Chapter 1 - Shade, The Warlock - 1

I wake up with a jump, surprised and feeling my wrists a bit sore. I look around in a panic, recognizing the room that I am. This… isn't my room… a stone cell, dark and damp, with a cage door, the faint orange trembling light is probably from a torch, shining through the lightly rusted bars.

So that wasn't a dream after all… that god was real, and I am in another world… that also means that I died back in earth due a hearth attack. Not that I am surprised, since I was born, I had several health issues, with the most worrying being my hearth. I was doomed to die at any moment, it was impressive that I lasted until my twenties.

I was always at home due being sick and frail, so I didn't have many friends. My personal nurse, however, Miss Sleigh, was a fan of dungeons and dragons, and we often played and wrote about the subject. We even played online with her friends several times while I was alive. And surprisingly enough, that was the reason why I was reincarnated by the mad god that I met.

He recreated Shade, my most overpowered character of D&D, a warlock, adapting his powers to the world that he presides over just for the heck of it, and when I passed, he just took my soul, explained what he did, and gave me a second chance in this world. He threw me, unconscious in front of a bandit lair and that was it. he left me for my own luck.

And now here I am, resting in a cell. They were probably waiting for me to wake up. I look down to my body. Now, I'm dressed in only pants, hemp ones, different from what I imagined the legendary stuff that my character was supposed to wear. The body has pale white skin, to the point of being literally white.

I can see my hair hanging as bangles and running down my shoulders, midnight black and with purple shades. My face is supposed to be devilishly handsome, with a manly look. My body is tall, around 1,80 and has toned muscles, perfectly defined and a lean build. On my back, I know that I have the tattoo of a shadow dragon's head between my shoulder blades, of the size of a hand.

I close my eyes, feeling a strangely energy all around me, strange knowledge filling my head. This is definitely the knowledge of Shade, my warlock. Magic, feeling magic, demons and their types, the summons that are bound to me, as well the weapons from my aspect as hexblade.

Alright, now that I know what I can do in a very supernatural way, I can get out of this place… as for killing someone… I must thank the Mad God for taking that part out of me, that hesitation in killing and regret from it. Not that I will turn into a mad bastard that kills everything that moves… I think. Better think about that later.

But for now, get back my stuff that the god sent me here with, and fuck off from this bandit fortress. I can feel my stuff calling for me, my armor called Body of Darkness, my rings, my weapons, my Book of Shadows and my sword, Bloodriver. Thank god they are indestructible and only I can use them, making them useless for the bandit leader.

Now, to get rid of these cuffs chaining me to the wall. Quite simple, really. I just hold the chains and pull them, they snap with a loud sound, my physical strength far surpassing what they are able to hold.

I grab the cuffs, twisting and breaking them out of my wrists. Neat, I never imagined that I would have this kind of physical strength! I get close to the door. Well, I don't want to power through everything with physical strength, I should try some magic!

I focus, casting blink. After a brief feeling of familiar movement from this body, I simply appear outside of my cell. I look to my left, the corridor of dark stones lit with torches, creating a dim environment. To my right, it's a dead end, and the exit to my left. I need to know what's around me, but my vision is limited in this corridor.

Time to try some other stuff. I close my eyes, touching my face with my hand, focusing and using one of my eldritch invocations, Ghostly Gaze. It immediately gives me darkvision, meaning that I can see in the dark up to 36 meters. not only that, I can now see through objects as well walls.

I look again to my left, seeing the walls slowly turning transparent when I focus on them, revealing empty cells, and at the end of the corridor, on both sides, two guards are playing a game of cards. I approach silently, entering the range where I can hear them talking.

- What you think that sound was about? – one of the asked, clearly about me breaking my chains.

- The guy that we brought in earlier must've woken up.

- Do we take him to the leader now? – the other one asked, scratching his head as he looks to the cards.

- After we're done with this game. – He said, putting a card in the table.

- Ugh, fuck you. – The other one responded, frustrated by his mate's play, making the other laugh.

