Chapter 67 - The Herald Returnes

2 year later.

The world had changed, nations had become more peaceful, the humans and demonkin developed trade, they were met with hardship, but they fought through it.

The demonkin council decided on a revolution, but the hidden trump card left by the Herald was enough to snuff the resistance the council were branded as traitors and were executed on sight.

Haruna who was one of the heroes that decided to remain with the demon king Lilith had a major hand in quenching the rebellion. Managing to discern the hidden movements of the council and catching them redhanded.

The Undead army remained standing to protect the kingdom of the demonkin.

The humans had changed, some even began spreading the cult of the Herald to upturn the heavens and seize control over their own lives. The church of gods crumbled under their might, and the human king decided to wage war against them himself.

Upon uprooting the church, the humans were freed from their oppressive control. One was no longer forced to join the religious group, only by their own volition they could retain their right to worship any deity.

Heroes stepped forward some were champions to various Divines that wanted to establish their hold over the land but they were refused due to their uselessness. Heroes were needed in times of strife, now it was peace so why should they bother with the divine?

Some thought that it was utterly hypocrite that they relied on the divine only when they needed them and once they no longer had any usage, they forsook them. But many didn't like how things unfolded. The Herald clearly showed everyone the lack of action from the upper realms, they were considered shepherds, and they forsook their worshipper, why bother with worshipping them then?

The desert owned by Solomon would occasionally tremble at the events unfurling within it.

A devil and an archangel would spar to the deathly limit day in and day out. Wanting to grow over so stronger and becoming slightly more than they were.

The humans accompanying them were no pushovers too.

Priestess of blood Misaka who is able to turn seas into blood and command creatures that were shaped by this grotesque substance was no longer the weakling she used to be.

The prodigy of the sword, the girl Known as Haruka grew much more accustomed to using the rift maker that she no longer was bound by the sacrifice needed to use the most powerful cut. Added with that she gained several new abilities that could compare her might to the power of a nation.

The fatty grew more accustomed to his prows, now no longer he is bound by fear or indecisiveness, due to battling day and night against oppressive odds.

He became sturdier and more proficient at using the trinkets given by the Herald.

The tank that could withstand a calamity while smiling.

"It's time," said a Djhin that emerged from nowhere into the vast sea of sand.

The Devil could only smirk as he stood dusting his robes from sand.

Before he was a fallen Archangel that was retaining human appearance which was heaving for breath.

The weakness of a mortal body was apparent, but she was not bothered by that, it was the fact that the devil that she always sparred with never seemed to be fatigued or would ever tier.

It was frustrating when she used all of her might, but she was never able to land a decisive hit on him.

However all that anxiety and frustration disappeared once the Djhin named Horos, he had the head of an eagle and was proficient in using light magic. Everyone knows him, he even participated numerous times in their spars.

It was but a two years but felt much longer, they all waited the day of his return, and it should be now.

The five members grouped together and were transported back to the familiar palace.

Though they rarely rested, they came here many times.

"My king," said the Djinn as he went back to his corner.

"Now is the time young ones." Said the king

"I am actually much older than you Solomon," said Beelzebub as he never was one that bothered with etiquette or respect.

"Sigh"

No one bothered with correcting the Devil's attitude as it became but a pointless action that further made him more annoying in their eyes.

"You guys are no fun." Said the Devil as he was petting his now most favorite companion. A cockroach that never left his side.

"This is where the seal should be in its weakest state. All of you stand back." Said the King as the soul that was hovering next to him floated a bit and hummed a beautiful song.

The four giants took a position, and a grand magic was cast. Unlike the last time where it was used to seal, the four magic circles that were created looked at each other. However this time they parted ways.

"It should have been impossible to unlock him from that place. Thankfully he has the cuff of divination that anchors him to this world. We can bring him back easily now" said the King as he opened his hands adding one layer of magic on top of the magic circles.

The palace began to vibrate violently where a fissure in space opened and thousands upon thousands layers of chains began to emerge.

It looked like a monster made of chains.

The chains began to dissipate until a mummy made of chains was revealed.

