Chereads / Where They Rest / Chapter 3 - The Confusion

Chapter 3 - The Confusion

Eventually, the rest of Aby's friends showed up and she introduced me to them all one by one. By the time the last one showed up I had found the group of people that I had liked to talk to.

Ed and his girlfriend, Ema, were fun to talk to but ultimately they liked to stay by themselves. Violet and me never really were apart, so Charlotte came and went through out the night checking up on us, probably making sure I didn't do anything to her sister. Aby spent the whole night right beside me making sure that I felt comfortable around everyone, however; I stayed at the bar most of the time with only Aby and Violet.

Aby pulled me to the side away from everyone. "So what do you think of everyone?"

I looked around the room at everyone and turned back to her. "I think that I like Charlotte, Violet, Ed, and Ema more than everyone else." Aby laughed and looked at them. Surprisingly all four of them were talking together.

"Good, they are my closest friends, so I trust you to be around them alone." Aby looked happy and strange at the same time. It seemed like she was hiding something from me.

"Aby, where are the drinks!" Someone yelled

"Let me go and get some more." she hollered back, "I'll be back soon."

She walked off and I was left standing off to the side between the entrance to the kitchen and the area with the couches. Violet turned to walk towards me but someone walked up and started talking to me.

"Hi, I'm Ian. I wanted to ask you if you knew what was going to happen the sixteenth of this month?" He asked. He had a weird vibe to him and the worst part was that I couldn't really make out what he looked like before Violet interrupted.

"Come on. That's enough, time for you to go." He just started to mumble to himself as he walked away. "Just ignore him, he says weird crap all the time."

"OK?" Music started to play in the room. It was slow music so everyone was getting a partner and dancing with them. Aby still hadn't came out from the kitchen with the drinks so I assumed they did this to pass time while they waited.

"So does this happen often here?" I asked, Violet was looking around the room too.

"No, but," She grabbed my hands and put them on her waist and wrapped her hands around my neck. "When it does a lot of us try and take advantage of it and have some fun. We all don't really get to hangout together like this anymore, so we try to go all out when we can." We started to sway back and fourth but it didn't take to long before Charlotte came over.

"So what are you two doing?"

"What does it look like we're doing. I'm allowed to do what I want." Charlotte pulled Violet to the side. They stood there talking for a while before one of them came back.

"So I was able to talk her into giving me five minutes." Charlotte said

"Five minutes for what?" Charlotte's face turned red as she wrapped her arms around my neck.

"Look I just wanted to talk, but I was also curious about this, nothing else, OK?" I put my hands on her waist. She tightened up but relaxed after a few seconds. "Why are you and Violet hanging out so much?"

"Honestly I don't know. She's just been hanging around me. If I knew I would tell you, but it's really hard to tell why she would."

Charlotte laughed, "You really are something else," She looked up at me. "Just promise me that you'll take care of her if anything happens. She may look grown up but she's like a kid inside." We both looked at each other and stare for a few seconds.

"I promise I'll take care of her.....and you." It feels awkward to say since this isn't some RPG or fantasy world. I said looking away from her. I took a quick look over towards Violet, she was patiently waiting beside the kitchen doors still.

"No, take care of her, not me. I'm not worth protecting." She said. Looks like we're going to follow this fantasy vibe then.

I laughed, "Sorry, I should've been more clear. I'll take care of both of you because honestly, I have to look closely just to check to make sure I'm talking to you or Violet. It's easier to just take care of both of you. Also you are worth protecting." I don't understand why she's doubting her own worth, most girls I've interacted with held themselves as if they were above everyone else.

Charlotte pulled me in closer and hugged me. I didn't quite know how to respond, so I just hugged her back. Hoping I was doing the right thing.

"You're an idiot, you know that?" She whispered

"Yeah, I've been told many times." I said back to her.

She let go and said as she was leaving under her breath, "I guess he is a good guy in the end." I just let her think that no one heard her. She left disappearing into the crowd of people.

Aby and Violet came back together. "So you found the drinks?"

"Yeah, someone miss placed them, so I had to go and find where they had been put. What was that with you and Charlotte you two seemed really friendly. I don't think I've ever seen her go hugging any guy or even one that she just meet." Both Aby and Violet were staring at me. Finally something that I'm used to. I'm going to have to get used to being around new people, or rather just the few that I actually like.

"It's complicated. She asked me to do something but I made a small change to what she wanted me to do." I looked at Violet. Her green eyes glared at me as if I had done something to hurt her.

"Is it to complicated to tell her sister or even let her...." But before she could finish she started to fall forwards. I put my arms out to catch her before she hit the ground, but as soon as she hit my arms, several images shot through my head.

I fell with her and hit the ground too. "Are you OK" I asked kind of fazing in and out.

"Yeah, this happens a lot. I'm use to it now." She said slowly sitting up.

Somewhere in the background I heard someone shouting for an Ambulance. I looked around and Ed, Ema, Charlotte, and Aby had made their way over towards me. Violet still sat in front of me in a daze of sorts. She went to stand and put her hand on my leg to help steady herself. Another series of images flashed through my head. I heard a few more words before I blacked out.

"We'll be there when you wake up. What ever you have seen, tell us then. You're going to play a huge roll in whatever happens from now on, so make your choices wisely." It sounded like Violet but I couldn't tell and I didn't have time to think about it. Everything went black and I was left in the emptiness of my own dreams and the images that were forcefully put in my head.
