Chapter 39 - You can't make me stay

"You'll know more about me. We'll visit you soon. I'll really smack that Kris guy." Missus Overalls bid her goodbye and went home while she rubbed her hands together in anticipation of Kris's incoming retribution. So he thinks he can hide his wife forever, huh! She smiled like a silly girl.

She turned around when she remembered that she did not even have her name but she's already gone. She remembered her talking to Handsome first before she intruded so he must have gotten her name. Where did that monkey went to?

He did not come back after their last confrontation, obviously delaying discussion of her resignation. She did not mind it anyway, she's been waiting for Missus Overalls to come by their cafe again so she can get to know her more.

She doesn't want to come by the mansion alone as Chryxso's temper frightens her so she just waited for another chance to speak with her again. Days became weeks and she still hasn't seen the lady around so she just concluded that they may have left the Aresta's already. Big brother Kris is so annoying, can he even introduce his wife to me?

Handsome is still missing in action. He either comes over when she's not around or he just doesn't come at all. And his absence is getting her annoyed, she really wanted to leave this cafe now.

She'll be out of town again today for some shopping but it looks like her stars have aligned as she forgot to bring her wallet and had to return home. She heard a car stop by their neighbor she as entered their house.

When she spotted that it was Handsome's car in front of his parents house, she dashed out and knocked on their door. His mother received her warmly. She smiled and craned her neck looking for him. Her mother noticed it and brought her to the back where she saw him smoking.

His mother called onto him and when he realized she saw him smoking, he looked shocked and is that fear that she's seeing? Oh, nevermind. Handsome immediately stubbed his cigarette on a nearby stone and walk towards her. He maintained a safe distance as he knows how she feels repulsed at the smell of smoke. She maintained her warm smile and asked.

"Kris's wife, did you get her name?" he left his mouth hanging when he realized that he also did not ask for her name. She realized that he made the same blunder so she let out a disappointed sighed and smiled before she walked away. What did she expect for this man? Ugh, so unreliable.

"I'm supposed to be out shopping for today but since you're already here, just do it instead. And also," she turned to look back at him. The list of ingredients still on his hands as he looked at her in disbelief.

"According to my resignation letter, today is my last day. I thought I should remind you."

She walked out of their house and went back to the cafe, resuming her work as if nothing happened. Maybe because it's already her last day, she felt extra energized to work until the night. She even volunteered to close the cafe and sent the crew to go home early.

She made sure to leave some notes on the schedule before she left. There would be times when she'd be out of the cafe and they just manage by themselves. Janae has been especially close to her so she entrusted all the management work to her. If Handsome doesn't like her delegation, then he can hire a new one. For her, she's done! And free! Wheee!

She slung her backpack over her shoulders and grabbed the doors to close it when a large hand stopped her. She looked up just in time to see Handsome holding what looked like a really big hammer with long handle. He looked tipsy as she smelled alcohol from his breath. Did he lose an investment or something?

"Hello baby!" he grinned at her sheepishly. Her eyes grew wide! Has the guy gone mad already?

"What is that?" she disregarded his endearment and instead pointed at the tool he's carrying. He looked disappointed but smiled back at her again.

"Oh this? This is a hammer!" he tried to make his voice sound like a kid which is extra hilarious but this did not move her. It was the first time she saw him smashed from too much alcohol so there must be something troubling him.

"Why did you bring a hammer here?" she continued asking as she stepped backward, ready to run. She's getting a little bit scared by now. She's afraid he may hit her with the hammer.

"Oh! It's for..hik... closing time!" he waived her out of the way and entered the cafe. With one swing, he got one of the tables destroyed. As the tables are made of glass, shattered pieces went flying and sliced her forearm.

Sweetheart yelped in pain but she had no time to whine right now as Handsome continued on his drunken disarray and started destroying few more things. She rushed to stop him from smashing another table but he was stronger and he just waived her away. She tried to move the table as he swung on it. She kept her eyes close bracing for impact in case she gets beaten herself.

"Stop it!" he's eyes momentarily registered her action and he woke up from his daze when he heard her shout. He angrily grabbed her arm and pulled her away from the table. She winced from the pain as blood oozed from her wound.

"Get out!" he roared which shocked her to the core. She furrowed her eyebrows and got angry herself.

"No! You're destroying the cafe!"

"So what!" she scoffed and shook her head. So he built it all for nothing?

"You're really something. Fine! Do it all you want! I don't work here anymore anyway. Goodluck explaining this to your crew tomorrow." she walked away from him.

When she saw that he just slumped on the pile of mess he just created, she worried that he may be cut with the shattered glasses. She dragged her unwilling body back to the cafe again, hauled his body in a nearby chair and swept the area clean. Sigh. Sometimes she really wants to smack herself on her head. She felt that she's too kind.

He must have calmed himself now as she can just hear his soft breathing. She heated some water and threw in a pack of tea before serving it to him.

"Drink it." he just looked at the cup and stared back at her.

"I don't drink tea," his image of drinking tea at their house when he came from before flashed on her mind. She just sighed and prepared coffee instead.

"Here. Get a grip will you." she set the cup on the table and grabbed a glass of water for herself. He swiped it away from her and gulped it down. She just shook her head in disbelief. She clenched her fist and tried really hard not to claw his face from irritation. I think, I'll get an early menopause because of this person.

"What do you plan to do now?" she finally asked after a long moment of silence.

"I'll probably close this down. It's going back to the stagnant state it was before." he replied.

"You don't have to pay rent. I'll sell this now to you." she has long decided on it. She enjoyed working at the cafe but she felt tied to it that she also repulsed it. Since he's doing something good for this land then she can just sell this to him in peace. He stunned her with his answer.

"What would I use it for? You're not working here anymore."