It was standing, unmoving and looked to be lifeless.

The chains began to unwrap to unfold an armor of sorts. It looked like it had decayed. Like if thousands of years had passed upon the piece of armor that looked to be too brittle to be called armor as it began to crack and crumble bit by bit.

A skeleton of a man was soon apparent within the now broken helmet. It had black bones that looked like if they were burnt in the depths of hell.

A semblance of skin was on some of its bones.

"Is that truly Daiki?!" said Haruka who looked to be shocked.

"It seems that the Divine had known this had happened. Beasts of great might are invading my territory… they are coming here." Said Solomon who had a stoic expression.

"Shit. He looks dead…" said Haru as he approached the barely standing corps.

The skeleton's eyes then shone in an eerie green light as if revived its first words were.

"Ah… I am back" spoke the corps as it held its right hand up. It looked dehydrated as skin was stuck to bones

It then turned, with a voice akin to a predator gazing upon its prey

"It seems that you are all here… you look… young, how much time had passed?" said the talking corpse.

"Is that really you Daiki?" said Haruka as she approached, a bit of apprehension on her face.

"It is I," he said, and relief washed all over everyone.

Yet before anyone would even say anything the corps disappeared.

They soon heard the voice of a gurgling woman, and they turned to see Daiki holding the Archangel with one hand pressed on her neck.

"Shara…" he said as he looked into her eyes. "I have many things to say regarding your betrayal to me in that place." He said.

She couldn't speak, but her defiant eyes said everything.

It was needed she said with her eyes.

But his eyes could only say one thing. Revenge.

"Herald." Spoke the King

"There is no time for this, you must recuperate, there is a huge army charging this way, they want your and my life." He said

"I know, I can sense them."

He said that as if it was the most normal thing in the world.

To sense an enemy hundreds of miles away, even Solomon cannot do that without several hundreds of magic layers that were placed upon his domain.

This is not the same man that was imprisoned two years ago.

"How much time had you spent in that place Herald?" asked the king as he walked down the long stairs.

"A hundred years a thousand, maybe more who knows…" he then dropped the woman who looked a step closer to death.

She coughed and struggled to gain her bearings, not even the Archdevil was able to subdue her at that time.

"You grew strong Daiki…" said the archdevil who's careless nature changed to that of a more serious tone, this man who looked like he didn't give a damn about anything was now looking nervous.

"Indeed, Beel, it seems that you have kept your word." Said Daiki.

"So, what will we do about those guys that are trying to invade this place?" asked Haru.

"I should go greet them," said the Herald

"No!" Shouted Haruka "You just got back, and now you are going to fight, let us go; we can handle them." She said

The Herald turned, and a smirk was apparent under his broken helmet as he said

"You grew some spine I see, and you grew strong… all three of you level 999… you seem to have stagnated, however…the limit of a human body is too bothersome…" he said

"Now what can I do with this shriveled up body, it is not regaining its former shape… I can't feel my mana or stamina… my health is stuck at one… it seems that I will die if I got sneezed on… so pitiful…" said the Herald.

"You," he said addressing the blood priestess.

"You are no longer the liability that you were. I am pleased." He said

The person named Misaka bowed her head saying.

"Thank you for everything Daiki…"

He then smirked and turned around to his former friend.

"You became stronger, now your skill and level are compatible. Very good" he said

Haru became flustered at the words. And bowed his head giving his thanks too.

"I need a weapon, Haruka gives me that blade for a moment." He said, "I can't use my mana it seems that the sealed state needs to be overwritten." He said

"Sealed state?" asked Haru.

"Yes, it is one of the abilities of that spell, it removes the user from his abilities, he cannot use them even after being released… however, you are a special case, Herald…"

"Indeed" replied the herald with a smirk that cracked his skin.

Once the girl handed him the sword, he turned it around, and without a shred of hesitation, he pierced his heart.

"Ah… this is it… this feeling… how long had I waited… Death…" he said as he crumbled into dust while his armor was all that remained.

Haruka's face grew paler as she saw what just happened

Yet before she could say anything…
