Chapter 9 - SSSKV

**Platina's POV**

The next morning was unexpectedly peaceful. Kaius woke me up more gently (if you considered pinching my nose and stopping my breathing gentle). He claimed that I wouldn't wake up otherwise, and I knew that was true. I was NOT a morning person, but it seemed he was, with the way he hummed happily in the bathroom (horribly out of tune, I should add).

Unfortunately, the moment we stepped out of the room to get breakfast, our mood instantly turned sour. People were looking at us with weird expression in their faces, which I couldn't pinpoint because I was horrible at reading emotions. I could hear whispers around us as students gossiped to each other.

"Did you see yesterday's duel? Kaius lost!"

"I know! I can't believe this day would ever come."

"Rilche was still gloating since yesterday."

"I guess Kaius' familiar really is weak. I thought she must be a demon in disguise or something, but she's actually just a normal person."

Wait a minute… a demon in disguise?! Is that what they thought I was? I may not be fully human, but speculating something like that was just too much! I gave a glare that the general area the snide comment came from (since I didn't know who said it), and they quieted down. However, once I turned my back, the gossips started again.

"Let it go," Kaius said, but I could tell he was trying really hard not to let it get to him. And failing, if that twitch in his eye was any indication.

We sat down on the table and I immediately began pouring an unhealthy amount of syrup on my pancakes. Since the last two days had been so eventful, I ate very little and was pretty much starving at this point.

"Urgh, are you going to eat that?" Kaius made a face of disgust and groaned when I elbowed him a little too harshly. Seriously, this guy was too weak. I should consider training him. I felt a shock again, similar to the one I felt yesterday but not as intense. Maybe it was proportional to the damage I inflicted.

"Shut up, I like sweet food," I countered. And I knew that was an understatement. I had been told, on numerous occasion, by numerous people, that my taste for sweets was atrocious and would probably give me diabetes if I was human. The amount of syrup on this pancake could more correctly be defined as maple syrup with pancake topping.

"Well, look who's here? If it isn't the loser from yesterday," Rilche appeared from behind us, startling me into dropping my folk on my pancakes, which splattered a drop of syrup on Kaius' cheek and several more on his clothes. I shot him a sorry and he shrugged, wiping the drop on his cheek with his finger, then licked it. I blushed at that because I was eating the syrup several seconds ago. That was like an indirect kiss or something! Okay, I probably blew this way out of proportion, but that never happened to me before, damn it!

"Well, look who's here? If it isn't the loser from yesterday," Rilche repeated what he said because we didn't react the first time. Desperate guy.

I glanced at Kaius, to see how he would react, but he pretty much ignored Rilche, so I did the same and ate my pancakes again.

"KAIUS!" Rilche leaned over and yelled in Kaius' ear, but the sheer volume did some damage to my ears as well, since I was sitting next to Kaius.

Kaius grimaced and I did the same. My ears were still ringing and I hated getting interrupted during my meal, so I reacted before Kaius could. I knocked Rilche away in the stomach with my elbow. He let out an 'oof' before doubled over (I could do pretty serious damage when I wanted to). I flinched a little at the electric current being shot through me again, but it seemed nobody noticed that. However, he recovered pretty fast (what was he? A cockroach?) and was booming down his voice on us again.

"Kaius, I didn't think I would see you here after that humiliating defeat yesterday. With such a weak familiar, are you sure you can pass the practical exam next month?" He taunted. Gosh this guy was getting really annoying. No wonder Kaius tried to avoid him.

"Well, we just have to see about that, won't we?" I replied confidently. He was lucky yesterday because I unfortunately had my power sealed and no weapon on hand. But I was sure I could fix that in one month's time.

The guy had his mouth opened and closed like a fish out of water, probably surprised that I had that much confidence after yesterday's duel. I took this chance to pull Kaius out of the cafeteria before Rilche recovered.

Kaius opened his locker, getting ready for the first class of the day, which I learned was Elemental Magic. I was pretty excited to see how different this world's magic was from my own.

"What the?" Kaius exclaimed and I tiptoed to look over his shoulder. There was a note, written in fancy writing and lots of pink hearts on the margins:

Dear Kaius,

We, the Secret Society in Support of Kaius Vanadir (SSSKV) (pronounced Triple-S Kava), would like to extend our well wishes to you. We know yesterday must be absolutely devastating on you, but we want you to know that we will continue to support you in the present and the future as well. So keep on shining, our Elfin Prince!

Love,

SSSKV

I burst into laughter at the content while Kaius looked like he wished he hadn't seen it.

"Looks like someone's popular. I didn't know you have a fan club," I teased, "better let them know you're grateful for their support." He didn't reply except crinkling the letter into a ball and threw it in the trashcan. I caught it with my hand and gasped dramatically, "Oh no, how could you be so cruel to those girls' feelings? What kind of Elfin Prince are you?" He was blushing in embarrassment by now, and it looked especially striking on his pale skin. This was so entertaining!

I straightened up the letter, about to make fun of him again when my eyes caught some writings at the back.

P.S. Kaius' familiar, if you're reading this. GET AWAY FROM OUR PRINCE!!!
