripped apart from his body. Not only that, I will not exist in this world.

But alas, my father is already gone. My biological mother hasn't appeared yet and I felt that the headmistress isn't my mother either, she seems looked like me but the feeling I had is that there's a huge distance between us.

I wonder, where my biological mother is.

I sighed.

"But nevertheless, I think you are aware of the dangers and I hope you have a right mind on that…" He crossed his arms, "I have a great expectation on you, Magnus Firewood."

Okay, that was definitely quite threatening with his sharp but dumb gaze at me. However, what he did next instantly made me surprised, excited, and quite.

Because right now, he puts his hands on the drawer of his desk and pulled it, after that he took something and it was a big black box. It has a natural color and marking of a black wood, and it was glossy. On the center of that box, there's a golden symbol on it.

It was a winged beast that I had never seen before in life it has a quadrupedal foot, it has a long tail and on its neck was furry. However, its head is like one of those bird type demi-beasts.

Somehow, I recognize this symbol and it's the symbol of mages. Moreover, I got that symbol or logo on my student robes right now.

He opened the box, because of my position on Mr. J's front, I wasn't able to see what's inside.

And when he took out something, my eyes went wide and my mouth couldn't stop salivating.

"Behold," Mr. J held the item and waved it around. Weirdly, I kept following that thing as it moves because it was definitely an item that I wanted to have… Well, technically, I have that item but I couldn't undo onto its original form.

Yup, you got that right. It is a wand!

Suddenly, I woke up from my delusions and remembered what our headmistress had said, I think it's like this 'Right, you two as their suitors, you had to train and cultivate this two seeds well, I'll grant these two to use beginner's wand so you could advance lesson this two… Blah blah blah.'

And I think this is it… A beginner's wand.

Although it is obvious that this is lower grade, it glossy texture made it looked sick! Cool and awesome!

"Do you know wha-"

"It's a beginner's wand!"

"R-right. Here take it, and remember, this thing is still dangerous and-"

"Yeah, yeah! I know the dangers and what I should not do." Growing impatient, I abruptly said that. Well, it's true by the way, I kept his warnings to his heart and even before then, I have a weak heart and emotions to do those wicked things, to begin with.

Mr. J's eyes squinted, he sighed and gave up from something. He puts the wand on the table and signals me to take the wand.

I stood up and lifted my chair then walked three strides before putting the chair on the floor back and sat on it. I leaned forward and the teacher's table is definitely closer now. I motioned my hand and grabbed the wand with both of my hands.

"So, this is a beginner's wand… So cool." I lifted my hands holding the wand to the ceiling checking it out.

"Sigh." Mr. J sighed and definitely, he did that because he did not like me acting this way… Like being childish and stuff… Well, I've come to aware of that long before, however, being serious all the time actually makes me crazy. I can't handle being serious and looked bored all the time. If I had a great patience in life, then being serious all the time won't be a problem.

To be truth, I might actually have a mental illness about that.

Okay, you might say: (Woah, dude, that's serious.) Well, I can say is that, yes it is indeed serious, however, I'm still fine and I am still aware of right and wrong, not only that nothing really made my life in danger, for now, that is.

"Ahem." I coughed and positioned myself properly while sitting on the chair. I looked at Mr. J seriously and asked, "Mr. J, what are the other types of wands, and what are differences between them… Not only that, I had a lot of questions that I would like to have an answer coming from you." I said.

Hearing this, Mr. J's brows raised and said, "Very well then… However, if there's are sensitive questions regarding about me, I won't answer your question, and if you irritated me, I might as well turn you into a slug."

Okay, the last one scared me a bit; however, I want to see or to know what the background of this teacher of mine is.

Well then guys, I'll tell you what he told me and explain everything on the next chapter of my story. Goodbye for now.
