Chapter 10 - The Base [Naomi]

I was right. I didn't want to be right, but I was right. It took us 1 hour and 25 minutes to get to the city. Add another 10 because the guards had to wait for Chasan to confirm we were allowed to leave. Apparently, we have to go through a full month before we're allowed to leave without permission from Chasan. "Well, I'm hungry, who wants to get something to eat before we get to our final destination?" I turned around, and put my hands behind my head. Scorpio and Bill looked at me with concern. "What? I mean, we can eat. It's not like we're on our way to save the world or anything. And we all have money, Chasan gave us all some this morning, surely we can use it to pay for food."

"Yeah, but," Scorpio started. "Don't vampires drink blood?" Bill finished. I turned back around, "Yeah, but we don't need to. It is the thing that gives us the most energy, but overall, we don't have to. I really don't like to, it's always a pain in the ass to deal with the bodies after to make sure they don't come back as a zombie or vampire. Hell, that was how I was turned." I slapped the road sign saying 'Eaststeel, New York. Population: 60,500', and turned to face them, "It's quite the tale really, but I'll tell you when we find somewhere to eat, 'cause I'm starving." Bill nodded in agreement, and Scorpio reluctantly nodded, "We probably should go to a fast food place. I mean, as much as I love regular restaurants, we're going to get this done tonight." Bill nodded, "Agreed. And hey, compared to what I'm used to, eating from inside the restaurant would be nice for once."

"Fine. I was hoping to go to that cafe downtown, but we can go there."

We stopped at a McDonald's. Damn, I gotta say blood is great and all, but McNuggets can really do it. "So, you told us you were going to tell us how you got turned into a vampire?" I took a handful of fries, "Oh! Right! Well, it was a pretty nice day, around two years ago. I was in my living room, doing whatever a 14 year old does when they're home alone, when suddenly a guy in all black burst through the window. At first I was like, 'Oh shit! It's the Black Hoops!', so I went upstairs and grabbed my dad's shotgun, and shot him. He stepped back, but then ran at me, and grabbed me, and not in a family friendly PG kind of way." I shuddered, "He then bit my neck. I remember having two thoughts after that, 'Oh shit! This guy is a sex offender!' and 'Why do I suddenly feel like taking a long nap?'He set me down on the floor, looked at me, and I passed out." I took a drink, and opened the Happy Meal toy, "Damn, I got this last time I was here." Bill was tapping his finger on the table, "Anyway."

"Right! Well, I woke up in my bed a few minutes later, and this guy was standing there. Of course, I was startled and tried attacking him. Of course, he was a vampire, and easily deflected everything. It wasn't really a fight, more of a 'I flail around while he occasionally moves'. Eventually, I calmed down, and when I did, he informed me I was now a vampire, and his name was Alucard. After that he jumped out of the window and I never saw him again." Scorpio looked at me like she'd seen a ghost. "What? I mean, yeah it's a boring backstory, but it's still a-"

"Not that. Have you ever really thought about his name?" I shook my head. "Try spelling Alucard backward." A-l-u-c-a-r-d. D-r-a-c-u-l-a. "Ohhhh, so you're saying the person that did that was Dracula?" Bill shook his head, "Can't be. He died in the 14 hundreds."

"Well, vampires are pretty durable, right Naomi?" I nodded. "So, maybe he survived."

"Doubtful. I mean, I'd love to see the guy, exchange a few blows, but his body is confirmed as dead. And his soul, if that's a thing, is probably being tormented in Hell." Scorpio shrugged, "Just a thought. Maybe he was just trying to be edgy and cool, I don't know." I pulled out my phone, "Shit! It's 7! We gotta eat." I grabbed the small handful of fries left in my box, threw the it across the room into the trash, and ran toward the door.

We were in the 'ghetto' of Eaststeel. I knew this place like the back of my hand, I was raised here. "So, Bill, where's that place we were gonna hit again?" He pointed to a small warehouse that looked like it was set on fire a few years ago. "Are you sure, for a crime syndicate as large as them, you'd think they'd have a better base."

"That's just one, remember? There's no way that's the main base. Even so, I wouldn't be stupid enough to hit there, that would be suicide." Scorpio nodded, "So are we gonna rush them or?"

I looked closely at the building, "I think we can rush them."
