Waking up, the first thing Marvin's eyes saw was the starry sky. Not knowing at what time he fell asleep, Marvin was feeling distraught; while the novelty of transmigrating to a new place was present at first, the experience of being so close to dying and doing his best to be calm in the midst of danger was nerve-wracking.
Marvin knew that he was in a dangerous place and that death might await him at any tree he passes. Comforting himself in the fact that he never saw any beasts near the beach, he assumed that he would not have any encounter with any beasts on these white sand grains and that the beach could be considered his "firelink shrine".
Remembering that he cried himself to sleep, Marvin laughed at the fact that even he, with all his courage, acted like a scared little boy when in front of something frightening. Standing up, he stretched while breathing the pure air surrounding him; at least, he thought I am alive and will do my best to stay so. Looking at the sky, the moons were shining in a pale silver moonlight that bathes the surroundings in a gentle glow; he started walking on the beach while admiring the lake and the forest.
It was the first time that he left his refuge in the night so he was quite cautious since coming from the forest, roars of different kinds of beasts were heard, the forest was more alive at night it seemed as he did not feel as much activity in it while the sun was out. After some time, he went back to his refuge and began to plan what to do the next day.
First he had to find a way to get food without putting himself in great danger, he guessed that he will have a vegetarian diet for a while since apparently, most animals he had seen were dangerous; second he has to built a better place to live, the stone structure is fine for now but it does not provide any protection against the elements or enemies that attack, and finally get stronger; he fell in a merciless place that does not give the slice chance of survival for faint of heart and cowards.
He assumes that while he was lucky to survive his encounter with the snake and the giant beetle he might not always be; so he has to get stronger to be able to envisage surviving and further along the line leaving this forest and explore this new world and seek any civilizations that might exist on this planet.
Having done his planning, Marvin started to think about his parents that surely are grieving the loss of their son back on Earth, he imagines that they buried an empty casket and hopes that at his wake most of his friends and family were there accompanying his parents in their loss.
It was kind of messed up that everyone might assume that he passed away while he is in a dangerous situation with no one to help him. No parents should have to bury their child so he knelt down and prayed that his parents stayed safe and that the Lord gives him and them the strength to surpass this difficult period in their life.
He did not know how he managed to get on this planet but he will try his best to get back to Earth no matter how long it would take for him to figure out how. This new goal amped him so much that he started to sharpen a branch he found in the forest with his stone knife and shaped it into a spear.
Looking at the finished product, he was disappointed that the spear looked worse than he hoped; it looked flimsy so he tossed it away, took another branch and started again. This time the result was better but still, he removed too much wood and the spear was too light when he swung it around and he imagined that it might break if it connected with something hard.
Why was he making wooden spears you might ask? Simply because after his encounter with the snake and the giant beetle he at least learned one thing, that is to put as much distance between him and what might try to hurt him, since with some distance he has some error margin in any actions he makes contrary to a close quarter fight just like with the snake. So after a few tries and a few trips at the border of the forest to get more fallen branches, he finally got a wooden spear that was kind of perfect "according to him".
It was one and a half meter tall, incredibly rigid, somewhat well balanced with a good sharp spearhead. Since he realized that a wooden spearhead might not kill or injure anything in this forest, he cut some stones to the right dimensions and until they were sharp enough to make him bleed easily, placed one atop the wooden spear and tied it with a torn part of his shorts. He admired his work before cutting away some wood from the failed spears to manufacture them in arrows since as always distance is better.
The sun was rising when he was done with his work, a night work rewarded him with thirty usable arrows. He was tired, to think that he has shown some promise to become a carpenter, he laughed so hard that the pain coming from his hands from making the spear and arrows became negligible. Looking at the rising sun signifying a new day, he decided that this rising sun will represent his new beginning in this new world.
He stood up, went back into the forest in the search of food as his stomach was grumbling. He profited off the moment to look for more dry fallen branches to use in any contraption he might make. While gathering the fruits he was familiar with, he did not forget to be cautious of his surroundings and when his hands were full he went back to his refuge to eat his breakfast. His hunger satisfied, he applied himself to the making of an ax, hammer, and chisel; shaping the stones to his needs and sharpening them was more difficult than imagined but with the experience of making the stone knife not much time was spent on that end.
Walking near a stream in the forest not too far from the beach in the afternoon, he was cutting some vines to make a basket so that he won't have to always make multiple trips when he needed food when he noticed mudrock, that meant clay was not far. He wanted to make a house and clay would be a necessary resource to use unfortunately that will be a long project so he took his time to look around for everything he would need at some point in time.
For the next few days he could say that he acclimated himself with life in the jungle as he made a schedule that he followed to the letter; maybe it was thanks to it that no dangerous situations occurred during that time. First thing in the morning he would weight-lift some rocks, jog, do some push-ups, sit-ups, then gather some fruits for his breakfast, before starting his artisan life, and in the evening he would swing his spear around, flick it and thrust it to know how he should fight with it at least, before eating some more fruits and going to sleep; that was how his days were.
The first thing he made was a hut not far from his refuge, a few more spears, and arrows but no bow yet; even he did not know how to make one furthermore a good piece of wood is necessary to craft one. So after building a furnace with the clay, it was now time to make his house.
He realized how daunting the task was when he undertook it; he had to dig pit holes for the tree branches that will act as support for the roof and the whole structure, make cords with fallen branches from a willow look-alike tree, make a wooden mould with the help of his chisel for the mud bricks.
After the bricks were sun-dried, he piled them up following a square shape as base. After two days of hard work, his efforts were finally rewarded with a nice looking house at the border of the woods. Since his living place was empty, he made some base furniture like a small table and a chair made of woven vines. Having dealt with all that he could focus now on making a bow and spend more time training with the spear so that he could hunt.
Strangely, one morning he noticed that his biological clock was not messed up from travelling to another world. He could assume that the time difference in this world was not great but more or less the same; he was glad that at least one constant of life did not change that and took it as great news.