Shame that I'll cut that fun short. I get out of the corridor, pointing my hand towards them. One of them notices me, with the other with his back facing me. Before he can even react, I utter the name of my cantrip.

- Eldritch Blast. – Twin beams of crackling energy fly out of my palm, popping the two heads easily, spattering their brains and blood all over the cards that they were playing seconds ago. As expected, I feel nothing by killing someone. Alright, time to get my stuff back.

I can feel their presence from here, so I can get there even if I don't know around the fortress. I don't want to cause a commotion yet, since I'm without my stuff. Well, I can cast Armor of Agathys, but I don't feel like it. I also can summon some weapons, but Bloodriver wouldn't like it that much.

In our campaign, she always got salty when I summoned another weapon that wasn't her and would sulk for a while. I also can't dispel and summon her again, she hates being dispelled. And having an unwilling weapon in hands isn't exactly ideal. Well, I can cast invisibility on myself, so I'll go with that.

After muttering the chant, my body turns invisible. I don't have to pay components, thankfully enough, since I have a homebrew feat that allows me to cast any magic below 5th level without using any components, which is very useful in a campaign that goes until level 200, where casting spells is like breathing.

Alright, time to get back my stuff.

(Bandit leader's POV)

I look at the items atop my desk. A marvelous set of black armor, magic clothes and a sword that is definitely enchanted with something powerful. As a mage, formerly part of the royal army, I know quite a bit about magic, to the point that I can cast spells of third level. Because of that I'm quite strong, to the point that I came to lead these bandits.

I have my own magical items, but this et of armor and weapon are beyond anything that I've ever seen. I don't think even the king has access to something this powerful. I pick the sword for the nth time, and it slips through my fingers as if they weren't there, falling back in the table with a thump.

Umm… they have some kind of security enchantment, but I can't make it out at all. I can't even sense it, I just know they have it. I even tried to put on the magical clothes, but it's not that they wouldn't fit, I just wasn't able to put them at all. My legs didn't go through the pants and my arms didn't manage to go in the shirt.

It's a strong enchantment, I need to torture the guy that we captured. I wonder if he has already woken up. We didn't manage to wake him, so I just have to wait. Satisfied, I make some notes in my spellbook, so that I can remember everything that I have learned from this. I am interrupted, though when I hear the hinges of my door opening.

I turn around, my hand instinctively going to my staff as I turn around. There, I see the prisoner! However, I can kill him from distance! Even if he knows magic, he cannot use it if he doesn't have a vessel! And his sword is here, with me! I point my staff to him, muttering a chant for magic missile.

However, before I can finish my spell, he points his finger at me, saying:

- Toll The Dead. – I frown, not interrupting my spell at all. What nonsense is he spout-

My train of thought stops as the sound of bells sound loudly in my head, deafening and breaking my concentration. I panic, looking around, fear creeping in my heart. A sudden pain assaults my body, and I look down to my hand.

It's… it's rotting! What the fuck! My hands start to rot down to the bone, the same turning to dust soon after, the only feeling left in my body is pain as I rot away quickly, and my last though is how he used magic without a staff.

(Shade's POV)

Oh my, Toll The Dead is very effective! It's one of my cantrips, one of the several. It deals necrotic damage if the target doesn't manage to save against it, but I guess here it's resisting it or not. Well, he clearly didn't, as the old man is a pile of ash and robes. That was easy.

I approach the table after closing the door, looking at my equipment. I see he was trying to use everything. Bloodriver, Body of Darkness, my Book of Shadows and my enhanced bag of holding, as well my magical clothes that are resistant as a steel armor and forever clean.

The first one that I touch is Bloodriver, a feeling of satisfaction and love gushing from the sword. I smile, caressing the blade gently.

- Don't worry, I'm here. – She answered with a reassured feeling. I just smile, putting her in her sheath that is in the table. I take off the pants that I'm using, putting on my equipment, finally putting Bloodriver on my back.

- Alright, - I say to myself. – time to wreck some shit up.
