Chapter 44 - Photos

With one of the troubles that Greg mentioned, Lana had to come face to face the next day. Coming to work, she wasn't really expecting an especially warm welcome. But the degree of overall attitude has changed too dramatically. Instead of whispering and sideways glances, she was welcomed by smiles and openly scornful expressions on the faces of her colleagues. The cold and arrogant behavior of Miss Bright compared to this seemed almost friendly. Nobody was talking to her directly now, and several waitresses even made a whole show ot of taking back the plates washed by Lena. They were making such disgusted expression as if they were holding a smelly waste.

Only Miss Bright helped solve the mystery of this behavior. Less than twenty minutes from the beginning of lunchtime, she burst into the pantry, where Lana hid once again while sorting and cutting vegetables for the kitchen.

"Miss Benne!" - She started with a dry tone of this prosecutor. - "I already warned you once. Could you be so kind as to explain yourself." - Miss Bright asked, thrusting a stack of papers directly into Lana's face.

Lana looked with surprise at the posters then at the owner's furious face. Then carefully took them. She only needed to glance at what was pictured in the photos in her hands, as everything inside started to boil. There were photos of Lana from different angles: dancing in a club dressed as an oriental beauty, in the uniform of a waitress, carrying cocktails and even near a group of prostitutes in the street of their old district - in large letters it was written: "The whore has gotten into the heart of a millionaire, or some other parts..."

"VGARM corporation now hires through the bed," "Cinderella or a golddigger?" etc.

Lana's hands began to tremble.

"I'm listening, Miss Bennet!" repeated Miss Bright with pressure.

In response, Lana straightened and slowly and carefully folded these posters. Then, lifting her eyes to the headmistress, she calmly answered.

"Miss Bright, it's actually me who should be asking you, where did you get these photos from? I hope you understand that it is a crime to shoot and distribute other people's images without their consent. And even more so to discredit someone's good name?!"

The woman hesitated and carefully looked at Lana. Apparently, she did not expect such a reaction. But Miss Bright was still not a timid one, so she quickly recovering, and replied:

" These materials have been circulating around the building since the morning. Who distributes them and why, does not concern me. What worries me is the reputation of my business. And such scandals are unacceptable."

"I think so, too," - Lana agreed with her, completely puzzling an angry woman. But Lana has not finished yet. With confident steps, Lana went into the kitchen, and said loudly so that everyone could hear her.

"In connection with this, I will today submit a report to the police and a lawsuit against a person who not only dug into my personal life but also slandered me. As a person of high moral character, Miss Bright, I hope you will support me and act as a witness. I think, as the owner of this restaurant and a respected person, you won't be able to tolerate that one of your subordinates is the goal of such an injustice." - She finished pompously. Silence fell in the kitchen. The workers looked at each other puzzled, not knowing what to think. Lana did not wait for the reaction and put out all the posters in her bag.

"I apologize for interrupting everyone's work. I would like to ask my dear colleagues, if you see such things, please inform me about it. Ms. Bright is right, things like this can damage not only me, the usual dishwasher, but the whole corporation. I hope for your consideration." - She added, addressing now everyone. Without waiting for an answer, Lana nodded, as a token of gratitude and returned to her duties. Although she was forced to spend a long time in the pantry to calm the wolf, that was aiger to arrange a bloody massacre here. "Some people really don't know who they shouldn't cross!" - she thought wistfully, hiding glowing eyes with narrow pupils in the half-darkness of the pantry.
