By the time I came home Kenji was giggling ang kicking at the same time. It became our usual habit where he would wait for me to come and we'll do our play time.
"Hi Sachie!" I placed my bag on the side and approached the giddy baby on the bed.
"How's my baby boy?" while poking his tummy.
"He alwayd waits for you to come home and he wants you to put him to sleep at night before going to work" she commented after placing the french toast she made for breakfast.
"Hang in there buddy. I'll just change my clothes" I went first to the dining table. I bet this Mom is so jealous right now.
"Are you jealous?" I teased. She pouted. Sometimes I can't help it but tease her more.
She frowned. "Just go and get changed. That boy is waiting you know" she raised a bit of her left eyebrow and then turned her back on me to get some rice. I shrugged and went to my bedroom.
After changing I took the baby from the crib and kissed him which made him laugh. This baby removes my tiredness. Normally when I get home at this hour I immediately go to bed and forget about eating because sleep is my priority.
My life did change these past four months. I have someone to eat meals with. I can get home to someone's home cooking or I get someone to taste my cooking.
Having a baby is not easy. It sure has its ups and downs. There are times when you lack sleep and rest but nothing beats having someone waiting for you to come home all smiles and giggling. If I've known that it would be like this to be a family man, I wished I did it earlier but life is strange indeed. Although its not yet something I can call my own still for now they are my little family blood related or not.
Sachie was waiting for me on the table. Eating together before work became a habit. More like became a part of my daily life now. There are some simple things in life that makes us happy yet we take them for granted. So I better enjoy this while it lasts.
"Reeve I have 5 day conference in the south next month..." I can sense some bit of hesitation or sadness in her voice.
"Okay? When specifically?"
"First week maybe? around 3-7 something like that"
I was calculating the dates. Christmas is fast approaching. Isn't it a bit odd to schedule something on the peak season dates? Anyway I still have unused leaves I could use so she won't have to worry anymore.
"Hey" I touched her arm. "Don't worry about Kenji. I could get a leave or pretend to be sick if necessary."
With a little smile on her face she said "I don't want to bother you anymore... You know... you already helped me a lot in and I think that asking you to take a leave for work is too much..."
"Since when did both of you became a bother?" I was bothered with the word "bother" really. I haven't thought of them in this way is she only knew how much happiness do they bring for me.
She looked at me regretting her use of words. "Sorry" she mumbled and then looked down at her plate. Did I sound angry to her? She's showing me this sad face.
"Sachie look at me" I tried to peek on her face. She's so cute. Oh man. I was supposed to be a bit disappointed but can't help but smile now. It's frustrating sometimes.
Kenji cooed. "Sachie, Kenji's calling you too"
Finally she looked at me. Was she fighting her tears? Oh no. I did something bad. I smiled at her and I waited until she responded with a smile too.
"I'm not angry or anything. It's just that both of you are not a bother. If it was I would have left you midway you know." I just hope that I used the right words. You know sometimes we can be misinterpreted.
"Sorry..."
"Just give me the details later so I can file for leave. Okay?"
"Okay..."
I think I snapped at her. Reeve you made her sad. It's like I've been with them for months now and I'll be with them as long as I can. I think this is the first time that the atmosphere was this heavy. I have to think quick so she won't be gloomy to work. I noticed the clock and its time for her to start preparing.
"Sachie you need to prepare for work" I tried to sound more enthusiastic. She looked at the clock and it seemed to work. I stopped her from taking the plates gesturing her that I would do it. She obeyed and went to her room. I placed Kenji back on the crib while taking care of the kitchen.
She had a high ponytail today together with her wash day attire. She wore a pink blouse and jeans paired with white sneakers. She said goodbye to Kenji first and then to me.
"See you later!" she gave me one of her sweetest smiles. Maybe she had already pondered their significance to me and hopefully she wouldn't think of that way again.
I took Kenji from the crib to feed him. This baby is a sucking monster. He gets heavier as the days went by. Is it a good thing that we look alike? It feels as if he looks someone I knew. But its quite impossible. Its such a big world. Maybe Christie likes foreign men and its a coincidence that I am foreigner living her for so long. I'll just push aside this thought. Who cares about the father? I am his daddy now. For now and I'll just have to do my best in being a good father figure from him until Sachie founds the guy she likes.
Found another guy she likes? This thought stings to my heart.
I don't know If I could handle it when the time comes...
