Chapter 21 - Just One!

Chapter 21

"Impossible, mother, you know that the slimes protect the grass with their very lives. Yet, they are still alive, so the Soul-Refining Grass must be here somewhere." Evelynn reassured her pale mother.

But after a few minutes of searching, the blood drained out of both women's faces.

"… It can't be. All of them are gone?" Evelynn dropped down to the ground in despair.

Those herbs had the unique ability to heal a fatal soul injury. The soul solution was only a medium to accelerate the restorative power of the soul. Without the Soul-Refining Grass, then- then…

"AHH! Oh, my poor Soul-Refining Grasses. Oh, my aching heart! Those had been growing for over ten-thousand years!" The old woman crooned on the floor, moaning in agony.

As the two despaired about the mysterious disappearance of the grasses, the slimes had gone to work inspecting their god.

"Chik?" The slimes were worried that something was wrong with the god. After all, the comatose Wuji had not moved ever since he fell out of the sky.

"KIK! KUK!" A slime shouted, volunteering to do the 「 Liquefy Spirit Pact 」.

Strange sounds similar to gasps could be heard as the slimes quickly became silent and huddled together.

The 「 Liquefy Spirit Pact 」was a banned slime sacred art only known to Spirit Slimes.

It was said that the creation of the sacred art brought about the Goddess of Purity's wrath, who sealed away the Spirit Slimes from the outside realm.

Some of the older slimes shuddered in fear.

The slime that suggested the idea anxiously tried to argue with the other slimes for support. Many of them shook their heads in disapproval.

The largest surviving slime looked at the dismayed slime and then back at their unconscious god. It became tense as it sighed. The large slime nodded to the others.

"Kuk?!"

They were really going to do it?

"Kuk. Chik. Chik-chik." The large slime motioned at Wuji.

They had to help their savior. No matter the consequences.

The other slimes stared at their paling god, fires lighting up in their eyes.

"CHIIK!" They shouted in unison.

For their god, they would break the ancestral vow!

If Wuji knew what was about to happen right now, he would have killed all of the slimes beforehand.

. . .

The slimes quickly began preparing. Two of them went to Wuji's side, opening his mouth. Another two opened Wuji's nostrils. The final two opened Wuji's ears. Fortunately for Wuji, these were all the openings that the slimes could see… if they had found his sacred zone then he would never be able to show his face again.

A group of slimes began to rotate around Wuji, jiggling as their bodies began to light up. A runic circle with intricate incantations appeared over his body.

The largest slime looked at the others, nodding in determination.

"Chik!" The other slimes saluted.

The largest slime took a deep breath. It jumped onto the runic circle.

"Liquefy Spirit Pact!"

Immediately, the slime's body, which had looked like a corporeal jelly, became a fluid substance, flowing into Wuji's five holes—Into his mouth, nostrils, and ears.

Wuji moaned in pain as he choked on the slime.

"Chieeek!" The slime was having difficulty entering with the god's resistance.

The other slimes noticed and amassed more magical energy.

PUSH!

Eee!

PUSH!

. . .

Ploop.

The slime finally entered Wuji's spiritual space. Its mouth gaped wide open.

"Kuuuuk!"

The slime stared at the galaxy-size spirit in front of it.

Indeed, their god was a god!

Suddenly, the colossal spirit made a crackling sound, like that of static. Its edges seemed to be slowly crumbling away.

The slime paled as it realized that the situation was for the worse. Their god's spirit was terribly injured. They had to heal the god right away!

Immediately getting out of Wuji's body, the slime became a corporeal figure once more, forming again in front of the other slimes. Except, this time, it had lost almost 95% of its body mass.

It looked like a baby slime.

"Chhiik!" The tiny slime explained the situation to the other slimes, who had green faces of envy. They wanted to go into the god's body too! … Perhaps another day the god would let them.

Wuji shuddered unconsciously.

"Chiik!" One of the slimes recommended that they use the Soul-Refining grass that Wuji had collected.

But another slime argued that it was the god's property and that they had no right to touch it.

"ChiiK!" We can't!

"Kuk!" We have to! You're killing our god!

The slimes screamed and yelled at each other. It almost led to a falling out until the old lady and Evelynn noticed their strange activities.

"You slimes, you know where the Soul-Refining Grass is, don't you?!" The old woman interrogated them, her eyes bloodshot.

She didn't mind using some for Wuji. She didn't even mind losing one or two. But all of them? Not even a single seed to start a new generation?! No! She would never accept it!

"Kiik!" The slimes panicked. They immediately agreed that they should use the grass before the hag tried to steal it from their god.

After all, they'd rather it be used for the god than the woman with a foot already in the grave.

When the slimes pulled out the grass, which began shrieking, the old woman's eyes twinkled with greed.

"Yes, that's good, now give it to me-"

Her eyes widened and became red as she saw the slimes stuff the screaming grass into Wuji's mouth whole.

"AHHH!"

"Mother, don't yell! They gave it to Wuji!"

"NO! I needed at least one to repopulate. JUST ONE!"

Little did the old woman know that Wuji had hundreds more in his Spirit Pouch . . .
