Three years went and gone as Kyle excelled amongst his peers. Kyle had gained recognition within the academy. He was both smart and talented, mastering the field of scientific advancement and gunmanship.
Kyle walked the halls, lifting his glasses as he headed to the commander's office. He could hear some voices beyond the door.
"This Kyle person is to be transferred to the main base at the capital," Kyle could not make out the voice as he began to wait to enter.
"Cadet Longfeather seems to the right choice for our operations, and besides, he was chosen by the First councillor, so you cannot argue with his decision." Kyle was shocked to hear and other voice, before the door opened, "We shall take our leave, and we better not find out he was not sent, or Lord Demora might have a hissy fit." The person walked out as Kyle had moved to the side before they could see him.
The other one said their goodbyes and left; Kyle turned to enter the commander's office. The commander looked up to see Kyle standing in the doorway. "Come in, Kyle Longfeather."
"Sir," Kyle salute before entering.
The commander waved his hand to the seat before him, "Take a seat." Kyle did as he asked as the commander got up and walked to the window. "I am betting you already heard that you will be graduating after hearing what those two had to say?"
Kyle gripped his pants. "Yes, sir, I did, but only the last few minutes of your conversation with them."
The commander stared out the window. "I see, well, then go pack your things, you leave as soon as you are packed, dismissed."
Kyle stood up and bowed at his commander, then left to pack his things. As he walked the hall to his room, two of the other cadets blocked his path. They towered over him as he looked up at them.
"Where are you going, Kyle?" one asked him, grabbing him by the arm.
Kyle sighed as he looked at his arm. "I am packing my thing."
The other one laughs at him before composing himself. "SO, they kicked your weak ass out?" Kyle stood there as they started to mock him. "Ever since the fifth councillor left, you have had no one to protect your weak ass from failing, hahaha!"
Kyle went to move, but the other one stopped him, "Why don't we give you a going-away present, such as your death. That will save them the trouble of killing you later."
He pulled a knife out, reading to kill Kyle. Kyle grabbed him, twisting the knife out of his hand, then pinning him to the ground, then pulling out his own blade and stabbing the others foo. Pinning him where he stood. The cadet screamed in agony as Kyle calmly stared at them.
"You son of a—" before he could speak a chill in the air caught his attention. Kyle looked up at him. "As soon as I packed, I am to head to the main base as a full-fledged knight, meaning I have graduated and have been summoned by first councilor." The two froze in fear as they heard what Kyle was saying. "So, if you kill me to hear and now you will be treated as traitors and executed indecently and swiftly."
Kyle pulled his knife out his foot and let the other one go and began to walk off. The two stared at him in distaste. Kyle entered his room and slid down, taking a deep breath as he composed himself. "Dam those two. Why did they have to be there at that time?" He looked over to the window to see a red crow waiting for him. Kyle got up and checked the bird to find a letter from Vail, Kyle opened the letter.
/Congratulations on graduating Kyle; I hope to see you soon and wish you the best of luck when you get here. /
Kyle ignited the note as the bird took off, "Thank Vail, and I hope whatever awaits me at the capital is not something I will regret." He smiled as he watched the sunset before getting started on his packing.
The thirty-first hour of the day drew close, Kyle could hear some of the cadets talking trash about him. He stopped to look out his window, he could see Crow standing in the distance as she grinned cynically at every word. Kyle remembered her from his hometown, he shivered as he looked away from her.
The next morning, Kyle finished pack when a knock at the door caught his attention. He went to open the door when the person on the other side knocked again. Kyle gripped his knife in its sheath, readying himself for the worst.
"Who is there?" Kyle asked, waiting for their answer.
"Kaw, Kaw—Bahahaha," The voice answered, him as they laughed. "It's Crow, Kyle."
Kyle cautiously opened the door, seeing the dark elf standing outside his door. "Crow." Kyle looked at her in distaste, "What do you want from me? I am busy."
Crow clapped her hands together. "I came to tell you that 'I am proud of for graduating.'" Her voice, sarcastic and tone-deaf, Kyle could feel sweat running down his back. Crows deep red eye's piercing him. "Is what I like to feel, but you know that's not true. I am just curious about how you got summoned by the first and not the fifth?"
She walked into Kyle's rooms, as if she owned the place, "Crow, leave. I need to get—"
Crow placed her finger over his lips. "I know, but I want to give you something." Kyle stared at her as she pulled out a pendent with an ocean blue gemstone. "I want you to have it because I have no need for such trinkets. Besides, it thinks you will make better use of it than me."
Crow left the room, leaving Kyle with more questions than answers to why she was seeing him off. Kyle shook his head, trying not to dwell on it. He picked up his gear and head out to the gates. Three years Kyle was there. He was the fastest to graduate than anyone. Kyle turned to look at the academy and smiled. Kyle felt some freedom as he got on the carriage, taking him to his new home.
