Chapter 45 - Tartarus (Part 2)

Xyn Draven Nightfall and Criswell flew above in the air. Criswell, however, was not using her magnificent pair of golden wings, that was because Xyn thought that using her majestic wings was too high profile and might attract more attention that the both of them should be, thus her wings were nowhere to be seen. In the end, Xyn had to cast flight spell also unto Criswell.

Before the two of them departed, Xyn created a cabin large enough for all of his servants to fit inside. He also left some Shadow Phantoms to guard the area around the cabin. Furthermore, he also instructed the guardians to keep a keen surveillance on the surrounding grassland. Hence, leaving the task to Adrasteia, she used her abilities to summon drones and had those patrol around the grassland, while she kept observing what the drones are seeing. Of course, she had the help of the others in the watch.

Currently, Criswell and Xyn had reached quite far from where they originally were. Now, below them were numerous trees, it seemed they have reached a forest. The trees below them were nothing different, there were just trees, there was like no difference from the place where Xyn and the others came from. With it, Xyn was quite relieved. Well, it's not like one can easily recognize a tree. For Xyn, a tree is the same as the others, especially in a forest.

Of course, he could recognize the difference of trees. It was just that in a forest and the trees are in groups, in his eyes, they're all the same.

"Nothing is strange around this part. Makes me want to believe that this is the same Earth."

"Same with me. From where I can see, there is certainly nothing new. Should we take a closer look my Lord?"

Xyn gave a thought of Criswell's suggestion. Indeed, they would likely see something interesting when they get closer or maybe land on the ground. However, Xyn was quite worried about getting close.

He thought that if they get close a monster might suddenly jump out and instantly eat them both, or maybe when they get close, something might grab them and they could never escape, or maybe if they land, the ground will devour them. Well, of course, that was him being melodramatic on his thoughts and his imaginations going wild.

The unknown sure is scary.

He thought.

Of course, he must not base his decisions on those ridiculous thoughts, he must be logical. No need to say, getting closer is the best and logical way to know more about his surroundings, or perhaps they might even need land.

Just in case, Xyn planned to take precautions, for instance, casting defensive spells and other spells for protection. Better not to be careless in the unknown – no, it was best. Besides, for they have the bright sunlight, it would be easier to notice anything.

"I guess we should. We can't keep ourselves in the dark. But I must take precautions –."

The two suddenly stopped in their flying when they noticed something that they would call strange, yet still familiar, but this one required immediate attention.

"A path? No, a road."

Below them was an unpaved road in the middle of the surrounding trees. This could only mean one thing, this was a sign of civilization. Roads are precisely made for travels, which means there may be some things using the road. What those things are, Xyn had no idea.

"Then, there must intelligent beings which are using that road."

Criswell implied, which was might be the case. No unintelligent creature would be able to create a long unpaved road like this.

Xyn looked traced the road up to afar.

"It does go a very long way."

"Lord Xyn."

"What is it?"

"Look, over there."

Criswell pointed her index finger towards something, so Xyn followed where she was pointing at. There he saw something moving on the road.

"Let's have a closer look. But keep our distance."

"Understood."

They flew closer to what they saw and the closer they got, Xyn had finally properly seen what those were. The most noticeable one was what looked like –

"Is that a carriage?"

Indeed, it looked like a carriage and it was being pulled by a lone creature, and that creature looked familiar. However, Xyn gave all of his attention to the ones riding the carriage.

He peered to them closely as possible until one of them turned its head to the side and at that moment, Xyn uttered what they looked like. From the figures of its face to its color and body shape as it sat.

"Humans?"

"It appears so."

"If there are humans, then is this the same world? Then, why do they look like using things from the medieval age?"

Criswell beside him remained quiet, that's because she had no answer to give. Of course, Xyn expected no answer, how could she in the same situation as him give an answer. It was just Xyn asking himself and that might drive himself to deduce the situation more.

Then amidst his observation, he noticed some movements on the trees flanking the road and the carriage. Immediately after, several figures came out.

"Now what?"

He saw several large creatures, and along those were small creatures and there were a lot of them. For those small things looked familiar for some reason, Xyn was focused on them.

Strange, they look like goblins… Wait, Goblins! They really look like goblins!

He thought.

His eyes widened in surprise.

G-Goblins! … All goblins must be slain – wait what? Oooh, it seems I just remembered some good memories. The one with the screaming, a cave, a man in a dirty armor, and bashing with a club – okay! Looks like those three will be in trouble.

"Criswell, prepare yourself. If they die, we won't get information on our situation. So we have no choice but to help them."

"I understand my Lord."

"But before that, if they are really humans, then I would prefer to hide my face."

Xyn conjured a black mask with gold linings and markings on it. The eyes on the mask were open, and the mask was impressively designed.

If there were indeed humans, then there must be a civilization. Thus, Xyn decided to hide his face so that he can freely go to places while no one recognizes him, well only if the need arises for him to go to places that have people.

Xyn immediately wore the mask after he conjured it. Criswell on the other hand, as she already wore her full set of armor, the helm already covered her face so no need to provide her a mask.

"Let's go."

"Yes Lord."
