Chapter 21 - The Fateful mission

The small army was made up largely of demonic beasts, most of which were wolves. The demonic power which the wolves possessed had deformed his body, making them stronger since some of his bones could not bear their power, and it seemingly pierced through his skin, concluding this that was my hypothesis after seeing them for the second time; in addition to the demonic wolves, there were also bears in which their bones could not be seen but only their coat which was a crimson color which was reflected nicely by the slight glow in which radiated from the demonic nest. The crimson coat was a reminder to Rhig that if he was to fall to the bear he was not the first, but if he didn't take down these beasts it would only add to their increasing body count. While contemplating the situation beforehand a faint dark fog filtered through Rhig's orfices.

If this view had presented itself 20 years ago, the situation which presented itself before him right now would be completely ironic due to the circumstances. Since he was nothing but a mere human with no abilities or capabilities; I probably would not be able to move from fear and would try to run away while screaming for help, but things have changed. In this new life, I am a Berserker, my personality and emotions have changed enormously without me noticing it; I am no longer the same person who I was in my past life, and this is the first time in which I have completely been able to finally accept it.

Slowly I stood guard as I advanced against the small army which stood before me; analyzing the situation before me I was able to make out 20 or more wolves which stood before me, and a dozen bears. I could not see beyond them because a curtain of darkness hid the rest of the way, it seems that this demonic nest was several times larger and this was only the beginning to a great battle which stood before me.

The wolves didn't waste any time, they stretched out trying to surround me, while the bears charged towards me to keep me busy so that I couldn't escape from their tactics, without wasting any second longer I unleashed all the Blood Qi in my body, illuminating me with a soft glow of crimson light, although I didn't have a spear, the claymore was a lot more comfortable especially when I faced a large enough crowd, its edge was sharper, and the weight of the claymore helped increase the impulse, which made it very difficult to block.

Sadly the claymore produced a great disadvantage for me and that was its weight, it required a lot of resistance in each cut, its mobility makes it even worse especially in enclosed spaces, it is next to impossible to use. As the Demons' nest did not produce any of these hindrances I personally had no problem to fight off these beasts.

I introduced as much Blood Qi as I could muster into the claymore, while before I try making a wide cut, I had to stop the bears first, the wolves could not cause me serious injuries, just as the claymore was going to split the bears in half, the bears behind them pushed the front row towards death, as if they were using each other as a shield to throw themselves towards me.

I smiled, this was the true nature of the demons, to attack at all costs, in fact, there were some shared similarities between the Demons and the Berserkers, both preferred to sacrifice a part of their strength to ensure a hit on their enemy regardless of the loss or sacrifice.

It was a pity that this strategy didn't work against a Berserker, when the first row of 5 bears crossed with the claymore they were split in half almost immediately, and the claymore didn't lose any of its momentum, the Blood Qi acted as its cutting-edge, plus the bears weren't a direct rival to me, they could threaten me with numbers but they would need hundreds of them before they actually became a threat to me.

With the blood of the first five bears, I used it as a catalyst, to perform the spell I learned from Rin, the more times I used it the quicker I got used to its shape. Taking less time drawing out the spell.

When I nailed the claymore to the ground, a wall of lances emerged in front of me shining in crimson light, the remaining bears were impaled by their own impulse and the sharpness of the lances, the blood from the bears was automatically circulated through the lances towards the claymore, the blood did not have too much purity but it always helped to recover some resistance.

Meanwhile, the wolves didn't stop their strategy, they were already running towards my back, I didn't have time to make a cut with the claymore, but I concentrated the Blood Qi in my back, and I clenched my teeth waiting for the incoming pain ...

"Ah, haven't your attacks impacted me? I said out loud in surprise, I was expecting a fierce attack from the back, but I couldn't feel anything.

When I turned to see what had happened, I saw five wolves on the ground with several severe wide cuts on their bodies, none of them had been able to get up since they were already dead, at that moment is when I realized that I had become absurdly strong for such simple demonic animals, Yeah, sure it was possible for the bears to be able to hurt me, but only because of their strength and momentum, but the wolves, on the other hand, had no way in the slightest to hurt me.

I smiled, Berserkers are masters in the art of war, a warrior in the same stage of cultivation as him would not even be able to harm him as well, meanwhile I returned my focus into balancing the claymore which was leaving flashes of Blood Qi everywhere in its wake that killed every wolf that stood before me, but in the end there was simply way too many of them, it would take me a while to finish them; their forces were insignificant in power but their speed was not to be taken lightly.

After 10 minutes of fighting with these beasts, I was able to kill all the beasts that stood in my wake, it was quite easy, but still I couldn't let down my guard for there have to be formidable demons further inside, otherwise, the mission wouldn't be classified as 5-Star Mortal Knight.

Slowly I walked towards the veil of darkness that stood before me promising upcoming dangers, I didn't know whether I was able to tear it with my own hands, so I threw a wolf corpse towards the wall of darkness, but to my surprise it acted like a stone wall, and the corpse remained the same as before, but the wall showed no way of letting in at all.

"It seems to be a simple wall..." I whispered as I wielded the claymore and threw a blow from above with all my strength, the sword went through the wall of darkness as if it were a hot knife cutting butter and then came across some resistance, staying stuck into something strange.

The darkness began dissipating through the cut that was pierced through by the claymore, and I could see what had stood in the way of the claymore, a demon like the ones that I had killed in the previous demonic nest had been cut to his waist by the claymore, surely the poor demon had some bad luck, to be killed by a random sword cut ...

But when I looked up, I quickly took the claymore out of the demon's body, this room was much larger and there were about a hundred demons in which stood before me, and a dark fog darkened my vision, but it could not hide the red eyes of each of the demons looking at me, a shiver went up my spine, and I started pumping Blood Qi madly, the difficulty of this demon nest had increased exponentially besides there were demons with strange constitutions that I had never seen, so I had to walk around the nest on high alert, otherwise I could be killed without being fully aware of the situation.

The blood of the demon that had been cut by the claymore was flowing towards me through the air, I had never seen such magnetism, just then the blood started pouring through the pores of my skin causing me great distress, my body was charging with more energy than I could bear, I needed to find a solution and fast before the power flowing into me destroyed my body.

One solution was to compress the Blood Qi flowing into me, but my body would not be able to withstand it, the other option was to expel it in large quantities producing lances, but this way would not prove as effective as it did with the bears and wolves; this was because these demons had a very high defense rating, my claymore with all my forces had only penetrated one meter, so the lances would logically only slightly damage the demons, but at the same time it would be able to break through them, since they would have to defend themselves leaving them vulnerable for a period of time, but to use the Blood Qi in this way would exhaust it quickly, but in the end this was what I needed most.

I gathered all the Blood Qi that I had around my feet, trying to make the drawing of the magic construction, I could expunge the remaining Blood Qi there, the spears could not penetrate the defense of the demons, but at least I could hinder them so that they did not arrive all at once, and instead I would be able to handle them in small groups.

While I emptied the Blood Qi in the construction the demons advanced before me, they did not follow any formation they were simply attacking towards me, their red eyes denoted their hostility, when the spears began to penetrate through the ground they were already 10 meters away from me, some were more dispersed in this room and it just delayed them for a bit giving them a harder time to show up.

When the first spear hit the demon, a small cut in its abdomen appeared, but moments later it split before it could continue through it, I was stunned, because the spears broke with the impulse of the demons and could not slow them down at all...
