"The Lambent of vale" Raz began "popularly known as the Extractor, is a direct process. Our bodies are like a vessel that can store the glow from the sun and this process is known as extracting. The act of using this extracted power within us is known as glowing. Although we have speed as a common power, we differ in some ways. For instance, a full grown Candanian can extract the solar energy and use it to heal the most severe illness or injury. That's why the emergency wards in most hospitals have openings in some part." He paused for a while as if thinking what next to say
"The Zappers, those from the Red linage like me, can also extract and glow which in turn makes us fast. When I mean fast I mean like the speed of light. That's why we are the fastest in history." Raz said proudly.
"Blah, Jeff broke that record twelve months ago" Matt said and watched as Raz looked at Jeff and smiled.
"Would you mind to show me how you won that race by racing me after this?" Raz asked.
"Maybe some other time, please continue with the story, my bed calls." Jeff frowned.
"Okay, as it pleases my lords" Raz said, faking a smile.
"The Amanian which are those from the silver linage, also have speed like other extractors, but they can neither extract nor glow. They can only transform naturally by simply touching this..." Raz pulled off his black glove and embedded gracefully on his left palm, in red color, was the shaped of a bow.
Matt gasped and nearly shouted. He had seen that bow before; it was the bow in that envelope he found on his door step. He hadn't told anyone about it, not even his best friend Jeff.
"What's that?" Matt asked
"Haven't you been paying attention to the history teacher?" Raz asked with a little smile on his lips.
"Well, this mark is a birth mark. There are many stories behind its origin, but I won't dive into that now. One thing is sure; every citizen in Anadan got this mark when lord Tyrust defeated the darkness with the slate of vale. It's unfortunate the grays don't have it." Raz raked his dark hair with his right hand, trying so hard to force down the amusement on his face.
"It's not a bad thing, I used to beat myself on the matter that I can't glow or extract, but now I know the Grays are more powerful, because a solder would need food after a battle. Isn't that true Matt?" Jeff asked with a mischievous smile.
"Sure." Matt exclaimed and high fived with Jeff, they were only doing that to anger the older boy who stared at them and continued as though nothing had happened.
"The Amanian's also are rare and less human, especially when they transform, unlike the rest of us, they can't absorb the sun's energy. They could only be controlled by a Gold and rumor also says that they live mutually with the Gold; neither the Gold nor the silver can survive without the other. That's why they are the king's personal guards. History has it that they were created by lord Tyrust himself, when he felt he could trust no one." Raz leaned on the dusty window sill with part of his weight, he was sure the window would crush if he added all his weight.
"And there is another linage that can't glow or extract, they spend their days in the farm playing with the mud and dirt..." Raz paused and laughed as he got angry glares from the other two boys standing behind him.
"Idiot, you are referring to the Gray." Matt jokingly cursed as he stood beside Raz. The sun had hidden in the other part of the world, but its radiance was quietly pulsing away and the room was becoming dark.
Jeff smiled "What about the Gold" he asked.
Raz shook his head "I don't know much about them, but the little I know is that they are semi mortals. They could get sick and die or live to old age, but apart from that, they can't be killed.
"Wow that's why they are the greatest, have you seen a Gold extract before?" Jeff asked
"No I haven't, except for the King, I haven't seen a gold. Once my father told me it's a very great honor to adore the beauty of a Gold. They attend different schools, eat differently and are totally isolated from the rest of us. They are all treated as kings and queens even while still in the womb." Raz exhaled "That would be all for today, see you guys next week." he finished, bade the two boys a goodbye and walked out of the small room.
Jeff stretched himself and followed Matt out of the room into the cold night. The house they now use for training; was an abandon farmstead they had found in the wood some months back. It was near to the Grays' dormitories, but deep in the forest hidden perfectly in a cave of grasses.
"Who are you going to the grad party with?" Matt asked as they covered the route of the farmstead with grasses.
"I haven't given it much of a thought and besides the grad party is three days away."
"I wish it could be right now Jeff. You need to see the way Ema jumped in delight when I asked her to be my date?" Matt laughed
"You did? I can't believe it Matt" Jeff jerked his elbow into Matt's rib cage "Now I think you should find a way to keep your shaggy hair smooth and sleek. How did you kill the phobia?" Jeff asked jokingly with a little spark of jealousy.
"Don't be jealous Jeff, she is falling for the blue eyes and not the hair" Matt said trying to smoothen his blonde hair with his hands "I just walked up to her" Matt demonstrates "like the prince did to Cinderella, and said it."
Jeff froze and stared at Matt intently. They were out of the woods and now in front of the back gate, where they would sneak back in to their bed.
"Jeff, what is it, aren't you happy for me?" Matt whispered but Jeff didn't move until Matt shook his shoulders. "Welcome back to the land of the living." Matt exhaled as he watched Jeff wrap his hands around himself as if suddenly cold.
"Are you alright?" Matt asked him with a concern and confuse looks "Am sorry for bringing Ema up as a topic, I never meant to offend you, I was just thinking you would be happy and if -" Jeff cut in.
"Matt. I am okay I guess. This might sound funny but I think Ema is in trouble"
"Ema...in trouble...How can you tell?"
"Because I just heard her voice crying in my head for help"
Jeff pushed a button on his phone not looking at Matt; he waited for a while and then frowned. "Am trying to call her but she is not picking up."
"Let's get our H-board and pay them a visit." Matt said and took the lead.
"Them? What do you mean them?" Jeff sprinted after him. He was happy Matt hadn't asked any questions. He himself couldn't tell what had happened that minute. He had heard Ema's voice crying for help, the words had been so clear that Jeff thought his head would explode. Well, whatever it is, Jeff hoped his friend was okay.
