Chapter 73 - Ark 9: Shadows Rise part 3

Vann watched the halls, seeing Vail staring at something, he went to approach him when his phone buzzed. Vann pulled it out to see a message.

/Hey foxy, me and the girls are having a hard time, the reason is that Crow and Vail are lovers that cannot be together thanks to everything that happened. Plus, we found out that everything he was doing was for the kingdom, not personal or betrayal in any other way. Crow doesn't know this, but I was casting a truth spell around me so she couldn't lie. So please do what you can. The only traitor was Kyle, Vail only played a tiny part, but still, the lord never saw it that way. TTYL. /

Vann felt a hard lump as he turned to see Vail still where he saw him. Vann built up the courage and walked over to Vail. "Vail, have a moment?"

Vail slowly turned to Vann, his gaze cold and stern. "What do you want now?"

Vann whipped his screen to his face, Vail's eyes widen as he stared at the message. "Lily texted me this, a-and it explains why you did what you did." Vann sighed as he leaned against the wall. His tails swaying in the air as Vann's discomfort of the situation grew. "Look, I have a plan, and it does involve you rejoining Kyle, but…"

Kito stared at him, knowing if he didn't comply, he and Crow would never see each other again. "Go on, I am listening?"

Vann looked into his eyes, "You are to convince the still vulnerable Hunter, to commit the killing of Lovell, knowing Kyle he might try and stop the fight."

Kito waited for more, as he opened his mouth. "And what outcome are you looking for?"

Vann turned away, "Where Lovell kills Kyle and Hunter kills him out of rage."

Kito's heart sank as the words reached his ears. Kito felt Vail laughing within him as he gripped his heart. "Fine, when do we leave? Since you would have to be near for all of this to suppress the curse placed upon me?"

Vann looked up at the ceiling, "Once the girls get back, we leave about an hour after. So, pack up and be ready to leave. I will send a message back to Lily, letting her know what the plan is." Vann sighed before turning his attention back at Kito, "If all goes well, you might have the curse lifted for your loyalty, compared to what happened to Azoth."

Kito nodded as he began to walk away. He was leaving Vann as he went to do what he said. Kito entered his room, closing the door Kito began to cry as he slides down to the floor. "Why, why did this have playout, like this?"

Kito closed his eyes, and as he opened, he found he was not in his room. Kito looked around to see only pick black, he could not feel walls and noticed he could see himself clearly but nothing else. "Well, well, you seem to have slipped within your self somehow. The place where I reside after your-sorry, our little curse was cast on us."

Kito whipped his head around but couldn't see where Vail's voice was coming from. "Where are you, Vail?"

Vail smiled as he watched Kito, "Look up." Kito stopped then looked up to see himself staring at him. "Now you can see me let's talk about your—our future?"

Kito stepped back as Vail landed in front of him. "So, what? You are going to tell me that you should be in charge?"

Vail laughed at Kito. "No, not yet anyway. You see, I am enjoying your suffering, and we have a more mutual relationship since you know what this curse does already since you watched Azoth go through it?"

Kito stared at him intensely, "So, you're not going to interfere with our plan?"

Vail grinned at Kito. "Well, yes, but if you cannot handle something, I will take over so that you can live."

Kito gritted his teeth as he watched Vail pace around him. "Fine then, I won't resist, but only take over if truly cannot handle it. You already know when I do that after what happened between Crow and me before the meeting."

Vail stopped waving his hand, "Yeah, yeah. You just do your part, and you might be alive to marry Crow as you and not as me." Vail then rushed towards Kito, with his fingers poised to poke his eyes. Kito shut his eyes. "Now wake up. You don't have much time left before you leave. *

Kito opened his eyes to see he was back in his room, he looked at the clock to see that four hours had passed. He got up and began to pack what he would need and carefully chose clothes that would say that he was kicked out for treason. He gathered everything carefully before heading over to the main grounds. Vann was already waiting for him as he stood with his gear pack up on a wagon. He notices around his neck a strange gem.

Kito walked up to him, "Vann, what is that around your neck?"

Vann picked it up and caressed it within his hand. "It's an illusion stone, it makes me look completely different to everyone except for those I chose to see my true self, like you and the other councillors."

The gate began to open behind Vann, They looked over to see the girls walking back in. They seemed refreshed and were enjoying their time together. Lily tapped Crow's shoulder, Erin waved them goodbye as they walked over to Vail and Vann.

"So, you're leaving then?" Lily asked.

Vann nodded, "Yes, after we have our moment with you and Crow."

Crow rubbed her arm as Kito stared at her. "Crow, let's talk over here?" Crow nodded as they left Vann and Lily alone.

"so, what do you want to talk about?" Crows words cold and distant.

Kito grabbed her hand and stared at her in the eyes. "If this mission is successful, the curse might be lifted, and we could stare at our relationship, even though it will be at the cost of Kyle's life." Kito began to well up, Crow whipped his tears as she listened to him. "So, please don't hate me for doing this for our sake."

Crow sighed as she leaned her head against his. "Vail, I understand that, and I wish there was another way, but we cannot have it any other way even if we tried. Besides, this is the best news I could have received since the meeting from earlier." Crow leaned in and began to kiss Kito. Kito clasped her face as they began to embrace each other.

Vann coughed as they began to heat up the surrounding area around them. Kito stopped, he pulled away from Crow, sliding his hand over hers. Vail hoped she would grasp his before could he leave her. She did as he wanted, without any words, they knew what each other were going to say as they let go—saying their silent goodbyes to each other. Kito walked to the gate, knowing either this was the last time he would see her in this way or the beginning of their journey together.
