Chapter 1: Prologue

"Incoming!"

"Medic! Get a damn medic here!"

"Ah! Help me! My arms!"

A chaotic battlefield is displayed on his scope. After ensuring that he got every information correct and right on the spot, he inputted it and encrypted it on the artillery. He looked at the scope again to see the other side of the battlefield. Aliens, extraterrestrial lifeforms have flooded the human's defence line as they rushed and killed any humans unfortunate enough to get in their way. Of course, the humans wouldn't just let someone to kill them. Multiple and varied streaks of light came from the human's defence line as they fired and unloaded their weapons at will. But the aliens they were facing have the numerical advantage.

By the year 2201, it heralded the day when the humans have finally emerged from their planet and created their first spacecraft to explore the stars. They recorded new stars and planet, studied numerous materials and datas, colonised new worlds and they made contact with the galactic community. The humans began their rise to prominence as a young and flourishing empire on the galactic stage. At last, the dreams of the humans to reach to the stars succeeded, once and for all.

By the year 2468 in the human's calendar, a galactic war in the Milky Way galaxy happened. Dubbed by every intelligent life-form as the "War in Heaven". The spark that caused the war to happen is the awakening of a ten thousand year old, ancient precursor empire. With the awakening of a precursor, its ancient precursor rival rose from its thousands of years of slumber. It was at the time where humans are just an average space empire. Not strong, not weak, average in all aspect. The precursors sent scouts and diplomats to the younger races. They subjugated those that did not conform to their desires. Destroyed those who resist stubbornly. Offered protection to the younger races in exchange of their freedom. The Galactic war didn't happen until two precursors had a quarrel. The cause: unknown, but other empires noticed the increase in movement of precursor ships. Ancient precursor shipyards roar to life as they produce one ship after another. Commands are given to their vassals, as border conflicts between two precursors happened. The constant border patrols elevated to minor skirmishes. Then those skirmishes escalated to the occasional battles. Until the day that those battle became an all out war.

That time, there was four precursor empires upon which 2 have awakened. The precursors are different from each other. The Dystyamak Regulators, as they call themselves, is the first precursor who have awoken from their slumber. The first sleeping giant to arise and join the galactic stage. The Dystyamak, a race half life-form half robot, a cyborg, the first precursor race that shocked the galactic stage. Their pure materialistic nature caused conflicts with other younger races and an alliance of spiritualistic empires joined hands to vanquish those ancient 'heretics'. They paid a heavy price for their foolishness. It took 3 years for the precursor to beat the alliance to submission and they gained 4 vassal empires after the war. A spiritualistic precursor awakened, Rakashan Crusaders, the old rivals of the Dystyamak since ancient times. They condemned the Dystyamak for bullying the younger empires. The Rakashan spread the tyranny of their old rivals to the younger empires and offered protection to those who will follow their beliefs. Fear was spreading through the younger races back then as they fortified their fleets and strengthened their borders in case the Dystyamak attacked them so when the Rakashan offered their protection, 7 empires near the Dystyamak swore their allegiance. Humanity at that time is far away from the conflict zone. They thought war wouldn't spread at their direction in case war happens. But the worst of the worst came.

Years passed as terror spread over the galaxy. The once powerful younger empires have to give their seats to the precursors as they sharpened their blades in preparation to compete for the position of the ruler of the galaxy. The precursors on the other hand ignored the actions of the younger races as they deem those races as nothing but young upstarts. Alliances were formed between the younger races who chose not to submit to the precursors and the superpowers from the younger races allied themselves to each other. The humans are far away from the precursors but their neighbouring empire, the Vulg Republic, is a superpower who opposed the precursors openly. Humanity have no choice but to join the alliance of the younger empires.

Years passed as tension spread and heightened. Border skirmish happened between the precursors until it escalated to full scale battles. There was once a Dystyamak fleet who passed by the borders of a young superpower, the Divine Mandate of Longarim, without warning or permission. their goal is to use the younger upstarts as the springboard for their offensives. The Divine Mandate of Longarim, also known as the Theocracy, thought they were being invaded so they called forth for the alliance for reinforcement as they sent their fleets to battle. A battle happened between the fleets of the Dystyamak and the Theocracy. The precursors are surprised at the foolishness of the young upstarts but they issued the orders to destroy the fleets of the young ones as a show of force and power. The Theocracy's fleet is losing and diminishing but they help up as the reinforcements from their allies is coming. When a single fleet is all that remained from the Theocracy, reinforcements arrived and joined the battle but as the saying goes, "shit hits the fan". A fleet of Rakashan fleet arrived at the system with the goal of wiping out the fleet of their own rival while improving their image to the young empires so that their influence will spread and that many young empires will embrace their belief. But, the younger empires thought that the two precursors were in cahoots. The younger ones thought that these two precursors are working together to teach them, the younger empires a lesson. They thought that these two old fossils were being arrogant. It was their time to shine! It was their generation. In their view, those precursors were old men wanting to reclaim there former glory amidst borrowed time. The fact that the precursors are too arrogant to communicate with the younger empires made those younger ones whose minds are hesitating to believe that this situation is a scheme against them, hence, a chaotic battle ensued.

The battle lasted for a month and a half. Debris littered the system that was used as a battlefield. The younger empires shot anything resembling the ships of the precursors while the precursors are busy shooting at the ships of the younger empires and their rivals. No one won at that battle and all sides sustained grave losses. With numerical advantage at their side, the younger empires thought they won against the precursors. The precursors withdrew because further humiliation will befell them if they stayed there. The younger races proclaimed their superiority once more but the precursors viewed it as an insult. Diplomatic talks were issued by every empire but diplomacy of all forms failed to ensure lasting peace and soon, everything spiralled towards chaos and a year later, the start of an all out war between the galaxy came to be.

The War In Heaven.
